They are some good power trio’s from days past but Sykes , Appace and Franklin that’s what you call a Super power trio , that blows away every power trio before them, sad that Blue Murder did take off to me they were ground right out of the gate , you want to talk about underrated ? Blue Murder is the poster child for underrated.

I love their debut record. One of my favorites from that era and Sykes is one of the greatest guitarists to ever record. Criminally under rated and under apprecitated.

a whole documentary in under 7 minutes! Good Work! Also.. the Nothin' but Trouble release didn't work as well due to not having Tony Franklin on Bass... nothing wrong with Marco but Tony was a huge part of the Original sound and that was totally gone.

Thank you! I was in a hard rock 80’s style band from 86-89! We were the cliche band of that era that you’ve demonstrated Blue Murder to be! And I felt the demise of that era for hard rock bands. I had another band similar style from 90-93 (who hobble along right up until lockdown!) No albums. Just memories and 9 songs in the can never released! But yea 1985 (post live aid) until 1989 were absolutely exciting times for rock music and metal. That late 80’s hair band was insane and fantastic but had. Slow death from 89-93. And then rolled off the cliff as grunge came in. In 93(ish) my band - all of us now 30 years old at that time - had silverchair support us!!! And they blew us old men has beens off the stage. I have no idea why we continued for another 30 years haha. Blending rock and country and blues. And just surviving playing weddings parties anything!
Hindsight makes you realise how defined that era was. And how embarrassing 86-89 hair band rock was. There were so many overlaps and sound styles going on. The bright comet in the sky was the shredding hair band rockers! We were there! Having the same band mate insights. And struggles and seriously had some absolute amazing gigs and loyal fans. But we were couldn’t even be called has beens because we never were, in the first place! Two attempts at albums. One with the 86-89 band (Ezra) where all the shredding lead guitar parts were accidentally wiped (I wasn’t lead guitarist then. And my parts remained) by the engineer!! An event that literally split the band. We did three more gigs after that. I cut my hair short and it was over. The lead guitarist (blamed me) and we haven’t spoken since (maybe once on the phone in the mid 90’s). The other recording was with the band 89-93 (hey day era but still officially going today - the Outback Hippies) recorded 9 great shred, hard rock songs. But for many reasons typically band mates not getting on, that album never saw the light of day.
So yea. I’m literally a no body haha but I’m proud of myself for being able to make a living as a muso from 1993 until COVID (where the world stood still). So I feel like I achieved that.
Your mini doco bought it all back for me. I watched a clip of John Sykes in Thin Lizzy (maybe 1983 live). That’s what started this rabbit hole today. Digging for info on him.
And that era of hard rock - fighting for its life while pop, and disco, and new wave, punk etc kind of flourished was actually the best era of that style. The late 80’s era just before the fizzle of grunge caused. With all the cheesy videos and drum tones and synths. Was well - cheesy. Something felt compromised but awesome at the same time lol. I was also in bands from 76-85. And that long hair hard rock of thin Lizzy John Sykes era was just THE REAL DEAL! I never made it then either hahaha. But if you want a genuine long hair guitar shredding authenticity that 80-84 era was dynamite.
I lived in all of this world but not in the uk, Europe or the USA. But here in Nz (Ezra) and Australia (Outback hippies). So it was even harder to make a dent and build an audience. Plus I’d been born into a religious (almost) cult which purported rock music and long hair to be of the devil. So everything I did was an up hill battle! And align that with me being an all round average kind of person lol. It’s no wonder I didn’t make it!
But. I was there! Loved music from 1973 (aged 11 playing my first guitar) up until last night doing a gig at my mindfulness centre (now 62 playing a fender strat!). And I have an Irish wife (go Phil Lynott country!) and two gorgeous daughters (10 & 11). All my blood and genes lol. So I survived. Relatively in tact. And I go to sleep happy every night. In the home I own. What a journey. And thanks for your video. It sparked all these good memories!!!

"Save My Love" is my favorite song from either album. Great vocals and an amazing guitar sound (like all his songs). At the time, Boyz 2 Men was a VERY popular group that sang a lot of ballad typs songs and I had imagined that if John were have given it to them to sing (not because he wasn't an amazing singer, but more so because they were so popular) that the song would have been a worldwide hit. If you are from back in that day, picture those guys singing the song and you'll be like, "Yeah, I get it."

His guitar and songwriting skills on the big Whitesnake album were big contributors to the success of that album! Whitesnake never recovered from the loss of him leaving. I saw Blue Murder at the famous Rock & Roll Heaven bar in Toronto and they were very, very good, top notch musicians and performance.

I've asked Tony Franklin (Blue Murder's bassist) about that second song on the album. He said it's about a hot nympho woman who drives her boyfriend mad and that it is NOT about anything bad or illegal. I didn't press him on the schoolgirl line as I'm pretty sure it's tongue in cheek and I didn't want to piss Tony off. He did admit, though, that the title and lyrics have not aged well.

I think the decision for the singles was wrong, maybe they could have released Billy or Blue murder or Riot as singles, and used the budget on a very cool video related to those songs instead of doing something so cliche like in Jelly roll, the video from Valley of the Kings is very good anyways. But of course, maybe if they had released the heavier singles instead of the more commercial ones like Jelly Roll, the position on the charts would have been much more lower. In any case, John always was and will be my favorite guitarist, we can't do anything but continue recommending these hidden gems of hard rock.

I f*ckin' love Nothin' but Trouble. It is unfortunate that by 1993 that it is a couple years too late. I think that AOR, melodic hard rock that ride high one the proverbial horse and records sales charts around the world was cooling off in late 1991. The world had too much of a good and fun thing, becoming indifferent, setting the stage for bands from Seattle and overshadowing their predecessors rather than co-exist. I know that the musical shift is more complex, in regard to people in the music industry and MTV with different musical tastes.

Nothin' but Trouble is a magnificent production and achievement. Hard to explain it to people who aren't fans. Should be in the pantheon of all time greatest rock albums like Machine Head, Lights Out, Jailbreak, Back in Black, Night at the Opera and Boston to name a few. But anyway, wow! Just wow!!!

I mean, aside from the title, Sex Child isn´t as ilegal sounding as other songs of the era, like the ones you mentioned. I always saw it as another way to call a girl "baby", and the lyrics don´t mention anything that pictures the Sex child in question being indeed a literal child.

Man... I wish you had made Whitesnake and David Coverdale videos before making this sarcastic video. Grandpa David and the young girls... If you had told us what a grandfather David did to prevent Blue Murder from being successful. If you can't explain it, you should have learned it... John Sykes and Blue Murder were Hard'N'Heavy's salvation. If producers and music companies had given it a chance, Hard'N'Heavy would be somewhere else today. No one would listen to today's shitty music. What was done to John and Blue Murder is the breaking point. In the eyes of me and others like me, John is the "Last Commander" and Blue Murder is the "Last Castle"...
Can you bring back 80's Hard'N'Heavy? You can't bring it... But at least don't bury those who did their best...

@@RichyKearnsproductions To be honest, when I saw the sarcasm in your video, I stopped watching and wanted to share my thoughts. Maybe your other videos have a similar tone: some bitter truths, a little humor, a little nostalgia... I think we are very sensitive listeners when it comes to John Sykes and Blue Murder.
Please don't forget to check out Whitesnake videos. It will be a gold mine for you. For example, I wonder how you would comment on Whitesnake's Is This Love video. I'm sure you will find it more hilarious.
By the way, music video directors shot many similar videos at that time. The funny scenes in the clips are entirely the work of the directors. I don't think the musicians had anything to do with it. We should not forget this either.
