Looks like you might have a leaky rear diff based on the amount of sludge under your diff. Might want to steam clean the underside and inspect for leaks after about 100 miles or so.
@@adamsharrow7951 I noticed that afterwards as well. I cleaned it up best I could and will definitely do so. Fluid did come out of the fill plug, so it must not be much if it's leaking. The tag on the fill plug wasn't there so it possibly was done before and possibly overfilled.
Great Video. I liked the reminder about the washer on the drain plug and the factory reminder to take it easy for 300 miles. I agree, it will be hard to do.
Awesome video! I am hearing some grinding noise on my 03 when I back up or turn very slowly, and I saw this is a potential fix. It probably needs changed anyway so hopefully the noise will go away as well.
I appreciate the comment. It's hard to have my real personality come through on videos. I'm just not that type of person in front of a camera, but I'm trying to let it flow more. Thanks for the support.
Anyone looking to buy a c5 or c6, plan to change all the fluids first thing when you get the car. Most of these cars sit and people think in terms of miles for service. Change all fluids every 3 years at least.
Good point. There is no information on how often to change the diff fluid in our C5s, but that's a good rule of thumb to use. I meant to do it a lot sooner, but at least it's done now. Thanks for watching and commenting.
That's a common negative comment on the Bullets. For some they stick out too far and I can understand that. I kinda wish I paid extra for the black tips, but they're black after a few miles anyway lol.
I agree. The 4" bullet tips look great, but there's plenty of options out there. Check out Facebook marketplace and forums for good deals on used ones. I should have done that originally to save a bit.
Dude tell me about it. I had the oil for like 5 months before I finally did it lol. There's always projects with this out something else to keep us busy for a loooong time
Appreciate it man. Had the fluid since the spring and finally got around to it. Scott told me you made a stop in the 512 Garage for some fluid changes yourself.
Well done vid, this was a really good how to vid!! I'm going to have to change the rear diff oil in my C7 and wonder how close it is to this? I'm definitely going to be doing a video of it. Thanks :)
I would think they're similar. At least you're doing yours at a reasonable time. I think mine was done before bc it didn't have the tag on the fill plug, but ya never know.
@@YellowVette04 Most likely you are right (regarding the tag) I think mine will turn into a good fall project (this is GarageKing) its just I'm on my other channel answering some questions so it was easier to stay on this profile when your message came through. Thanks :)

If you have to ask then you have to do it. If previous owner didn’t provide you with service history/receipts then EVERYTHING needs to be done/gone over according to the schedule in the owner’s manual.
Idk much about gear oil to say that's or bad. I forget if it's in the owners manual or not for what weight to use, so I went by that or by what was on the forums.
I heard that it can affect if you put full synthetic in a corvette that is not from 2001 or 2004, my corvette is from 99, won't it be a problem if I put it?
This is such an informative video! I will be doing the same service today! One question tho, I noticed that you have some type of leak going on the diff around the rear cv axle. My 98 C5 suffers the same problem. Did you ever figure out where the leak is from?
The leaky butt is a common issue. I noticed it too, but the existing oil level in the diff was plenty since it started coming out of the fill port when I opened it. I cleaned up the case as best I could with brake cleaner and I'll keep an eye on it moving forward.
@@YellowVette04 I plan to do the same. and yah, leaky butt is very common, I wonder if there is any permanent fix to that? I plan on getting them all resealed when I replace my clutch, since the torque tube and all that good stuff needs to come out any way in order to get the new clutch back in.
Super late comment. These cars are getting old, and the rubber seals are getting crusty. Leaking is normal until you replace the seals. However, seeing as you have to pull quite a bit to get to the seals, why not just do a new ring+pinion and bearings? 👌
60k and no I haven't done the trans. I'm scared to touch the 4L60 lol. Don't wanna mess with it, but I may get it built so I'll do fresh fluid then. Thanks for watching
GM doesn't have a recommended interval. I've heard many say 3 years for a street car and much more often if the car is tracked. Luckily it's pretty cheap and easy to do yourself, so every 3 years sounds like the interval I'm going to go with.
As long as the oil has the limited slip in the oil then you don't need to add it. Mobil 1 and others have the limited slip in it, but definitely check to make sure. If not, then you'll need the additive. Thanks for watching
@@YellowVette04 I used 7 jack stands and 2 jacks when I replaced my harmonic balancer, I have a friend who was pinned under a car for 10 minutes before someone driving by heard him yelling. Almost easier than changing oil. Stupid pump is time consuming and tiring lol. Good seeing you and the little guy after that short rip.

I still haven't put fluid in my rear-end I rebuilt for the SSP a year ago LOL. Loved the driving part of the video buddy.
Gotta get that thing up and running lol. I know others have done the POV style, but I dig it so I might do more of it.
Very good job showing how to do. More of a concern is the jacking for me. LOL
I use hockey pucks at the jacking points with a scissor jack from my other car. Easy enough to get it high enough.
Just changed mine yesterday. Great video my friend.

The fluid should be Blackhole black normally for 17 Years of not changeing
