Just so you know... the parts ARE a part of the "fashion".
As an AC vet myself, I can confirm from all the teasers and trailers that you can give it a custom paint jobs with personalized patterns to each part of the mech, apply decals, CUSTOMIZED decals, and emblems... that you can also customize.

I was also a big fan of fashion in Elden Ring, clothing doesn't matter at some point, it just comes down to skill. Armored Core is similar, the running joke is "Blue is good, red bad", but that's just the bare bones system of parts from a visual and technical standpoint. Looks like this game will force you to use specific parts to survive, I have no problem with that.

  • @clideb60
    @clideb60 Год назад +3

To clarify the aiming system: Previous games had a lock box on the screen. Your AC would auto-target enemies in that lock box. In this game, there's a soft lock and hard lock system. Soft lock is like the previous games where your AC will lock onto targets on screen that are in range. Hard lock is similar to Z targeting from the Legend of Zelda series.
EDIT: Customization/fashion: In previous games all parts (including weapons) could be independently colored. Each part had multiple segments that could be painted different colors (ie primary, sub, support, detail). There were also several camo patterns available that could also be applied independently to each part. You also had decals you could apply to your AC. From what I heard, AC6 will have the same, if not more customization.
EDIT 2: ACs are built by several companies, and used by multiple factions including independents/mercenaries. We work for someone known as Handler Walter. We'll be fighting guerillas, other independents, and possibly the corporations as well.
ACs are also highly flexible. You can be a super fast but lightly armored ac that avoids damage to a heavy weight that can take a few hits and shrug them off. A melee/striker that gets in close and personal to a sniper that stays away from the front line. A duelist/1v1 design or an army crushing design that makes it rain missiles. the possibilities are limitless.
As someone who loved this series back in high school, I genuinely can not recall the last time I was this excited for a videogame being released. It's been a long 10 years since the last one, and August can not get here fast enough.

If I can help answer a few questions you posed in this video: this is not Dark Souls with robots. Not on the slightest bit. Anyone saying this have absolutely never played the original Armored Core games. These games are much faster, and you can't just play a single style with any hopes of being successful. So no Strength or Dex equivalent builds. If anything, if you've ever seen any of the Gundam anime series, this game most closely remakes what that series should be.
As for controls, there are both soft and hard lock-ons. The hard lock-on is just like Elden Ring. You stay facing your enemy, and the camera keeps rotating to face them. The soft lock-on is what you get in most aerial combat games, like Ace Combat. If you're unfamiliar, basically you will auto-target anything on your screen, within your larger aiming reticle. Priority goes to whichever enemy is closest, though with the soft-lock, you won't be able to move nearly as nimbly, as you control the soft-lock with the right analog stick.
With that said, do not consider this an FPS-style game. There is no weapon switching, you control your 4 weapons with the 4 shoulder control buttons. You can actively fire all 4 at the same time if you so choose. Every face button is needed for full combat and mobility, that may be a bit way too difficult to pull off with a mouse and keyboard.
As for your role as a mercenary. You are basically a free agent. You work for anyone who pays you. That often can lead you to working for rival corporations from one mission to the next. Most of the other AC units you will encounter are just like you, and the arena system is in place to rank the best. The best do tend to get the more lucrative contracts and reward parts, so that's why there's quite a lot of animosity when you encounter one on a mission, even if you are on the same side at that moment. However, some factions will also employ their own, in house AC units. So you being called to help on missions is a bit of a slap in the face, often resulting in them using you to draw enemy fire while they attempt to complete the mission themselves.
As for AC Drip, you can technically use the most stylish parts you want and still be successful. However, your weapon load out will suffer, because each part has a weight and weight capacity. So with certain builds, you physically will not be able to even function if the weight gets too high for what you can carry. But otherwise, you can fully customize each individual piece on your AC. So have fun with that. The old games had a logo editor as well. Not sure if that will be included this time, but I can see that coming back as well.
Sorry for the super long post, but hopefully that answered most of your questions. I'm super excited for this game. Armored Core is in my Top 3 all time favorite game series. I can't wait for you to experience it

  • @TheTrveMothlord

Fashion core in an Armored Core game is basically playing challenge mode (assuming your build will even function due to energy or weight capacity balancing lol)
As long as you can still move you’ll be able to play. Also ironically in older AC games some of the ugliest parts are the best (such as heads with the best radar and scanning abilities literally looking like a satellite dish lol)

Just want to answer some of your question. Yes the game would prob be good with controller, in a way most of you attack will depend on the locking system doing the aiming for you.
The Fire Control System part will determine how good the accuracy of the lock would be, and each excel at different ranges (short, medium, long) so you have to choose which suit your build.
As for the story, AC has always this theme of different Big Corpos fighting each other for one reason or another, and you are here as a merc to do their biddings. You have no specific allegiance per say, and backstabbing has been a pretty common theme in the series.
With that said, even your fellow merc can be hired to kill you off by either pissed of corpo or just for the hell of it.
For this entry specifically, from what i gather from the story trailer is that your body is sort of in comatose state? and your consciousness or brain is linked to the AC itself.
and this "Handler Walter" promised to give you a "reason to live". I guess it could mean that you are "recruited" by him to do his work, in hope that one day you will be given some freedom of sort.

This will be my first AC game but I did some 3rd grader level of homework and looked up some of the older games.
The thing that has the most influence on your game is the type legs you choose.
    - Bipedal is your standard variety with the most utility.
    - Reverse jointed has the lowest weight capacity but makes up for it in speed and jump hight apparently
    - Quad legs gives you a major boost in stability, allowing you to fire heavy guns like a shoulder mounted cannon while on the move (bipeds have to stop for that), and in this game apparently also give you indefinite hover time.
    - Tank threads give you the same stability buff as quads, but with extra tankyness. From a recent PvP showcase where someone was driving a tank AC, their AP (armor points) were effective double that of other leg type ACs. It also has the best weight capacity.

  • @dagonofthedepths
    @dagonofthedepths Год назад +1

So to answer some questions from an ac fan and stuff that I've seen with that knowledge in tow.
The AC straight up aims for you. as long as enemies are in front of you and within range, you can hit it. The challenge is more on when you pick your shots, how you attack enemies and your loadout. It also lets you focus more on maneuvering and evasion. Like every weapon does varying amounts of impact and damage to targets. If, for example, you equid 2 missile launchers that do high impact and 2 machine guns that do low impact but high damage, you might want to fire all your missiles at the same time to stagger an enemy then follow up with a machine gun barrage to take advantage of the targets moment of defenseless.
You can paint your ac. Honestly, the last AC games went way further than any game in that regard. Like ACV had something like 100 layers under 100 groups that can be applied to each part. Plus you could import your own emblem picture. I don't know if it'll do all that but even AC2 had multiple parts you can paint with a straight up 255 color RGB slider so I don't see why they would change.
With other AC pilots. In just about every AC game, AC pilots tend to be mercenaries first and for most. Even in older games where every AC pilot might belong to an organization, Like Raven's Nest or Global Cortex as an example, they can be hired for the same mission on opposite sides. You can even have missions where you worked with other AC pilots for them to turn around and take a mission to assassinate you or you them. And Raven's Nest will make it no secret you will be expected to carry out a contract if you accepted to kill an AC and it happens to be your best friend or the best AC pilot in the world and your fresh off the block. Whatever our corporate overlords want done.
The is this a souls-like thing is a heated topic. I don't think so. I mean it barrows lessons from souls games as souls games barrow lessons for AC games but they are 2 fundamentally different games.
    Anyway I hope that helped.

If there's ANYTHING that I enjoy (and also find oddly terrifying) is the scale that some far futuristic sci-fi media does so well. Something about a mobile city that can traverse foreign planets is so awe inspiring, and yet so terrifying in its scope. Anyone who tells you that "It's Dark Souls with mechs" is totally wrong. Armored Core is very much a problem solving and pattern recognition game for sure similar to Souls, but their actual mechanics and even how similar mechanics (rare) are implemented are different. Armored Core has never had any default "player lock" like Souls where you turn to face your target. This game has something like that but it's not the primary lock. Those dodge boosts in AC also have 0 invincibility frames, whereas dodge rolls in Souls games do. Armored Core also has a lot of focus on stat tweaking and customization with no character levels to center builds around. Instead, your main loop is hitting a challenge, seeing what might work, then heading to the garage to tweak and customize until you have a mech that feels good and performs well for the challenge you're facing. As for customization, things like part colors and patterns can also be changed to make it visually your own. If you wanna be fast or slow or light or heavy or close range or long range, it's all up to you and it can all work.
As for story, AC has always embraced mercenary protagonists. Corporate dystopias are common and the player is usually a silent mercenary who plays multiple sides of the conflict between giant corporations, rebels, and other factions. This game overall seems to be combining lots of great elements from the previous 5 generations of AC games. It's sad there's no co-op returning but I'm sure it'll still be a huge amount of fun.

Missions have checkpoints with where you can adjust your build midmission. Taking advantage of them won't eatn you top rankings, but you can't expect to S rank each mission on a first try.
And devising a build that will carry you through the varied mission phases without relying on the checkpoints is part of the challenge.

No idea why none of the comments have mentioned this yet but cosmetics is one of the biggest appeals of Armored Core. You can paint literally every single part of your AC (even the lights of each part) separately. Add to it, there is a very deep decal/emblem creator where you can create your own images and put them all over your AC! In fact, the most fearsome PvP opponents are those who have anime waifus painted over their ACs, you just know they play nothing but Armored Core.
Fashion over functionality is a big deal in Armored Core and making a beautiful/stylish/trans-flag AC and making it work with good piloting skills is where the true fun of the game is. I have always made big bright pink Hello Kitty ACs with cute decals everywhere in all of the Armored Core games I have ever played.
The sheer customisation will shock you and I can't wait to watch 5 hour long streams of people just messing around in the garage/emblem creator lol. You're gonna have so much fun! Welcome to the community ^_^

AC is very different than Dark Souls. Rather than Darksouls with mechs this iteration of AC is a mech action game with some souls game influences. One major point of difference is that rather than sticking to one build AC games incentivizes changing builds to suit the missions and battles. Combat is much more frenetic and the gameplay loop is very different.
    There is indeed auto locking.
The choice between controller and keyboard is going to come down to comfort more than anything. The biggest thing to consider about controller is that you can fire all four of you weapons at once meaning both your index and middle fingers on both hands will need to be on the shoulder and trigger buttons most of the time leaving only you thumb for both movement on the stick and hitting the face buttons to jump, dodge, use repair kits. Which could get awkward at times. Depending on your setup and keybinds keyboard could alleviate this.
That said it IS possible to unlock manual aiming later, this option was shown in some menus on some reviews from people who actually got to play the game. And that will change a lot of how you set things up.
For fashion you can do paint jobs in addition to changing out frame parts and you can also have a personalized emblem to display on your mech as well. But that is about it as best as I can tell.
Check out VaatiVidya's video he recently did. It is a bit of a long video but he has a lot of info on the game and extra gameplay footage as he was actually invited to play the game for several hours and got an interview with the games director or producer.

As far as I know after watching multiple demo releases, hard lock is not as strong as you think.
Soft lock is default but you can activate a hard lock. This hard lock has better tracking, but worse accuracy compared to soft lock.
Hard lock can be broken by moving out of range, and is more effective against slower moving enemies. A faster enemies can just avoid shots by dodging, even if your hard locked.
If that was not enough, there is an upgrade that removes lock and gives you manual aim.

All the games you are a mercenary for hire and do work for various missions for all the corporations police forces etc, sometimes you are even given a mission where its for example go disable the security control system causing the security MTs to cause issues , then the next mission its restore control to disabled security MTS , its playing both sides yes, but did you choose a side no. you can play the missions if given multiple choices go for the one that pays the most , maybe go for the easier sounding option , you can even side with a group that you like the name of all are valid choices. a few of the games have had it where you do more missions for a group they might reward you with a free item sometimes its just not free. Sorry for the massive wall of text just trying to find a way to make it condensed without overloading whats being said.

SO While I get why a lot of people were insisting that the game would play better with a controller... I feel like certain changes in AC6 were partially done for the sake of KB/M. In older Armored Core games your mech had a fixed turning speed. Here, not only is that not a problem, there's actually an option for completely manual aiming (and even if you're not, your weapons are more accurate if you keep enemies on-screen yourself rather than using a lock-on camera.) I think it'll play really well with a keyboard and mouse so long as you can work out how to comfortably use four weapons at once.

As far as Armored Core vs. FromSoft's other games... (Long explanation followed by an actual answer eventually)
I think the similarities in From's different franchises were more prominent up until (and including) the first Dark Souls. Michael Zaki really changed things a lot when he made his directorial debut by transforming Armored Core 4 into the most hyperactive action shooter ever created. More specifically, From's first-person titles (Kings' Field and the rest, what I find fascinating is From keeps bringing the same basic stat system back again and again) and Armored Core somehow felt like they shared something, between the similar menu systems, sheer lack of care towards the player, odd "clunky" control schemes and their propensity for making cool games on tight budgets. It was a little how like Bethesda has three different IPs now that are each fairly different but all very obviously Bethesda games.
Even then, though, From has made a lot of left-field stuff that seems like it was partially done for the sake of funding the projects their main team "really" wanted to work on. Even the main team broke the mold with some games like Evergrace / Forever Kingdom.
I really do think Dark Souls 1 is the game that marked the end of FromSoft's "classic" era. DeS was a breakthrough for them, because Japan Studio got them the funding to make their "special sauce" work in a much higher-budget game. Miyakazi understood that making the game not control like ass was important and pretty much used the structure and tone of their first-person RPGs in something that controlled more like every third-person action game since OoT. But importantly, _it retained that structure and tone._ He wanted it to evoke their older games like Kings' Field and older games more generally. It's still kind of slow, lonely, obtuse and full of stuff most players will never find. Dark Souls retained those qualities, made it multi-platform, polished the hell out of it and somehow blew up over the course of a couple years.
Every game since then has felt quite a bit different tonally. Bigger budget, more "epic", faster, more quality-of-life. More lessons from their second-rate action games. DS2 was... DS2, and when the "main dev team" showed up again with Bloodborne, Myizaki was really able to flex his love for fast-paced action games he'd shown off in AC4. There's still a _tiny bit_ of "old FromSoft" DNA left but only because of the ties to Dark Souls, really. I love Elden Ring but it really, seriously marks a transformation into something else, a swansong to the "Souls" era almost certainly.
Armored Core VI, now, is a game trying to reconcile FromSoft's new big budget identity and the franchise's own diverse history. There's little room in there for it to be all that similar to anything else FromSoft has made recently, beyond FromSoft being a developer that now makes big budget action games and knows how to get it right.

I actually played ACFA on mouse and keyboard using an emulator and it was surprisingly nice. Quick turning felt nice and being able constantly adjust your camera while still having every button in reach without needing a claw grip was nice.
Controller is obviously the intended way to play but I don't think KBM will be a bad experience at all. Although I'd add the caveat that you probably want a mouse with extra buttons on the side so that you can map all 4 weapons to different mouse buttons. ACFA generally only has you firing 2 weapons at a time so it was easy to work with a traditional 2 button + scroll wheel mouse

  • @jonathancapps1103
    @jonathancapps1103 Год назад

"is this going to play better on controller or mouse and keyboard?"
It's designed with controller input in mind. You have a weapon in each arm, and a weapon on each shoulder. Default controls map them to the shoulder buttons L1/R1 and L2/R2.
Managing 4 independent weapons, while controlling normal movement, booster jets, camera, potentially additional weapon bays....
You're going to put yourself at a severe disadvantage if you opt against a game controller.

I would not even compare Armoeed Core to a Souls game.
There are similarities of theme in the storylines: fighting for dominance of a ruined land, etc. But they just plat _different._
It's like comparing Nioh 2 and Dark Souls. They _look_ like they would play similarly, to an observer. But they _feel_ comoletely different. Dark Souls served as basic inspiration for Nioh 2's controls and presentation. But they're wildly different games.
Sources that I've seen who have had opportunity to play it have all said that AC6 is its own beast. And if you had to make a comparison to another FromSoft game, they could see some inspiration from Sekiro. Which makes sense, since the AC6 director was lead game designer on that title.

There is little aiming from what I have seen, so in that sense controller would be good, but im still picking mouse and keyboard first because the complexity of controlling the mech seems more comfortable on m and k. I can have all attack buttons on one mouse, firing any weapon I want without stopping to move my camera or giving up other controls, like heal, etc. I don't want to be sat here, playing with the claw grip

idk what these lot of people are that are describing this game to u...but id wager AC is not rreally dark souls but with mechs lmao. this game is mission based and the loop is customizing your AC with different parts to get what u want. ive watched alot of AC over the years just never played it but it really looks nothing like dark souls in gameplay/structure or more obviously aesthetics. its most likely they are talking out of their ass cuz they think its fromsoft then it must be a souls-like game. like youd have to really get deep into it to find any kind of parallels mechanically with souls games. there is no "exploration" like in the souls sense, there is no getting lost in a world and finding a short cut that loops back to a bonfire or grace point, etc, etc.
