      @emilyroehrman1333 I remember seeing folks at my local fiber festival with csms set up thinking how cool it was, but that I could never do something like that. And then Felicia started talking about it, and I was like "yeah, why not me too?!"

    I love your enthusiasm for CSM. I don’t own a machine yet but you make me want to buy one and attend a class.

    I was there and spoke with you….I knew you looked familiar, but I’m so bad with faces that I didn’t realize till later that I knew you from RUclips! I’ve attended every Homecoming since 2013, and have made friends from all over the country. I always learn something at every crank-in I go to. I get to attend at least five crank-ins each year, and drive anywhere from 4 1/2 hours to 10 1/2 hours (that’s Cape G) to get there. There are several west coast events that are maybe closer for you. Hope to see you again next year at Homecoming!

      Five crank-ins a year! That’s amazing! It was lovely to meet you Jan! I am still using the cast-on bonnet you made every day now, I love it! Hope to see you again at another event!

    It is so fascinating that there is a, what in essence it, convention for CSM knitting. I always thought that csm is a small niche of machine knitting, which is already a niche of knitting. It's so cool that there is a community for every hobby :)

    • @sweetgeorgia
      @sweetgeorgia  Год назад +1

      Yes! I thought it was a niche of a niche too... but it is a whole other world... related, but different. Yes, I love that there is a community for every interest ...

    Very interesting. During the pandemic when I was looking for easy crafts to keep my antique self busy I watched a history of knitting machine video by the lady who runs the Ewe University channel. Among other things she mentioned that pre-World War II some ladies made socks on circular machines as a work from home job. Anyway one of my interests is Pitman's shorthand - I wrote an article in shorthand for a shorthand group I belong to (not for money - there's only 4 of us in the group) about the knitting machines (I did credit my sources) and one lady who is an active 90 year old said she had known someone who had such a machine pre-War (I'm talking about the UK here).

    • @sweetgeorgia
      @sweetgeorgia  Год назад

      That's fascinating! I remember my mom learned shorthand when I was very young... it was an important skill to have. Yes, I believe there are lots of different makers of CSMs in the UK as well and I wonder how similar or different they are to the one I have.

    Great vlog Felicia! I just got my machine in March and am definitely planning on attending the Erlbacher Homecoming next year. Thanks for showing how you traveled with your machine (and that you opted not to try to bring your table). My BFF has since ordered a machine which she should receive in July. We are both planning on attending Homecoming and will be flying from Reno, Nevada so your traveling tips worth their weight in gold! Meanwhile we are excited to be able to learn together...you're right, it's lonely cranking on your own! BTW it's your fault we purchased machines...loved your other vlogs on your Erlbacher CSM odyssey. Down the rabbit hole we go!

      That’s wonderful that you and you BFF both will do this together! And yes, I worried about the table for a while and I was so thankful to hear I could borrow one. Luckily the machine can be clamped to most any table that is about 1” thick. Happy cranking!

    As a relatively new CSM knitter (I too have a Earlbacher Gearhart Speedster) I have loved following your CSM adventure. I would definitely like to go to ‘Homecoming’ especially now that you have given such a great view of what to expect. Planning to dive down the flat bed knitting machine later this year as well, so I hope you continue to have such diverse content and will also look forward to more on the School of Sweet Georgia! 🧶

    Great job on your video. I was also at the crankin with my antique sock knitting machine. Although my machine .is not an Earlbacher, I was treated wonderfully like everyone else. This was the first big crankin I had been to and I really enjoyed meeting everyone and sharing/learning new things.

    It must be frustrating not to have your machine work at full capacity and not know how to fix it unless you are at an event for someone to look at the machine. How would know how to fix your machine without going to an event?

    • @sweetgeorgia
      @sweetgeorgia  26 дней назад

      It’s true. Sometimes it helps to have someone come and take a look over your shoulder and see the machine. There are CSM meet up groups in different areas that could be helpful to join! Then you could find a group or event that is more local.
