Screens are probably made out of carbon fiber or Kevlar types of material. Slowing the wind reduces amount of stress caused by winds.
You did okay in the storm. Thought the storm surge was supposed to be a lot higher and lucky it wasn't.
This was not good, but considering how terrible storm surges can be, it was far less terrible than what could have happened.
