BRAD'S TURNING METAL!! 🎵 System of a Down - Chop Suey (First Time Reaction)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 22 май 2021
- This is our first time hearing System of a Down. This Chop Suey is a pretty interesting song. It has layers and seemingly a lot of randomness. It's a catchy tune.

METAL HEADS IN THE MAKING!! Brad and Lex lol
They're polar opposites Lex I can see being a head banging metalhead Brad is too analytical
@@CaddyJim notice the lol. I wasn't being literal.
@@CaddyJim Brad writes the lyrics and Lex the music
@@CaddyJim you never know! There were songs where I heard and i thought were really strange or weird but catch myself singing to it like later in the day and eventually playing it again!
Brad is in the making. Lex IS a Metal Head!! She's the best. Go watch her reactions when lead guitars get going. If you need a pick me up, her reactions always make me smile
Daron said the song is about how people are unfairly judged when they lose their life because of a drug addiction or because of suicide. "I cry when angels deserve to die" is basically saying it makes him sad when good people die because of their unfortunate circumstances. "grab a brush and put a little makeup, hide the scars to fade away the shakeup, whyd you leave the keys up on the table" essentially saying people put on "makeup" and hide their pain to avoid judgement, and that if your going to commit suicide you wont need your keys to get back in the house. For the bridge they actually randomly opened a bible and put their fingers on a paragraph and it was the "father into your hands I commend my spirit" part. Then they played off of that and related it to the overall theme of the song. Really deep song here by system of a down, but most people dont realize it because of how intense the song is.
Always thought it was about the war goin on in their country and how their government has handled it
Nate is right on the facts mentioned by Daron
Yeah looked it up online and realise I was wrong. Fair enough then
Very well said.
These are facts
Watching Lex become a metal head right before our eyes makes me SOOO happy. =)
Agreed...my man hit the jackpot too. She's a keeper...
100%
She is heavenly....man she is so cute to watch....and i love the hair too!
Hell yea.
wait what? she said she didnt even catch the "vibe" of this song ???
Lex is over there vibin the whole time while Brad looks concerned for everyone in the music video XD
Yeah he does.🤣
I'm pretty sure Brad makes this face 😳 in every video that Lex is rocking out to 🤘
😂
🤣🤣🤣
😆
The song was originally called Suicide, but the record label said NO. This is a very deep song on so many levels. PS ... Brad, dude, Lex is a total cutie! You are a lucky man :)
You are right. They named it Chop Suey because of the mixture of everything in the song also the word suicide chopped up.
Yeah she is.
Ha👉 Tragically hip. Locked in the trunk of a car, Was called the Called the Clifford Olson blues! Canadian ser kill DOAH! Songs Awesome
I thought they decided to change the name because 9/11 had just happened. Please correct me if I'm wrong
@@angelaguilar9222 Song came out before 9/11 as Chop Suey
The song was supposed to be called "Suicide" but it wouldn't have made it to single with that name so the band decided to call it "chop suey(cide)"
Edit: they were kind of forced to change the song's name
Oh wow i didn't even know that after all these years 😂
never knew this but makes sense since on the studio version of the song in the beginning you can hear serj saying something like "were rolling on suicide" or something like that.
Yup. What he said
I think they were forced to change it because 9/11 happened like just before the album was due to be released
@@danollerenshaw8410 actually no, the album came out right before 9/11 happened. 5 days before it happened actually. Also, chop suey was a single, so it was released before the full album.
"Everyone loves Chop Suey, that's facts" honestly, iconic 😂🤣☠️
"This makes me want chop suey" 😂😂😂 I barked an involuntary laugh at that whole exchange.
I LOVE the piano at the end. No one ever catches it. This is a masterpiece of a song.
chop suey became the title when the suicide title of the song was censured.
Some versions of the song you can hear them at the beginning say "we are rolling suicide."
u can listen "chop suey" on the self righteous suicide lyric
"Teous Sui" to be More specific
@@kowsky4063 "Suicide" still not the title the record company overlords wanted it to be called... Something more innocuous is better frankly since the song didn't change. And they mocked the title during the video with "eating Chinese food" mid song.
@@mattmarcotte5476 yeah i know that, but what i read was that the "chop suey" was a word game using the words i said before
It's all history. I was married to an Armenian once. There is a deep past history that defines them.
Brad looks like he’s just in a state of shock with every rock song then the look on Lex’s face is just pure enjoyment and I love it
How to listen to metal
1. Listen to the track twice to get the vibe of the music
2. Read lyrics, go back and listen to track whilst reading the lyrics
3. Mosh your face off
I like step 3 the best
Except I don't think this is metal
Or..... Just Enjoy the Vibe. I have a Playlist of over a 500 metal songs. I've never had to look up lyrics, and I listen to Sabaton, and Jinjer some of their songs aren't even completely English.
@@Tbone.357 I disagree, but who really cares? lol. I just think it's funny that metalheads always get so gate-keeper ish about what is and isn't considered metal. Most rockers don't care lol.
@@ninja_tony I've listened to every type of metal that exists, I've been to 50 different death metal shows, but SOAD introduced me into heavy music as a kid in 2001. One time I was talking to a guy about metal and he asked my favorite metal band. I said SOAD and he got upset at me saying they aren't real metal and that I must not actually like metal. I just said okay man and walked away. He apologized 30 minutes later lol. Gatekeeping is so lame
And btw Lex is truly on Goddess level of Groove Fluidity. Just flips from one to the next like a pro. And even better, she’s so open. Nothing weirds her out - perfect reaction skills 🥰
He's a lucky man.
She's such a cutie! ❤️
PLEASE listen to “Toxicity” by System of a Down !!!!
This 100%
And aerials please
also Aerials
@@Grenader3000 yes! Please toxicity and/or ariels.
If Brad liked Chop Suey, and Lex was ok with it - y’all with both will LOVE Toxicity and Ariels
I'm not even a huge SOAD fan, but their tempo changes and harmonies are sick. Nobody really sounds like SOAD.
I love these two. Figuring out how "Chop Suey" figures into Western Culture's "righteous suicide" is endlessly entertaining.
Seriously. I love Brad & Lex.
The whole "why have you forsaken me" thing is about Christ's last words on the Cross. And so the the "self-righteous suicide" is a reference to the Crucifixion in general. Heavy shit.
its really not idk why genius satys that but its not a religious song at all its about suicide, just uses religious imagery to describe the death of a good person (when angels deserve to die being a nod to a good person who does, say.. drugs, and dies, but people may judge them and say something like oh well he did it to himself drug users are bad)
www.loudersound.com/features/system-of-a-down-chop-suey-story-behind-the-song
Not exactly religious bit the underlying message is about the Turkish government genocide of the Armenian Christians. The band is formed of Armenians and they attack government a lot as a result of the atrocities ignored by them.
The only reason those words were put in the song was because Serj was stuck and didn't know where to do with the lyrics and the producer took him to his library and picked a random book on a random page and point his finger and Serj pointed to the word "father into your hands I commend my spirit " and he loved it
@@plusixty8992 what you even talking about? There are bible verses in the song.
@@cius2112 im talking about watch or read any video or article where they explain the song, its not about religion lol
This song may be a little too chaotic for a new listener to catch a vibe, but honestly SOAD is one of the best bands with unique lyrics and hypnotic voices. I would say any of their songs are worth listening to, my personal favorite is Hypnotize but songs like BYOB are 🔥 as well!
This song was one of the ones that turned me onto them. Of course that was when this song was new.
@@Milehighsnake98 Came here to say this. The melodic part was the thing that hypnotized me.
this was the first soad song i EVER heard and im 21 and have been listening to rap my entire life and when i got into rock back in like 8 great it was like pink floyd and zeppelin but on a pretty basic level. I heard it for the first time LAST WEEK and now i cant stop
That intro sucks you right in
I think Brad’s brain melted halfway through. Great seeing you both enjoy it so much.
She's so cute!!
When she's feeling it she gets to bopping and smiling!!
You guys Rock!! Enjoy Your videos!! Keep up that great work and enjoy the music!!
*System of a Down* rabbit hole...
*(Sugar)*
*(Toxicity)*
*(Aerials)*
*(BYOB)*
Toxicity, aerials awesome songs
Bounce too! But honestly you cannot go wrong with anything they have done!
Keep Up With System Of A Down, the lead singer Serj Tankian is one of the best rock vocalist, you will love all there other work!!
Kyo from dir en grey is better.
Mike Patton is god
Serj and Maynard from Tool. The two best at it. Fo Sho!
When I first heard this song on Kerrang I was struck by its complexity, so I listened again and again until my brain got up to speed! I truly believe that S O A D are/were one of the most original and creative bands of the 21st century (so far). I would recommend a deep dive into the album 'toxicity' as in my opinion it is the opus
This song will go from confusion.. to the best song you’ve ever heard in a few more listens
Lex-What’s this got to do with chop suey?
Brad-Everybody loves chop suey....
Perfect analysis guys. Lol.
You should do B.Y.O.B next is my favorite from them 🔥🔥🔥
Sugar is even better but a solid argument to be made for BYOB too.
agreed byob is good shit
Byob
I agree it's an awesome song with a simple yet powerful message(BYOB)
@@rippinreaper6939 Agreed. Very reminiscent of "War Pigs", but unfortunately a message that will be perpetually applicable.
Plus, the ladies seem to like the parts where it drops into a dance groove!
Whatching your mind be blown Brad fills me with envy... still one of my faves after all this time!!
you guys are so genuine i love it. best reactors for sure no pretense no BS just real reaction,,, i'm a fan i'm addicted
In an interview, Daron Malakian explained, "The song is about how we are regarded differently depending on how we pass. Everyone deserves to die. Like, if I were now to die from drug abuse, they might say I deserved it because I abused dangerous drugs. Hence the line, 'I cry when angels deserve to die.'
Welcome to rock where the story and song do not always make sense on the surface
First time checking your SOAD reactions. I'm feeling like you all are gonna love this band.
It's nice to see that Brad isn't looking quite as scared anymore 😁😁😁
If you don’t catch the vibe of a song right away, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not for you. Listen to it again. And again. And maybe a few more times after that. The best songs, in my experience, take multiple listens before you can truly appreciate all of their nuances and complexities. The songs I love most are the ones I didn’t love on first listen. Some of them I didn’t like at all.
not sure i agree with that. 1st time hearing this band and i can guarantee 1 time of hearing is good enough for me. i mean i dont need to eat a turd 5 or 6 times to realize it taste like shit. just saying
@@cannibaljoe7748 I get what you mean but I disagree too, because there are a ton of bands I didn't "get" when I was younger, but are now some of my favorites. It's not because they are shit, it's because I had to be of the right age and mentality to truly experience them.
@@cannibaljoe7748 hearing a song that you've never heard before, especially one that has some drastic switch ups and layers like SOAD likes to use, can definitely take some getting used to. And as for your analogy for eating a turd, its more along the lines of eating an exotic meal using ingredients you've never tried before. Its hard to say if you enjoy it the first time you try it. That's how an acquired taste works
@@josefsieffen18 no I’ll stick to my analogy thank you though
Everyone doesn’t have to enjoy the same things
If you enjoy it great keep listening to it I won’t tell you to stop
Yep that was me with Baba Yaga
This incredible rabbit hole you've discovered should be explored at all costs. Up next - BYOB, Deer Dance, Cigaro. I-E-A-I-A-I-O, Prison Song, Toxicity. Hold on tight. This is a deep hole filled with a bounty of amazing deep cuts. Enjoy!
Aerials, psycho, highway song, prison song, science, sad statue, radio/video, sugar, hypnotize I could keep going lol
Oh, spiders, cant forget spiders
Just found your channel tonight and love your videos. Can't wait to watch more. GG
YAAAAS!!
That's what I love seeing.
ROCK ON, AND ROCK OUT!!
For SOAD, you’ve gotta listen to Aerials and Toxicity
and BYOB and Sugar and Lonely day and Soldier side and streamline and prison song and bounce
@@kbhrx fck it, they need to just listen to all their music. So many great songs

System of a Down is in a whole league of their own! So bad ass! Serj’s voice is one of my favorites!
His voice is both brutal and beautiful!
An old fav of mine. Thanks for making me smile this am. Lexi you are such a rocker and know how to break these down. Seeing you smiling while banging brings me such joy.. Poor Brad is confused but trying.
This makes me so freakin happy. This is my second video of yours to watch and... I subscribed.
"this makes me want chop Suey" ..... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The part about “father in to your hands, I commit my spirit” comes from the Bible - Luke 23:46 when Jesus calls out his last words before dying on the cross to God. Interesting tidbit, they were at an impasse with figuring out that part of the song so they went to Rick Rubin’s house - producer of all good things - and he told Serj (lead singer) to grab a book off the shelf and open to a page and read it to come up with his bridge/chorus. He opened to that part of a bible and the rest is history.
RESEARCH IS THE KEY TO UNDERSTANDING EVERYTHING IN METAL!
No superficial lyrics here, all ties together here.
Love this! Just subscribed because I LOVE Lex's appreciation and understanding of music I've loved my whole life!
I think when it comes to metal stuff you should listen to it twice. Once so Lex can get the metal princess groove outta her system and then the second time so she can try to figure out what’s going on with the meaning. She really needs to go to a rock concert!!!!!
Chop Suey became the name after they censored the original title. I interpret this song as you bringing yourself down through the "I did this for you, so do this for me" attitude.
It’s Jesus Christ yelling out as a human being on the cross from the mind of.an angry son disgusted with those he’s dying for and not understanding why his father sent him here
Been binging your channel and basically you 2 are one of my fave channels!
I love SOAD , its so good seeing new generations discovering them...
Lex you are so a rocker... love it
You have no idea what you’re getting into with band. Put your seatbelts and headgear on. They’re very different and even weird but AMAZING!!!
Taking me back to my high school days with all this metal 🤘 love it💗
This song blows you away the first time you hear it for sure. Definitely confuses you but then you wanna hear it again right away because you are curious and you know it didn't suck. This whole album is gold. You can easily sit through the entire album in one sitting. This CD will be in your player for at least 2 weeks.
Love watching Lex in the metal reactions. She feeling it. You can see it in her face. She feeling it.❤
Chop suey is based upon the differences of how people pass and in how they are judged by society.
I love the rock or metal reactions. Keep em coming
You guys are the best, found yall on tiktok, and have been running thru your videos for the last couple hours hahaha feel like im rediscovering these songs through y’all 👍🏼
Watching y’all come from where y’all was a year or so ago to now, is freaking awesome!!!! Y’all are now part of the musical inclined group! We like all music, especially rock!!! 😂
Lex!!! Seeing you get hyped on the songs that used to bring me so much comfort as a teen is so rad!!! I love the reflections / observations you both bring to you analysis
I think this is the best by far 'system of the down" done!!
One of my all time favourite songs, it's just pure perfection.
Alright I have watched 10 of your videos covering many genres and I am a fan. Just subbed! Keep it up. Love seeing music from others people perspective.
Truer words were never said... Everyone loves chop suey. 💚
😆😆💀
The song was supposed to be called SUICIDE - but the record label wouldn’t let them call it that. So they CHOPPED suicide in half… Suici (Suey) - Chop Suey
Keep up the consistency, but make sure to take time for yourselves so we can keep this going for a long time! Love y’all!
I enjoy watching Lex get into all of this good music for the first time.
I went to see these guys live in Sydney at the hordern pavillion. When the father lyrics start all the way to the end, every single person in the place sang. You couldnt hear the band anymore. Just the whole crowd singing. It was spine chilling, emotional, EPIC.
A metal song that Brad likes more than lex ! What is this channel coming too???
😆💀💀💀
To
Right I was shocked that lex was off the vibe 😹
Lex was feelin it too
Word !
I have to say that Lex had been into it all the way and always but for Brad to enjoy it more than Lex did ?
Holyshit !
That was a switch !
Have you saw their last previous reaction with "Demolisher" by Slaughter To Prevail ?
OMG and Brad admit that that was his favorite song !
Yeah my man Brad is now an official a metalhead !
I love seeing videos of diehard Rap fans getting into Rock / Metal. As a huge fan of Rock and Metal !
It would be nice if Rock and Metal would be just as popular as Hip Hop !
Avenged Sevenfold Buried Alive or NIghtmare. Lex will love those guys.
Nightmare
Afterlife!
Huh. What about a little piece of heaven? Too much?
@@Scoobay For a noob, that is something you have to scale into IMO.
U guys are awesome. Always seem like such great humans
One of the best reactions to metal from non-metalheads I’ve seen! Nice job guys!
Off the album toxicity, the song deer dance is so deep lyrically. I love it. Sonically and mentally
Deer dance is such a tune
Toxicity and Aerials, among many others, are definitely songs you need to listen by them! One of my favorite bands from any genre 🤙🏻
I love these kids!!! I just subscribed to their channel.
I usually only listen to your Uk reactions but, I’m loving the fact I’ve just found out you do these reactions too! Used to bang to this. 🤘
Going with what Brad was saying about liking the randomness and the switch-ups, I think he'd really enjoy Toxicity.
Brad: "How do you feel about it so far?"
Lex: "It's LIT!"
I liked that. :)
Check out #LonelyDay, it's a beautiful song and my favorite SOD song, also the story of my life...
Also, #Spiders is another of my favorites... both these songs are sung w/ clean vocals, melodic, and not all over the place like Chop Suey.
Then... if you really want to see / hear 'lit'... go back to the beginning where it all began and feast on some #Sugar!!
“What is going on?” 😂 Great reaction! New to the channel absolutely adore both of you guys. You can tell you just good peoples. ✌️
2 hours watching your videos. Very beautiful couple, starting to love metal. Love watching this 🤘😊
More System of A Down
Awesome!! One of the songs of the century, and not just in the metal genre (just check the views on RUclips to get some perspective), from one the most talented and unique bands ever!
"Random" is a good word to describe a lot of their songs :)
Don't dwell much in the meaning cause SOAD are very cryptic and often tell people to interpret as they want (like you did).
Try "Toxicity" next! It's a blast!
Cheers, fun video!
ONE OF THE ONLY REACTION CHANNELS THAT ARENT FAKE AF! You are even straight up when you don't like something. One week half these reactors are drum critics, the next the same reactors are vocal coaches! They haven't heard some of the most major songs from major bands throughout all genres. What do the do in the car since birth, sit in silence? Do they not watch movies and hear some of these songs they react to. Then they're scared to say when they aren't actually a fan of what they react to. No way they like every damn song from multiple genres, unless they just have no real taste and just like everything. You already know word for word what most are going to say. Wtf!? Lost in Vegas, Jamal, trash talkers, Stevie Knight, and "Coach" are about all I listen to anymore until I come across your channel. Much respect for honest opinions and reactions! Tired of droll "Woooooow!" reactions in some reactor's videos.
Love the transitions 💚💚💚
I've been listening to this song since it came out and I still don't know what lyrics are all about...and to be frank , I don't care about the lyrics whatsoever. What I like about it is the explosive energy of the music, which is enough for simpleton as I am :D
React to System of a Down - Aerials
Another good one
Yay! One of my most favorite bands. They can be a little random and weird, but that's part of why they're awesome. I hope y'all react to more System of a Down!
FUCK you guys are my new favorites. KEEP IT UP! Thank you.
Love this song as well as y’all’s reactions. Check out some more SOD, Toxicity, BYOB, and chic n Stu!
THIS IS AMAZING! I loved this video. More System of a Down! The lyrics are amazing to dissect and ripe with sociopolitical commentary, the music between the beautiful harmonies and Armenian influence and harder rock/metal - it's just a fucking vibe. Bonus - they have so so many dope songs across their five albums. If you enjoyed the amazing transitions of hard rock and melodic harmonies, you'll like most of their catalogue. This band is a defining artists of the 9/11 generation. The world changed in those years, and SOAD was the soundtrack for many adolescents and young adults in that time. Because of the lyrics of this song actually, it was quite controversial when it was released in getting radio play or not (because of 9/11 and the suicides). Favorite songs I'd suggest: Holy Mountains (very powerful about the Armenian Genocide - check the 2015 live concert in Armenia for the first time in the rain); Aerials (a very popular song); BYOB (popular party song); Toxicity (one of their most famous)
I remember waiting up til after midnight for the premiere with some bros. When we heard it we all knew they would blow up. That CD was a masterpiece.
I’m amazed of how many super popular songs you haven’t heard of. I kind of envy you guys hearing all these for the first time.
Serj gives us a little taste of his Armenian side in his vocal melodies. love them!
It was supposed to be an assault on your senses to wake up and realize taking ones life can be caused by external factors? His voice is fire
I like your interpretation on the actual name of the song it makes a lot of sense
Took me 10 years to catch on to the vibe of this band in general, but now they're one of my faves!
yes Brad, this is good music, even if you don't get too in depth in the meaning, it will get you to bounce
Please do some Nine Inch Nails. They have a huge catalog in the large fan base and lots of interesting songs dating all the way back to 1989 to present
I think you gave the most honest response to the makeup of this song.
I love how Brian is chill when it comes to his rocking out, when I know he wanted to mosh during a majority of this song.
Would love for you two to react to Volbeat - For Evigt.
It's a Danish Metal/Rock band, they got a very unique sound.
I'd suggest Rage Against The Machine. Killing in the name... Or Bullet In The Head. Real rap metal sound. Love your reactions by the way.
Lex perfectly encompasses my reaction when I first heard the song. Brad stopped the video towards the end right when Lex was about to lose it. Brad wasn’t there when I first heard it. I absolutely went nuts.
"Everyone loves Chop Suey!" Greatest line of all time to a great song!! Love you guys😊
