“Everyone should have someone in their life who knows everything.” Yes. Because you’re only as sick as the secrets you keep. Great interview. I really appreciate Zimmern’s story
I am so glad I watched this. I love food and politics. Tim is one of my favorites. I have seen Andrew briefly on tv but will now be following him. Thanks for a great conversation.
omg, this was brilliant!!! boomer here food/nutrition professional with rumblings of needing to get back into the mix! so inspiring...thank you thank you thank you!
Great show! His own story was riveting, but I loved his restaurant recommendation R&O’s. When my husband and I lived on the Lakefront in the 80’s, R&O’s was our go to for great food. Last time I was in NO, the first place my daughter and I went was R&O’s for dinner. He’s right… it a great restaurant.
Minneapolis has excellent art museums and some notable architecture as well as food. My aunt married into the Brennan family in New Orleans. Thanks for the shout-out! Love the music there. I had some of the best food at a gay bar there
I had no idea Andrew Zimmern was so involved in food policy! What a great interview. I learned a ton and will absolutely start paying more attention to his social media. Let's get some more crabbers. Had no idea visas for agricultural workers were so difficult to procure.
One thing in ever hear anyone talking about is how expensive it is to eat truly healthy. To avoid processed, sugary, fat-enriched foods, you typically have to pay in upwards of 3-4x what the “non-food” food costs-it’s been like that for YEARS. So, to say someone will abuse SNAP becaise they’re not buying the right kinds of foods is really misleading. Why do we have such unhealthy and toxic foods on our shelves to begin with. There’s more of that than the kind of food our bodies really need.
the farm bill subsidizes the 'commodity' crops - wheat corn soy rice cotton .. keeping their prices low and using them to create artificial processes foods that are low in price too ..
I would argue that our food supply chain is still way off. I went into Kroger's last weekend, and there was NO MEAT. The only meat they had were packaged meat and fish, that was almost all gone. It was also old. I live in Nashville. What the hell????
True that about us foodies. I live to eat and share that with others. I can’t relate with eat only to live (and it better be cheap) folks but I understand they’re out there.
Yes! Regain control of immigration rhetoric. There is a worker void in this country that needs to be filled and not just ag, but also manufacturing if we want to bring back that industry. Perhaps policy needs to change as well but simply humanizing willing foreign workers and framing them as a net positive to our economy would be huge. Americans that want cheap food and goods, while also producing domestically, don't want their children to occupy a lower economic class than they do.
How about we tell Congresspeople that since their salaries are paid with taxpayer dollars, they can no longer buy cigars or alcohol or fatty steaks or sugar-laden products or snacks because that's all a misuse of the taxpayer's money and we get to tell them what to do with "our" money. I imagine they wouldn't consider that to be fair at all.
You lost me at impossible burgers. It's an accessibility issue. They don't disclose all their ingredients. That's a deal breaker to those of us who have life threatening immune reactions to unregulated food allergens.

Started with Trump. Biden needs to quit pandering to the Maga base bullshit 🙄
Fantastic show! Thank you both so much.
Tim what a fucking wonderful interview. Cheers
Why isn’t Biden dealing with the immigration issue? We need workers!! GW Bush knew this & opened the border when he was TX governor.

Cochon Butcher in the Warehouse District for lunch. Station 6 across the street from R and O's in Metairie for dinner.
