    Thank you! I am 13 days post op total knee replacement, and it has been the worst weeks of my life! My knee is still stiff, sore and swollen, especially around the kneecap. I'm a very active person, but this has been both mentally and emotionally tough. I'm ready to move!!

    6:09 , these exercises are awesome. I developed a knee flexion device that’s helped me get near 140degrees. Not sure how to put it out there so other people can get more flexion that increases mobility.

    I wish you two had been my therapists after my surgery ! you have the very best videos on knee stretches and have been following you for some time . I am an active 60yr old dance instructor who just had total knee replacement exactly 2 wks ago . My rom is only 70 and my doctor never used the machine that bends the knee . I start outpatient therapy tomorrow and hoping for total recovery but have heard stories where the rom was very limited and they had to go in and manipulate again under anesthesia . Please keep up the great work !! i love you both !!! i can fully understand all your videos . and love every one of them !!

    You both are so good. I get so many great ideas from your video's. I'm a week and a half post left knee total replacement. I'm on the young side for this surgery. I'm still having lots of pain and bending is very hard. I don't know if I just expect to much. I'm trying to keep my spirits up. Sleeping is still terrible. I had a partial in my right knee 3 years ago. Don't remember that being as painful. Keep the videos coming. Thanks

    Hey Bob and Brad I have been watching your knee video's for about 6 mo. I am 45 and had a partial knee replacement 6 weeks ago today. Before my surgery I was bone on bone for a year and a half. I really have been in a lot of pain for a long time. I have not squatted down in about 6 years due to knee trouble with actually both of my knees. I'm glad I found a doctor to help me get my life back. I have been working very hard to get my knee bending like it should. It has been a very long hard road along the way. I try not to get discouraged. I feel like it may take a long time since I have not been bending my knees in such a long time. I'm a housekeeper and I bend over to do all my lower work. Thank God my back is still good. I just wanted to thank you both for all the great advice and all the ides. You both have given me more help than the therapist I was seeing. Let me know if you have any personal advice for my situation. I'm wanting to go back to work soon just in case I need to have my other knee done. I don't want to use up all my FMLA time.

    So glad I found you guys, I did a lot of exercise learned from your vids pre surgery and my knee felt better just before surgery than it had in years. I purchased your knee glide and use it daily to augment my 2 weeks of in home PT. The knee glide may end up saving me surgery on the other knee. I’m making great improvements in my second week post surgery. I also purchased your wall anchors and rubber exercise bands. Also bought the green webbing leg stretch band. I sent my sister in-law who had hip replacement, same day and same doc coincidentally, the link to your videos for hip exercises and a friend who is considering TNR some of the vids I watched pre surgery. Keep up the good work, you make a difference.

    I have had 3 knee replacements on my right knee and non or them were successful. I am in severe pain, doesn't bend past 70 degrees can't ride a bike can't do much of anything pain 24/7 . Never have a 2nd or 3rd knee replacement. I had some of the top surgeons and I spent over $25000 for nothing. My other knee is bone on bone but it is better then the other knee.

    I just had my knee done (yesterday) and the knee and range of motion is limited and the muscles are like bloody rocks right now. Considering the trauma the knee has gone through that would make sense because the muscles lock up in an effort to protect the injured joint, according to my massage therapist who specializes in injuries. I have an office chair at home and plan to use that in place of the wheelchair idea because a) it slides forward and backward on the wheel casters and b) the height is adjustable to suit my needs. Every chair I've sat in so far since the surgery doesn't doesn't fit me because its either too tall or too short. I just wanted to share with that anyone here going through this in the event it will help them. Best of luck on your rehab!

    I am using your knee glider well before my surgery months away. I am wondering how many reps should I work up to and after surgery, how many times a day and how many reps will give the most benefit. I am impressed how well built the glider is.

    • @ralphchristianson
      @ralphchristianson 6 лет назад

      I have been doing 40 reps each night,(three different positions) this is before surgery and I got both legs to even out to 120 degrees. Still got 6 weeks to go and I am really glad I have invested in the knee glider. After surgery I will defiantly increase the time. The knees are arthritic by the way. Thanks very much

    I used a bike mounted to a trainer and lowered the seat a little bit as time went on and it worked good. That was many years ago but now I have become a short track speed skater and need to find a way to increase a little more flex and strengthen the joint as it starts to bend as it has pain. usually after skating for 15 minutes it's not so bad but some of the pain takes power from my stride. Thanks for the video and I'll be watching more.

    Very informative thank you. But I recently had a MCL and patellar tendon repair surgery and Dr had me in a leg brace at no more than 30 degrees for 6 weeks after the op. The brace came off last week but the knee is very stiff and I can feel a lot of pressure inside it when I flex it. It really hurts a lot when I try to bend the knee beyond about 70 degrees using any of your exercises. I lie on my stomach and someone tries to force the bend but it is really painful. Any advice to get more range of motion without all that pain because I dont think I have the tolerance to continue like this.

    I like the thhera ball exercise I showed. I'm using the same technique in a swing I have in my house and it helps a lot. I'm doing this for a long time but I'm not able to bend my knees. Please suggest some fast track exercises to achieve knee bbending.I'm doing couple of other exercises too like lying flat on edge of the bed and performing a cycle motion on affected side,leaving it hang outside ordropping it outside the bed and bringing it back flst on the bed repeatedly. Please help to get my knee bend while I walk. I tried everything possible. Hamstring exercise too lying down on my chest and trying to bend my knee towards my glutes. And I do repetition of 100 to 200each. Pls support and advise for knee bending. Thanks a lot in advance.

    I had total knee replacement 15 months ago, but I ended up getting infection in it. They operated on it again and flushed my knee out, replaced the pad in my knee and then sewed me up and sent me home. All seems fine, BUT my thigh muscle feels like a horse kicked me. I try to bend my knee, but it is extremely sore and hard. Could you tell me what I can do to ease the pain in my thigh so I can bend my knee??????
    Your videos are great and very helpful. Keep up the great work.

The problem that I have now is, if I stand for more than an hour my knees and lower legs swell and that causes a lot of pain. But if I sit and put my legs up, I am much better. If I had to do it again, I WOULD DO IT IN A HEART BEAT. Thanks

    I had total knee replacement 6 weeks ago and progressing well. My knee bend is stuck at 115/116 degrees and they would like me to get to 120 or more. The doctor tells me that a person should get as much flexibility as possible before 2 months because it becomes more difficult after that. He said that I might try taking my pain meds prior to my next PT appointment so that I can push through the pain getting more knee bend. Any other ideas?

  • @cr3237
    @cr3237 2 года назад

    I am 2 weeks post TKR. I had a unicompartmental replacement before, lasted 13 years then failed and I had no more cartilage on the other half of the knee joint. The old implant was removed (and the knee cap was resurfaced) and some bone broke at the same time, so I am in a leg brace to stabilise the joint. I had very good flexibility on both legs post op (I have had both knees done previously). I am finding it hard to get past roughly 80 degrees at the moment. Feels like a lit of swelling and tightness. I am using pain relief and ice but still struggling. I can do the full extension but I feel the leg brace is getting g in the way. I am going to try some of your suggestions and let you know! Thank you for the advice.

    You material, advice and videos are REALLY great. Informative and helpful. I'm looking at a knee replacement and your videos I will come back to as reminders of the therapy involved. More than a bit self promoting - but that's okay as long as the advice is worth it. So far it is. Your down-to-earth, very valuable and humorous approach is wonderful. Watch out for hubris say I and becoming the "famous physical therapists" you wish to be, who turn into internet physical therapist "stars!" Once you move into that realm you lose your soul and the joy of what you do. Just a passing thought on my part.

    Hi Bob and Brad, I had total knee replacement of the left knee December 2018 and then remanipulation in February 2019. I reached the 90 degree mark at my last follow up and was released and next follow up in one year. I go to the gym 3-4 days a week using the sit down bike, leg presses, and thigh and calf machine to help strengthen and build back muscle. Will I ever get past the 90 degrees? Will I ever be able to do a squat? I will try the ball exercise that you have shown in this video. Any other exercises or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi ... my mother had TKR for both knees a year ago from now. She is indepndently walking now but still after a year she still feels stiffness in her knees as well as feels pain in muscles around her knees. She is now 55 and has accute osteoporosis. She cant manage to climb stairs. What excercise do u suggest that can be done at home as she had physio therapy for 15 days after operation and in hospital she was on cpm too. So what excercises can be done at home to remove or lessen stiffness.

    It’s more about mindset and emotions than it is physical. You’ve got to get past it in your mind first.. stop the vicious cycle neurologically. You think and focus on pain too much, and you’ll keep feeling it because your thoughts keep continuing that pattern. Think differently, then you’ll begin to FEEL better, too.

    How hard is it to get your knee to flex after knee surgery? I am scheduled for knee surgery November 15th. I am currently bone-to-bone laterally and although I can bend my knee all the way back, the snapping and popping pain makes me not want to do it often.

      One of the PTs where I'm going did this to me. I'm 73 and it was week 5. He pushed the bend past where I said "ouch" and past "stop!" until I was actually screaming in pain! I nearly vomited. His old excuse was "You don't want it to get locked up." I said, "My other knee was done 4 years ago. Does it look locked to you? There is no need to embarass me on front of a room full of people with torture!"
      I went from 98 to 102°.
      Now I don't trust him and I'm actually afraid to go back!

    Would using a rowing machine after a TKR be considered good rehab treatment when the exercises are encouraged?
    NOT using the pulley, but just putting the operated knee's foot in the stirrup, and rolling back and forward gently as the knee's
    Range of motion will allow, all while the other ( the non operated knee ) foot is on the ground on the other side of the bar controlling the
    Back and forth motion?
    Thank you 🙏🏻

    I have had 13 knee surgeries. Eleven on the left knee mostly because of a history of hyper scar tissue issues that lead to my last (L)TKR to be manipulation.
    Now after working with my PT for 3 weeks I am locked up with my (R)TKR Range of Motion at (65) I have debilitating pain whenever it is stretched even a little (like someone is stabbing you) also at night (mostly) I experience a very painful IT tightness.
    Is this normal?
    How long do u work on stretching it before you consider it to be frozen?
    Being as I have had my share of surgeries I'm not immune to the understanding that rehab comes with pain but how much pain is too much?

    • @eleanormurray3886
      @eleanormurray3886 2 года назад

      Perhaps you are getting too little medicinal pain control? I take some before PT and save the strongest for that evening.

    I had knee replacement 4 months ago. I have done my exercises twice a day, stationary bike 10 min, stretches, bends and extensions and walk the gradual hill outside my home three times a week. It was going really well. In the last week my knee has suddenly become stiff and swollen and not bending so well as before. I was at 125-130 ROM now to 110-115. The quad is stiff and sore. This worries me since I am contemplating the other knee for In a couple of months and will need to have the new knee working pretty well. I can't tell if it's more scare tissue or something else. Any advice would help. Thanks!
