- So I went on a long quest researching electric car options, We jotted down our dream features and I kept coming back to getting a Tesla. The only model that really ticked all of our boxes was the model X… but it was way out of our budget! the base models coming at $80,000 However after weeks of searching I found a 4 year old one the other side of the Country that looked pretty perfect. I managed to get approved for financing the car, persuaded my friend Steve to join and we set off on our journey!

Love the friendship between Steve and Louis. Love seeing Steve.
I'm more blown away that you've owned 27 vehicles!!!!
I know, right?! I am 55 years old and I have only owned three cars in my lifetime!
Congrats Louis!!! The range will take a bit to "Settle" and get used to your driving and the fluctuation will settle. A ton of factors play into the "Mileage left" including things like speed (ideal is roughly 40-60 mph with even elevation) Chill mode and Range mode will help adjust the accessories power and even out your acceleration to maximize distance. A lot of people use percentage over miles because of the high swings but i personally use mileage distance because of "old habits". Remember these 2 things: ABC (always be charging.... keeping your car charged actually is better for the car then leaving it for multiple days on end not charging.) and second is to try and keep the battery level between 20-80%... not lower or higher to maintain the best battery longevity. I have owned 3 teslas now and can tell you that you will absolutely love it and will never go back!!! Congrats again enjoy!!!
Lol you outlay all this mess of nonsense then close out with how you love it. 😂
hahahaah Steve and Louis discussing what settings they prefer, and trying to figure out the car is hilarious and adorable. Hearing Louis say "bro" to Steve, takes be back to the old days.
Congrats, brother. You and your family deserve it.
Hi Louis, congratulations on the new car!!! It would be great if you could do a followup video in a couple of months detailing how owning a used electric car compares to buying a used gas car.
I have a model 3 and we did a cross-Europe road trip earlier this year with a baby - such a comfy ride and the Supercharger network is great.
One piece of advice - rarely, if ever, charge to 100%. Keeping the battery between 80-20% will keep the battery in the best condition for longer! We only up the charge limit to 90% for long road trips.
Should do a bro counter I'm sure I heard it at least 300 times
It's fun to watch you discover what an awesome car you just bought! I think you'll find that even if you didn't pay for FSD, it can still steer itself on the motorway. (Autopilot) Just tap down twice on the right stalk to activate it. (but still stay aware at all times and ready to tap the brake or grab the wheel if necessary - it's not perfect)
Keep it on battery percentage instead of mileage for range; have maximum regenerative breaking on using one pedal driving; keep in the habit of charging it more often then not (daily up to 80 to 85%); you will need plan out trips more carefully; no need to get FSD since the free autopilot has adaptive cruise control.
had my Tesla for 4 years. the mileage is all over the place, and really can depend on the route. elevation and heat make the biggest differences. save your sanity and change it to %, not miles. But if you are charging at home, it only matters when you go on road trips, and the map will tell you when to charge. I like to charge more often for short periods. keep it between 20-80 and it will charge faster.
Yay, we bought a Tesla this week too 😊. I hope you're loving it as much as we are!!
I hope you'll still continue the VW Beetle project ❤️
So happy for you, Louis. Congrats on the new car! 🎉❤
Tesla Model X is our go-to family car, cannot beat it. Nice one!
Its just not a safe car for kids when the control arms can snap at any moment. Look up "whompy wheel" its pure nightmare fuel and happened to my parent model X after year 3.
Love that you watch Louis
GLS?

I bought a 2016 Tesla Model X in 2019. Love my car and wouldn't change it! But here's some things I've run into in the four years I've owned her:
* If you're in standard mode you accelerate and the car "shudders", have it looked at! Some of the Model X's had bad struts that need to be replaced. They will warranty replace it.
* Everyone says watch out for the falcon doors but I've never had a problem. The biggest issue I had was with the front windows! The motor they used to power the driver and passenger side windows are notoriously weak. I've had mine replaced five times now (all under factory warranty). Hope fifth time was the charm.
* There's a setting that lets you close the doors with one press of the fob. Do NOT turn that on! Leave it at two presses. The amount of times I've leaned against the car and accidentally closed the doors on me or my wife (because my fob was in my front pocket)...
* Replacement windshield wipers cost $80 USD! If yours are getting old and need replaced, schedule a service! They will replace them for free if it's still under warranty. It's the weirdest feeling, scheduling a service call for windshield wiper replacement...
* Do not fold down the back seats while leaving something in them (like an umbrella). The seats can *lock* in that position and refuse to move until you somehow get that something out.
* Keep in mind when towing, you will easily lose half your range.
Some tips:
* If you get into the driver's seat and press the brake, the driver's side door will automatically close. No need to press the close button. Great when you're getting into the car with your hands full.
What’s giving you the rendering of other cars is the cameras not LiDAR.
Congratulations Louis🎉 Very informative video, liked it a lot. A good review☺️❤
Range estimates on the Tesla included weather, wind, elevation changes, etc. I have found it to be pretty accurate... You can set your display for the estimate or the ideal (I always show the estimate).
We’ve had ours for 5 years and still love it.
Thanks so much for sharing your new to you car experience. Back in the day we bought our first car and drove to Cleveland OH from Chicago Illinois to show Loni's Mum and Pop our new Chevrolet. Arrived on a Saturday morning and drove to Nidagara Falls Ontario. What great memories for a first new car. We love you guys and thrill in your so persona adventures. ❤❗
I'm still watching, but had to pop into the chat to say that Louis' face when he sat in the Tesla was too much joy for my heart to handle! I hope it brings you that much joy for the rest of the time you have it. I'm excited to see if Raya is happy when she sees it!
Beautiful car. I can't wait to see all the fun adventures you go on in her.
Your range percentage remaining fluctuates probably because of the way you’re driving in traffic. You may be adding more miles to your batter with the regenerative breaking throughout your long drive
We love our Tesla Model 3 LR. We would love to get a model Y! Connect your phones to the car with the app so all you have to do is, most of the time just walk up and the car will unlock. If your car is set up to do that, all you have do is put on the brake on and shift by the car in drive or reverse and go, no starting the car. The car wakes up as you walk towards the car. What I also like to can set the car to the temperature you like before getting in the car.
So stoked for you dude, out of Tesla's line up the X always interested me - really cool to see a candid review of the car and that it was in such good condition! Enjoy man!
Neat, new red car car!
In May my daughter and I bought a 2022 Hyundai Venue, it’s red with a black roof. Very slick. She wanted to look at the Ioniq or another make of EV. I said no as it was just one more layer of learning a modern vehicle for me. She does not drive…yet. I am still learning everything about it including the back up camera (frightening) as well as not jump whenever there is a beep beep if a vehicle comes to close to me, and have yet to determine if it has heated seats!
Enjoy discovering your new car.
The back of that front armrest has the a/c for the mid-cabin seats. You are right.... The top slides to give access to the cup holders.
don't look at the miles it's not accurate, use battery %. Also use regenerative breaking a lot so it saves a lot ! Charging is faster when battery is low and also charge to 85% for everyday and to 100% when you do trips!
Only charge to 100% when you drive away immedeately after charging. A 100% fully charged battery tends to deteriorate quicker. Normally you should charge to 80 max 90 percent. I drive my Tesla Model S now for 5 years: I bought it with 382 kms range and now it still has 370 kms. I never charge to 100%, that helps
@@pgapieper he is charging at home so he could just put a limit to some %.
Use the energy app in the car for range estimates, not the "EPA" range indicated at the battery symbol.
Wow, what a great car! Can't wait to see you and the car on a nice long road trip!
Congratulations on the car love the colour the interior looks really smart.
Grab some seat covers for the toddler years with Neo and Cali. Then you can take off later and they’re fresh.
Congrats brother 🙏💯
The rain will reduce your range, extra drag from the wheels in the water. Similar to using more effort when paddling in water compared to solid ground.
The road being wet reduces the range a little
I love Steve, hes OG. Love him since the Daily Vlogs.
Congrats on your new Tesla purchase you'll love it you need to install Tesla Wall Connector 220V 60Amp at your home it charges about 43 miles I have it installed and love it
I'm lucky, I already own my dream car- 1991 Toyota Corolla manual trans. I took my first one, (also a '91 manual) to 634K miles and it still got over 40 mpg. Greatest car in the world.
Love the Tesla it’s great. Hope you and Raya enjoy it xx
12:12 NB: steady motorways is the least efficient driving style in an EV as you don't get the boosts from regen braking.
Louis, you have to do a video when you make your car do the Tesla dance. On your screen, go to "entertainment" >> toy box >> light show >> start show" Then, get out of the car and close the door!
Love to see these vlogs with Steve. Just like the old days! Cheers mate. 👊🏼
Congratulations! I love it!! It's one of the safest cars out there. I'm going for the Model Y.
This journey is just highlighting road conditions can have a lot of bearing on range - rain and water spray a big drag
Ideal/Real mode. I always add 50mi to charging to get to my distance. Remember, the AC/radio/ usb charging eats up battery usage.
Happy for you Louis. Greets from Berlin
27 vehicles??? Woah!! I'm 35 and just bought my third last year, my first time buying a new car after driving my jeep to 198,000 miles.
You should get a level 2 charger installed at home! In the US, it’s a 240v - 50 or 60 amp charger. It would fully charge in 6-10 hours.
Lovely color! I got an Ionic5 - color options are way more limited. Car is great though. Enjoy the X!
I would keep keys in a rfid bag or box when not in use at home as I believe other Tesla owners mentioned someone could wirelessly hack it to unlock the car. Plus you can set in PIN protection for extra security.
Live the colour and I have learnt heaps just from your video about this car. Look forward to seeing more about car after you have had it for a few weeks.
I notice range is reduced in rain. Windshield wipers and defogging seem to drain batteries a bit. Swap battery readout to percentage km isn’t really accurate.
Why didn't you have the dealership show you all the features before you left?
Congratulations Loui, my dream car as well.
Louis, I'm so happy for you. With some of the safety issues Tesla has had, I believe getting a used one is the best choice. And YOU have even worked on and converted electric vehicles. It's perfect for you. Jim Kienzle in Nashville, TN
Very wholesome video! What’s crazy is they’re talking about the model x from a couple years back or so and the newer models are getting crazy! Apparently the model 3 highland is going to be absurd and have 421 miles of range🤯
I love that you got a Tesla. My brother owns one and he loves it. I have a game and I count them on the road like the game of: punch buggy. It’s quite a fun game
I own a Model 3 and it is always a bit pessimistic on the range in the beginning of the drive and then adjusts and gets more realistic
Congratulations on your new vehicle! I just got a 2020 Model S Performance, also red! I’m loving it!
There's a pet mode where you can have the ac or heat on for your pet without the car running if you are going into a store or something that you can't bring her with you
You can also press the brake pedal to close the door. :)
(Genuinely curious).... why is it taking so long to build your home in Costa Rica, if there is money available to buy a new car?
From the last video with Raya, money was one of the things holding you guys back from building the house.
I think the last video was after the car purchase maybe?
She still has to get her visa, and can't travel until she has it.
Probably wrote off the car, as they should.
We didn’t buy the car outright, we’ll be paying it off monthly for years. A house is a much bigger investment and we can’t travel there yet as I’m waiting for a visa and can’t start building until we go back and make our designs, decide where everything will be on the land etc
The range displayed next to the battery level is rated range. EPA (US) rated range is calculated by 55mph, minimal wind, no air con, and one occupant. Roughly 4 miles per KWH. The real world range is mostly less than that. Always use navigation to plan your battery level. DC fast charging for long trips. We love our Model Ys.
I found that the displayed range is not very accurate but the range in navigation trip planner is usually spot on. I think the model x is best family car out there, nothing beats the falcon wing doors when you have kids.
This feels like the good ol' days vlog - love it!
If you check the 'Car' screeñ you can 'Display' "rated" or "typical" range. Looks like you're seeing 'Rated" (by the factory - in theory!!) Set it to Typical and you'll see the real World range in future. Just charge at a Supercharger until you get your own proper charger for home (32A, will charge fully overnight on cheap leccy). BTW optimum speed for lowest consumption on our old Model S is 65 mph.
trial by fires haha. loved it. purchased a model y earlier this year and love it. but i did weeks of research and test drives lol
Congrats! I have a 2004 Chevy Venture named “LOUIS!” 🚗💨
Tire wear is real on electric cars. Make sure you rotate your tires often.
Wire in a HPWC!! Tesla charger at home. I plug in at night and good by morning
Beyond cool, congratulations man!
Louis CONGRATS on your new Tesla X!! Let's toast to it 🥂🍾 wishing you the best it is a beauty...❤
The traffic visualization on the screen is done with cameras. Tesla's do not use lidar.
Love this car DIY on your channel
Can not understand why they don’t come with a spare tire. Hopefully it comes with a rescue package.
Happy for you guys. Cool falcon wing doors for sure. Much love.
The rain caused use of more electrons.
Well I wouldn’t be able to find charge stations where I live in the US, Texas And our power grid is bad so when it’s extremely hot they say don’t charge your car😊 congratulations on the car.
had no idea you lived in my hometown, hope to see you zooming around in ruby!
I have full size chevy truck n can go 400 miles pulling a trailer on a tank of gas. I can drive from Las Vegas to Huntington Beach CA n drive around a.couple days n still have gas. I get 22 mpg
Brilliant car, you must find out how it does the light and sound display, as Jeremy Clarkson showed, it's really impressive. You are going to have days of fun finding all the features.
We owned a Model X just like this here in Norway. It was a 100D from 2017 in red with white interior like this (lovely spec). Best car I have ever owned! It had its small issues here and there, but I could forgive them all because of how amazing it was every day. Swapped it for a Model Y Performance last year after the warranty ran out - and we really do miss those doors. We would have gotten the new facelift with the new interior, but the prices had increased a lot since that time, and it was just too expensive.
12 tips that I can remember on top of my head:
1. You can lower the floor cover down a level in the back to have permanently more space without lifting it.
2. Giving the button on the middle row seats a little tap brings them all the way forward - so you do not have to hold it in.
3. All doors are electric, as you know, and it closes while you tap the break pedal, a small tip on closing the door when getting out is to put your fingers on each side of the front door to easier click the button with your thumb and let go, makes it a much smoother close when it does it by itself.
4. You can active self opening as well - the main front door will then open for you when you get close to the car with the key in your pocket. You have to have the feature for it to open and close with the key nearby to use this though.
5. Turn on a passcode in security, so you have to type it in every time you start the car (to prevent theft).
6. I recommend turning on the % indicator to show range instead of miles, and trust the navigation on charging stops (but you can add charging stops manually as well) - much more accurate and takes away any range anxiety. The navigation will change charging stops automatically based on your battery, as well as if the stops starts to fill up with cars (to prevent lines).
7. I am not sure.. but if you do not have the CCS upgrade with an adapter, get it. So you can use all the new chargers popping up everywhere.
8. Would recommend getting a home charger to get slightly faster charges (you do not need the biggest and best, but it is much better to have say up to 12 hours instead of 48 hours when you just want to charge over night). It's also safer in terms of overheating, fire etc. which can happen if you just use a regular outlet (which is more for emergency situations).
9. Use the app actively - especially nice during winter to preheat the car and melt away any ice etc.
10. The air suspension can be set to remember places (with the GPS) where you need more height, so it automatically can increase when you get to those places if you know of any... like a nasty bump near a shopping center.
11. I assume yours has the upgraded MCU2 (computer) as it is the newer Dual Motor version - it's great when on a ferry etc. to watch Netflix or RUclips. We had to pay to upgrade ours - but It was so worth it for the speed of the screen in general.
12. When on a road trip - the 6-seater is great for storing bags on the floor in the middle between the seats imo.
Forgot some last tips...
1. Camp mode and dog mode in the air condition menu. Amazing features. We use dog mode all the time, and it also shows the temperature with it on on the screen to show bypassers in the car and on your app on the phone.
2. Sentry mode - get yourself a memory stick and use it actively when you leave the car in strange places. It can catch road accidents while driving, and pick up if someone damages your car while parked. This uses some battery though, a few percent every day I believe, so we normally leave that off while at home or when we need to save on the battery.
3. The charge state on the battery will go down a little bit after you parked - do not be alarmed, it's normal for a battery when it goes from warm to cold. It will go back to the same you had when you start driving and it warms up again.
I work for Tesla so any questions come up don't be afraid to reach out and I will help as much as I can congratulations on your model x🎉🎉🎉
How does it feel working for a nazi?
Best car ever. Can’t believe you didn’t watch every RUclips video out there to learn about your car. 😂 The range is never what it says. I spent months watching them before mine arrived. Enjoy
range depend on the driving motorway or country roads
because all miles use different amount of the power
New car & great driving tunes =Louis gets his groove back❤
Congratulations on your new car! Amazing!!!🎉❤
Going to love it bro! Welcome to the Tesla family. Absolutely love mine! 🔋🔌
Congrats Louis !! 🎈 Tesla is a very nice auto , also kudos to Steve being a real good friend wanting the best 4 u & Raya being supportive wife as always !
Congrats guys
Black out the chrome and tint the front windows to match the back
Congrats! One day my husband will get one when they are easier to maintain!
Switch from miles to percentage on your battery. Far easier way to live.
Range will almost always vary a little , because speeds , weather , traffic , things you have turned on , they all effect the battery differently , and so you will have some variance . However it will settle a little once it learns your driving and you learn to drive a certain way with it.
I bought a 2022 model 3 Performance and I love it. The newer teslas, all the chrome is blacked out. This really makes the car look better, especially the red one and the gray on that I have. I don't like the way the model Y and X look. They look like warts or bumps on a log but to each their own. You will never get the milage you want driving at 70mph.
Boy ur kid will soon do one hell of a number on those beautiful white seats lol great buy good luck with it bro hope it fills all the boxes for you and ur family
This brings me back to old-school vlogs with Steve and Louis, the tesla looks like a sweet purchase
Never thought I’d miss seeing the “Louis nod” 9:26 😂
Now, you said you think it’s not accurate. Yes it’s not! The range changes while you drive, because it depends how fast you drive, do you use climate and off course the weather outside! The worst the weather is, the range becomes shorter
Louis, a wife, a son and now a Tesla 🫶☮️💟✝️✡️🫶
We just bought a hybrid after trying to find a charging station in and around Sedona Az.
Is Raya Jewish?
Congratulations brother 💪
