Is The Rolex Explorer II A Sleeper Or Simply A Great Watch?

Introduced in 1971 the Rolex Explorer II never has gotten the recognition that its older brother the Rolex Explorer has. Since its introduction the watch has gone through five bigger iterations - the latest in 2021 when the Explorer II celebrated 50 years as a part of Rolex' collection.
Is the Rolex Explorer II 16570 "Polar" the forever ugly duckling of the Rolex collection or can the watch gain new popularity and maybe become a Rolex sleeper hit?

I just bought the black dial one, was looking for the Polar but I had an opportunity for a NOS black one from 2002 so I bought it. Great exemple of what Rolex used to be: rugged, precise and no BS watch built to last a life time. I do agree it sits somewhere nicely between past and present

I got the same model a few months ago. The funny thing is I convinced my best friend to buy it new 30 years ago, and have admired it ever since. I was tempted to buy one myself, but decided we should not have the same watch. He recently died, and guess who ended up with the watch? I wear it almost daily in his memory. You will love it!

I agree with you on youre predictions. I bought the Rolex Milgauss 116400 like you did. Next on my list is also this beauty. I would like it with the solid endlinks. And even if prices don t go up, they are both still beautifull watches. Good job sir, enjoy
