Had one for 7 years. A bit more expensive in the UK. £70 or about $80 but still a bargain. As you say very easy to work on and super accurate

I would love to see a carbine made on this platform. I have the pistol. After shooting it for a week, I bought one for my brother. It’s a remarkably good deal. Every one that I have seen performs better than advertised. The only thing I would like to see changed is the left handed safety . For $32, I can live with it.
Bits of paper towel or cotton can be muzzle loaded for shooting mosquitoes in the house also. Very satisfying payback for the little bloodsuckers.
It would be great I'd they did. Typically I get 1" group at 20 yards. Sometimes I can get a 1/2" group.

Great video. Love the way you showed the targets on the screen as you shot them. I have this gun and what really gets me is how quiet and how there really is zero kick. It feels like there's no way it's shooting as hard as it actually is.
Man I thrilled to see the review of this pistol. I have been contemplating one for about 2 months now. Obviously it’s not a price issue. I’m unfortunately one of those people who can’t just buy something I think might be cool, even if it’s dirt cheap. I have to do countless hours of research. I have a 100 hour minimum but will usually be in the 350-500 hours of research at time of purchase. It’s horrible but so are repairs. The bitterness of poor quality persists long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten-Benjamin Franklin. Another great review man!!! Keep them coming.
Joshua...Amazon has these for $26.00. I tuned one for a buddy and gave it to him as a gift. I honed the piston tube, just smooth it out with 1200 wet/dry sandpaper. I Lubed it up with synthetic grease. Polished the barrel crown. Polished the trigger and stretched the trigger spring. It lightened the pull weight. Smooth shooter!!
I can't wait, I ordered mine April 2 and I am still waiting. I know it's just usually sold out in alot of Canadian retailer. Haha and now as I've been waiting there it is back in stock. 3 years ago Amazon was going from the 2004 to the p-17. I purchased 6 of these for $9 each. I gave these away for Christmas, to friends. I kept one for myself.. they are fun , and well worth the money.. I really enjoyed the review !

I just recently came across this air gun and honestly I typically only purchase air rifles but I had to order this air gun can't beat the price especially considering how well I see it performs on several RUclips channels. I also couldn't find any negative reviews on it either. So I'm looking forward to it getting here Monday. I haven't owned a air pistol since I was like 13yrs but I do own several air rifles. I actually just recently picked up the updated version of the .22 caliber Remington express nitro mag gas piston break barrel Rifle. And now just ordered this little gem also to add to my collection.
Hey John. I agree with you 100%. This pistol is the best buy in airguns on the market today. Wouldn't it be great if all airguns came with a wonderful trigger like the P-17. Hand mine for several years and mounted a Daisy red dot scope ($10) and shoot off hand for plinking fun. Your reviews are great and as an avid airgunner I enjoy them all. Thanks
I have one of these & absolutely love it! I bought mine about two months ago and I shot it everday for about a month. LOVE the trigger. I shoot Crosman 7.4 pointed throught it. I have big hands too & the pointed pellet makes it a little easier to load. Also, I am left handed so the safety being on the left is awesome! Can't recommend this gun enough! Great review man!

This pistol is unbelievable accurate! The only negative thing in my opinion is it could be a little bit better looking. I hope beeman can make a 2.0 version of this gun with a better looking design.

Great review as always. I have one of those. It needs a reseal I think. I have added a cocking arm to mine which reduced the cocking weight considerably. Very accurate.

I had to come back to this video, as I was on my way out the door when this came up and only got a chance to come back and watch this video again, today ) I did this because
this low cost air pistol video is worth a closer look and I do recommend this to buy, absolutely!
It is a fun gun and can be made even more fun to use ( in my opinion, of course ) if you mount a Red Dot Sight on it. I use a dovetail to picatinny rail mount adapter,
as is suggested, it does hold the sight or scope so much more securely.
Like I said about, two days ago,...it IS A GREAT plinking pistol. Go buy one.

Great review! I've seen several on this pistol and by far yours was the most informative and scientific. I shoot precision .22LR and this is a great way to practice without going to the range. I have another air pistol, Umarex Trevox with a noise dampener. It is does not dampened it at all. I have a real suppressor on my .22 and the .22 is quieter, I see that this will be a great replacement for that.

Same here. I've had mine for a good 6 years now. Hoping a good cleaning, oiling and/or o-ring replacement will fix my issue. Gun still looks great.
Best pellet pistol period (for plinking and target shooting). I got mine years ago when they were $25. I did the piston deburring and lubing when I first got it and it's been flawless ever since. Best trigger of any gun I own. I have a reflex sight on mine and shoot spent co2 cartridges at 10yds in my gallery. No recoil and light trigger, if you miss it's on you!
I haven't read all the comments, so this may have been addressed already. The gun does NOT lock after one pump. It CAN be opened before the shot is fired. What DOES happen, if you open the gun to, for instance, put a second pump of air into it, is let out all the air that was in the gun from the first pump. It is a Single Stroke Pneumatic gun not a Multi-pump Pneumatic so more pumps do not equal more power. I don't know why you said the gun will not open with air in it. I have 3 of these and they all open.
I will agree with you that they are a great value, which is why I own 3. I can outfit my friends when they come over and I use the guns often to introduce new shooters into the sport. I have found that it is more of an adult airgun, mainly because of the effort required to close the gun. I find that even young teens struggle. When using the gun unscoped, I've pinched my belly fat because I was pressing the gun against my body to bring it in close to me so the closing would take less effort. It hurts and it leaves a blood blister, so don't do that.
What you say about the scope rail being plastic is a legit concern, especially if you leave the gun in a hot space like a car in the sun. The plastic will soften and the rail can deform. In spite of that, I use 2 single rings and a very cheap 2X pistol scope on my personal gun (the 2 loaners just have the open sights). The rings are low mount and I have them spread as far apart as possible. I haven't had issues with deformation of the rail or point of impact shifting. By using the low mount rings, I can't get my hand on the "slide" when I cock the gun, just as you pointed out, but, because to scope tube over hangs the rear of the gun, the gun is much easier to cock by pressing on the scope itself. It has been working for a number of years now.
When you or anyone watching this video take the piston out for the lubing that you recommended, take a look at the tiny hole in the cylinder that the piston came out of. Because this is a cheaply made knock off of the German gun, some of the finish work gets overlooked and that hole will have a burr on it. Since the piston's O-ring slides over that rough hole with every cocking stroke, it will abraid the ring and cause it to stop pumping. A little rub with some fine sandpaper will get rid of the burr and make the ring last much longer.
You mentioned that the gun could be dry fired without hurting the gun, but you didn't mention that it had a built-in dry fire feature. If you open the gun just to the point where you here a "click", you will have set the trigger and the safety and now you can close the gun easily, since it isn't compressing any air. It just sets the trigger. Now you take off the safety and the trigger will respond just as it would if you where live firing. It's a great feature to utilize for improving trigger control.

I bought one of these mainly as a training tool for my great granddaughters. As you say, very accurate, easy to shoot. Plus you can cock it to the first click which enough to set the trigger for dry fire practice. Mine is hard to cock even with lubing the cylinder. People with large fingers may have trouble loading the pellet in. Thanks for the review!

I got 1 of these about a year ago. I got it to practice my handgun skills. I shoot it open sites. Accuracy out to 25 or 30 feet is on the money. The only complaint I had was the auto safety drove me nuts. I removed the spring and now it's manual safety... I have a thought, want to see what you think? This is what I would call a break barrel pnumatic. Why can't someone build a break barrel pnumatic rifle? I'm sure the cocking effort would be a little harder than existing springers but with the leverage of a rifle barrel and longer stroke plus a larger piston looks like they could build one that could get say 800 fps without a piston bouncing around when it is fired giving it the accuracy of any other pnumatic and no need for the artillery hold.

Nice pistol. I really like my Crosman Vigilante for $49.00 Have a blast with it. I also have pump pistols but they were over fifty bucks.
With this being not only "cheap" but also quality, it's the perfect little diesel gun.
Dieseling happens only in spring air rifles/pistols where the air is heated up from the rapid compression during the shot cycle. In this gun you have already compressed the air at a speed which is not high enough to raise the temp to any significance. The subsequent act of firing the gun will actually cool down the mechanism due to sudden pressure loss, so no, I'm afraid it's not!

I bought the "mother model" Weihrauch HW 40 some 25 years ago and it still fulfills all my shooting needs. It is the only airgun I have and need. The China made P 17 (under license) doesn't seem in any way inferior at all, which definitely makes it a bargain at all times! The accuracy is just astounding so I have a lot of fun on my 15 meter indoor range up in the attic above my appartment. Since the gun is not noisy I technically can use it range any time of the day or night. Lol
At 15 meters I use a cheap 4x15 riflescope and hand rest it, just like you in the vid. the groups are quite competitive.
My riflescope is mounted lower than yours. The front part is flush with the muzzle, the rear part extends by about 2,7 inch beyond the rear of the gun, so I developped a technique to shut the gun to take that into account, which I have never seen on any review yet: I rest the butt in my lap and hold the gun in my right hand. With the left, I push the top part down with my fingers, not with the palm. I align all four index to pinky on one side, next to the rear open sight and my thumb on the other side. I keep the fingers straight, so my hand doesn't push on the scope which is now between my fingertips and my palm. I also raise my left elbow to direct the pushing force more effectively.
After all, we have to remember that the scope is mounted on plastic and we want to insure that no force is exerted on it that could wear out or damage that plastic rail.
It was a pleasure to see that accurate shooting is still possible even at 20 meters. This gun never ceases to amaze me.
I get never tired of mentioning that the gun can be dryfired without damage (no moving parts) so that can be used for trigger training. For this purpose you can even arm the trigger only by lifting the top part just untill the safety is engaged with the characteristic click sound, without pumping the air.
I would also like to point out that on the inside, the gun has two pellet symbols indicating the pellets to use: wadcutters and pointed pellets. So please, people, do NOT load it with round balls! The barrel is rifled and round balls of any kind will damage the rifling.
It also seems like the gun performs excellently with the cheapest pellets. When I buy the H&N Excite Econ II in bulk I pay € 2,83 for a can of 500. That's currently $ 3,32. And these pellets perform nearly as well as the pro ones you used in the vid.
It is a pleasure to share the enthusiasm about this gun with everybody.

Was leaning towards a Weirauch HW40, (Got a 77K, which is superb) which is an identical gun, but 3X the price here in the UK. Beeman now ordered on the strength of this review! If any bits fail, I'll replace with the Weirauch, and see what happens.

I've always preferred long arms as a practical method for air guns, and ballistic firearms. With that said, I do not own pistols of any sort.
But I enjoy your reviews, and demonstrations very much, to the point that I believe I have watched over 80% of your posted videos now.
Now back to the video at hand, if I were to get a plinking pellet pistol, this would be the one I would get. I was very impressed with the accuracy, pellet speed, price, and ease of maintenance.
I do have one suggestion. In quite a few of your videos the first thing you do is to introduce the airgun that is to be reviewed. In the next sequence, usually projectile velocity, suddenly the gun is outfitted/modified with various optics, optic mounts, bipods, etc. I often am left wondering what kind of optic was that?; or, where did he find that optic mount?
I believe to keep from straying from the review, and to keep the video format timeframes manageable, is why! But, and here it is, could you list links to the other items in the video description.

I've had one for a couple of months and I can't believe I hadn't bought one years ago. I've put a couple of tins of pellets and a tin of round balls through it absolutely trouble free. If you're hesitant to pull the trigger on this one id say don't wait. Great review as usual.

Better not use round balls in this gun because they could damage the rifling!
@@ytucharliesierra lead balls, SMH. Also I have a hand me down 2100 classic that almost never had pellets shot thro it, only bbs for over 20 years and the groves are just clear as a bell. Most people just toot everyone else's chin music about this and they have nothing else to compare except someone else word. Also been shooting airguns over 50 years so I reckon I know what works for me. Thanks for the heads up though, no worries here.
@@leroyjarvis5617 There is nothing like first hand experience indeed. I was just going by the manufacturer's recommendation (see the pellet symbols inside the gun) and some other knowledgeable sources of info. Still, your input complements my knowledge. I guess lead balls can be ok after all then.

Could you post a linkthe scope mount and the handgun scope that wont break the bank? I to have ham hocks for hands and will need the extra room between the scope and the pistol. I subscribed about 2 weeks ago I'm also thinking of buying the Hatsan Model 95 QE 22 cal, some have told me buy the regular Model 95... What's your take on this?
OOPS! My pistol started leaking oil. Not sure where the oil was coming from but Amazon took it back. Today they are sending me a replacement. $32 you can't beat it. I had an Air Venturi V10 to test out when I still had my P17. The V10 only averages 300fps, a 2 lb trigger and the P17 beat it on accuracy. The V10 also costs $270. To get something better than the V10 I would have to spend $368 for an FAS 6004 or a Weihrauch HW 75 for $460. The P17 is an accurate as the FAS and the HW, that is according to some folks I know that have them. Is it a competition air pistol? I really believe you can compete with it. People at the range might laugh at it until they see the accuracy. This is the 3rd time I watched your review and I have to say your reviews are the most comprehensive I have found.

“Easy to work on” yes it is. I turned one into a .22 caliber. You can get quality seals and replace the stock ones which are cheap. Great plinking pistol.

It never fails, it can be quiet all day then I start taping and all kinds of unpredicted noise shows up. I ordered a couple new P-17's as well. In the future I am going to do a step-by-step video on how to tune these. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for posting these reviews! I'm looking for a single-pump replacement for my Crosman 1377 (even if it wasn't broken, the multi-pump is annoying), and am thinking this would be the best option over the Umarex Trevox and Benjamin Trail NPII despite the lower FPS, having looked at your reviews on all 3; would you agree? Seems to be a better gun in nearly every other category for significantly cheaper.
It all depends what you are shooting. For backyard plinking and target shooting the P-17 is hard to beat. 👍
@@AirgunDetectives is the FPS enough to dispatch mice at around 10 feet?
At 10 feet yes this has enough power for small rodents such as mice. It’ll put holes in a soup can at 10 meters.
Where did you get the scope and what's the name of the scope
I would say it's pretty loud compared to my webley tempest. Mine doesn't always latch down properly and the barrel pops up when fired. I now check the latch before the safety off. You must be pretty buff to latch that with a scope on and closing under the scope. I'm a mechanic so not exactly milky strength wise and have no trouble without a scope. I set up at 25mtrs and hitting an empty pellet tin every shot. The webley could only dream of that.
Just got this. You are right, it is super accurate and consistent! I went through 500 pellets so far. Any tips on maintenance? Does anything need cleaning or lubing?
You will have to eventually have to lube the O-ring on the piston with a little silicone grease or even a dab of White grease will work. Also a drop of oil on the pivot points on the cocking portion. But you should be good for 800-1000 shots.👍😉

I got mine yesterday. It is has nice weight to it making the feel a little like my Browning Buckmark. It is very accurate right out of the box and I was hitting the 10 ring at 25 feet. My only negatives....1.it is a very small space to put that pellet in....2.that 25lb needed to close that pistol is very heavy, does it get easier the more you shoot it? I also picked up a pellet trap to catch the lead.I measured the trigger pull with a Wheeler manual trigger pull scale and came in at 2lbs which is also the same as my Buckmark. Another question, I have some leakage of lubricant from the pistol. Is that normal? Aside from that I really like it because it allows me to practice precision shooting and not have to go to the range.
Just keep shooting it. You'll get use to it. They are really easy to work on. After several hundred shots you may want to re-lube the piston seal with some synthetic grease. White grease actually will work but the synthetic is better for the O-ring. Which can be replaced easily. It shouldn't leak but don't expect the chamber to hold air for 24 hours either. I’ve had mines for 2 years now. Never did any mods or tune up like others P17 owners. If you ask me those guys are going overboard moding this gun. It’s good for the price. Keep an eye on the pin that holds the rear sight mine walks out threw time as well as another nut that sits inside at the rear sight. I wouldn’t mind retiring my p17 for the sig sauer super target 😀

If you mean the pin that "hinges" the rear sight, you can lock that down with superglue.
I'd like to see more stuff about like on how to tear them down fix them and put them back up where to buy the parts how to get hold of the parts
Xisico ALSO released this but I think it was the model 112 or 120 a clone of a clone of a clone lol, BUT they included a .22 barrel with it as well! SO you get a dual calibre!

I have the stoger px4 a very close clone of this one .
I use Crosman Red Flight Pellets in Mine ,to get that extra penetrating power ,in order to take out pests with it : Pigeons . Squirrels. Crows.and such at close range .
I like to shoot crosman destroyer pellets in mine. They are accurate and load easy

That is pretty much what you get out of the box. But you can open up the handle. Stretch the trigger spring a bit, then reassemble it and it will lighten it more. I will do a video in the future to show a do-it-yourself tune. Really easy to work on.
The trigger actually has two settings. The standard one with a stop and a hairtrigger one without any stop at all. With the original matchlike trigger, that comes out of the box, being ideal as it is, you don't want to mess with it.
I adjusted mine using a 2mm hex wrench in the trigger blade hole.@@ytucharliesierra

Saw they're out of stock on all the airgun stores till ~6/22. Guessing won't hear much on any changes till then but who knows.

I rarely use mine because the cocking and loading is so tedious. The complete opposite of my favorite pistol, the Sig Sauer P226.

What gun would you recommend and what cal. I've been thinking of these two but need help your opinion is appreciated the two guns are the benjamin trail np xl or the gamo magnum I'm after something that has alot of power with a breakbarrel but no suppression system I like the noise
None of the above...I would go with the Sig ASP20 in .22 caliber my absolute first choice. The Gamo or the Benjamin are not even close. If I could only have 1 Breakbarrel that would be it. Powerful, really easy to cock, accurate, not pellet picky and has a great trigger. Another to look at is the Ruger Air Magnum or a tuned Xisico XS28 (Same Rifle). The Gamo Magnum is a 50 lb cocking effort and the Trail XL is in the higher 40's.Out of those two I would pick the Gamo. Much better trigger, especially after you install one of my trigger screws.
Thank you alot for your advice I've been trying to get second opinions for awhile now. Oh one more question are the 25 or 30 cals for break barrels worth anything looking into or should I stay away from them
@@darthbong9423 there are some really good .25 and .30 Cal break barrels. There are very few choices when it comes to pellets especially in the .30 caliber. But the larger calibers are a lot of fun!! I really like my Hatsan 135 .30 cal. Watch the review.
@@AirgunDetectives I've been thinking about the hatsan 135 aswell can only get one trying to make best choice appreciate your input alot. Dose it punch harder than the 22s? is it louder than the 22.s and most importantly how has it held up any issues I want a gun that wont break or need to be sent back vary reliable easy to take apart and clean when needed? Any ideas knowing the hole deal of what I'm after I'm thinking at this point 25 or possibly 30 if they pack a good enuff punch really enjoy your reviews by they way they are vary on top I mean cant go out and test it all but I'll take your word for it. This P-17 is just awesome!!
Had to buy it so I'd have a pellet pistol to shoot without using co2. Not a bad purchase at all. Could have gone with an expensive version of it - but what is the point? This performs as good as anyone would expect - or probably even better.
Did take a while for me to get used to it. For being an recoilless single pump pneumatic - it kinda did pop a bit upwards in my hands at first for some reason. Apparently not used to these yet. Had even to make an own way of holding it and pulling the trigger for it to shoot on point. But it shoots where it should when getting to know it.
I did blacken out the rear green dots on mine. The dots lit up too bright in daylight for me. Started going better after that.
All in all.. I'd definktely recommend this to everyone who is into airguns.
I actually gave one as a gift to a buddy. I honed the piston tube, just smooth it out with 1200 wet/dry. Lubed it up with synthetic grease. Polished the barrel crown. Polished the trigger and stretched the trigger spring. It lightened the pull weight. Smooth shooter!! Hope all is good buddy!😉👍

@@TejJavi Go with the P17. You only open once ,load it and shoot it. The multi-pump gets old to me. Pumping it 8-10 times every shot gets old. 😉👍
I'm so glad you said the pumping effort. This should always be given in the product description by sellers n in the owner's manuals. It rarely is. But I have to compare it to something I know. So what's the pumping effort on the Crosman 1322 American Classic, the Crosman Backpacker, and/or the Crosman 66 Power Master. I'm unable to pump the Backpacker, which must be at 50 pds., the Am. Classic is hard, and I can do only 2 pumps, n the Power Master is fairly easy.
I take back everything I ever said about a single shot sidearm. based on the performance I just saw for THAT PRICE? I will buy one just to piss around with. It's actually a good looking gun too.

I'm curious what the owner of a P3 would say. I'm not a quality-snob but I've heard the P3 is made of heavier, more durable parts, but the question is; does that translate into a better feeling gun, or one that will last longer? In this video you probably shot fewer than 75 rounds. I wonder how this gun will perform after 700 or 1000 rounds. Aside from o-ring seals and lubing, will it's other inner-workings still work? I'm skeptical. There must be a reason the P3 is THAT much more expensive but the price of this is indeed attractive. I just keep imagining this one falling apart sooner for some reason... cheaper gun = cheaper parts that don't last, imho. Buy another if it falls apart... ok, still cheaper than the P3... hmmmm... I just don't want something that will fall apart in the first place. I was also looking at the P1 (I prefer its cocking mechanism) but all I hear about is the constant breech seal issue with those. I'm staying away from that one. But this P17 really has me thinking twice about the P3. I really need to see some comparison videos. I wouldn't mind spending the extra $ for the higher quality BUT I need more proof it's really worth it. If I can't find that, hello P17.
