Good info. Just remember only way to remove Ammonia and nitrite/trates (with out plants and such) is to remove the water and add new. Topping off your tanks from evaporation doesn’t change the filth levels at all as the water evaporates and leaves behind all filth. If you have No Sump, then do 20% water change every 2 weeks in fully stocked tank, every month on lightly stocked tanks. If you have a Sump just remover water from Sump and clean out filter sponges and refill your Sump with fresh water every 2 weeks fully stocked or every month lightly stocked. But for both these cases scrub inside of your glass before doing every water change do break away any new algae about to kick start you don’t see yet. Been doing things this way with many variety of fish for my whole life this way and over 20+ years my own. All my fish and aquatic pets have always lived longer then species life span and very happy living around here. It’s very simple if you keep it simple. Pro tip from me use Sumps and a UV filer! Cheaper maintain reusable filters sponges and media, and makes water changes much more comfortable for fish and just makes tank keeping easier in every aspect lol. Took me 20 years to figure that out haha.

I love nano fish in a somewhat larger tank..I only lightly stock as this is more aesthetically pleasing to me and the fish seem really happy. Thanks for the great tip…👍🏽👍🏽

Great info about nitrates in your source water I have 10-20 ppm nitrate in my tap water luckily no ammonia or nitrite and tons of plants actually make me need to dose fertilizers 😅❤ so I can get away with small water changes less often.

I’ve added water hyacinths to my tanks. They seem to be working. Lower aggression, and clearer water. And I don’t have to worry about planting them. They just float on the surface.

My tap water has nitrates. Depending on the time of year, sometimes there are so many nitrates coming out of the tap that itll turn the test strip blood red. Thats why my water changes are generally HUGE. I normally do 70 to 80 percent. It's inexact, because I use a two python system where I have one dedicated to draining, and once I hit the 50% mark, I start to refill with the second python while still draining water.
