It truly does not matter at all. We all grew up not saying the anatomically correct term and we are just fine. My kids said other terms for them and they are completely normal kids and never had any issues. It really does not matter. They are 31, 29, and 25! Not being rude, just saying it is okay if you have previously not done this with your kids!

I had a lot of interventions turned emergency c section. So many similarities with my first birth. Def left my husband and I feeling a bit traumatized and sad about birth itself. Well, 3 years later- and after some therapy sessions- we had a successful healthy VBAC and experientially learned every birth is soo different. My prayer is that one day you’ll experience a birth you can call beautiful. Don’t lose hope that it can be so different next time! You overcame something so hard, and I bet you’ll use that experience to learn from for future births. Thanks for sharing story!

My heart goes out to Abby. Listening to her tell her story was like listening to my own baby's birth story. Rough C-section, hemorrhaging (I needed two bags of blood because of a history with anemia), baby taken to NICU for breathing struggles, put on a CPAP and had a feeding tube, me laying in my room basically alone for 15 hrs before I could even see my baby. It was supposed to be the happiest day of my life but it ended up being one of the most depressing and traumatizing days of my life. I'm still not fully over it and it happened 18 months ago. Birthing a child is an insane thing. It's incredible and amazing and immensely difficult.

@@jayannakelley9051 having a baby now actually is a lot different for a lot of parents now vs in previous generations, especially for young parents. a lot of us don’t have the village that previous generations had, and none of my friends are having kids either, so it’s nice to be able to relate to someone currently going through it even if it’s online.

I get stressed watching these young parents freak out about every little thing. Even to change a diaper, you don’t need all that crap they think they have to have. We could be at the park with friends having a cookout & I’d just take Andrea to the car & change her diaper on the seat in about 3 mins. Yes, I breastfed all 3 of our kids.

My 1st was a 100% unmedicated birth and my 2nd was a c-section due to placenta previa. Despite having a section scheduled, she came 3wks early by emergengy c-section because I started bleeding. She was then immediately taken to the NICU because of her lungs. As a result I didn't see her until I was able to get out of bed and go down to the NICU about 24 hrs later. There is such a tremendous difference in how the hormones hit you between the two. During labor and delivery you're awash in oxytocin so, I immediately fell intensely in love the moment she was out. My second lacked all that positive intensity since you don't experience those hrs of oxytocin. You still love them, but that same depth of feeling and bond takes a little time. Never having had surgery before, the emergency nature of it, how awful it feels when they're tugging and pulling the baby out and then how painful recovery is, was all pretty traumatizeing as well, which I think compounds the problem of slower bonding. Just from recovery alone, I've always said I'd choose an unmedicated labor and delivery any day over a c-section.

Nobody tells us how epidural can affect our labor productivity… but there are so many disadvantages including prolonging the labor and literally letting your baby do it all on its own.
I did a lot of research and decided not to get an epidural. I had the best experience possible and such a quick labor.
And I’m glad I didn’t listen to the nurses saying I should get an epidural.
When I have my second baby I won’t have an epidural either.

What studies did you find that showed an epidural prolonged labor? I’d be curious to read because every woman I’ve talked to who has gotten an epidural has had a short labor time from epidural to delivery….I would assume because the epidural helps your body relax and dilate more.

Abby, your experience is almost exactly what I went through. We had the same expectations going in, needed an induction, 3 days and 3 hours of pushing, a c section, NICU baby. It was so so hard but we made it through. It felt a little isolating having been through that experience when so many people have a much simpler and "easier" experience. Although I hate that you had to go through that struggle too, it is comforting to know I am not the only one. So happy you made it through and baby CJ is healthy 😊❤️

I had my son at 29 weeks. He spent a month and a half in the NICU. I know I had seen Abby donated her milk to someone when Griffin was a newborn and I think she's amazing for that. I was on medication that I couldn't breast feed but in the NICU they had donated breast milk and so that's what I chose for my son bc being 2lbs I figured that's what was the best and healthiest for him. He's now 8 and healthy as could be. I'm so thankful for the NICU volunteers. They brought meals and donated clothes and knitted tiny hats bc the ones from the hospital were too big for the preemies. I feel Abby's pain about not seeing the baby for a long time. They wheeled mine in after they woke me up bc I had to be put under completely bc it was an emergency. I saw him and touched his little foot and they took him to another hospital that had the NICU so I didn't get to see him again till I was released from the hospital. It's such a hard time

Wow love this episode, Thank you Abby for being so honest. I'm sure it was very scary, I'm a quadruplet and my mom has told me my birth story so many times and it sounds so scary. She also started hemorrhaging. And of course with me and my brothers being quadruplets there were a lot of problems. I was on life surrport for the first 3 weeks of my life. And all 4 of us were in the NICU for at least a month. Thank for sharing so glad CJ is healthy and doing great.

I had an emergency c-section 18yrs. ago because i fell off of the hospital bed and cracked my head open but i remember them tending to me immediately, getting the c-section and a time in my room because they brought my son to c me and my husband tried to change my son's diaper and his mom tried to help him because he would not let them or stop crying and so i said give him to me and i will do it and he instantly stopped crying when i got him!😊

@@nikr9240No, that was not the case with my friends children, who are all adults. She was a stay home Mom, home schooling too. They are close, the grown children, always have been, even with the youngest who is the only girl. 😊

@@nikr9240As a matter of fact, the youngest, got married on her parents anniversary. My friend babysits their baby as her daughter had gone back to work as a nurse in home care. I wonder how people get so overwhelmed in their minds over a family over 2 or 3? My parents had 4 children....no problem! Plenty of love and time and playmates and as grownups.... siblings who love their parents and siblings and are friends with those siblings too!

I cried watching this, I feel like I relate to this story. I went into labor at 26 weeks pregnant, ended up having a placental abruption and incompetent cervix. We were told we were staying in the hospital until I had the baby, whether it was next day or 3 months from then. After a week and a half I had to have a crash C-section. I was not awake for the surgery and my husband was not allowed to go with me. It was like one of those dramatic movie scenes. I am so thankful the dr came and got my husband’s phone and took pictures of her otherwise we would not have any. She was 2lbs 7oz. I was unable to hold her for the first week, so the first time I held her she was a week old and when we did want to hold her we had to ask if we could. She stayed in the NICU for 69 days.

Sounds like Caleb has some trauma from Abby’s delivery. My husband has a lot of trauma from mine. We labored for so long and pushed for a while and ended in an emergency c-section because my son was huge and his heart rate kept dropping my husband was so scared he was gonna lose both of us. He said he had nightmares for weeks. 🥺

I was induced and went through almost the exact same thing as Abby. I lost 1300 ml of blood and also hemorrhaged. Same thing with my uterus not contracting back. I didn’t end up in a c-section but it was still the scariest moment of my life. I know that fear and I also have such a sad memory of birth. I’ve talked to my dr and she’s confident I’ll be okay in future pregnancies but just wanted to comment and let you know you’re not alone!
