Well Louis, that was a fun introduction to the Aptera! Hopefully you get to drive the Gamma model soon, or better yet one of the Production Intent models that Aptera is in the process of building now. Beyond having fully working solar, the newer models have an updated suspension, front and rear. Which makes the ride even smoother and more controlled over rough surfaces. The display and controls are refined and intuitive, from what I've seen. Plus the PI model has a carbon fiber tub (like an exotic car) which will make the Aptera feel more solid and upmarket. 18:14 What you're saying is incorrect. Three times as efficient does not translate to one third operating expenses, compared to a Tesla. The energy consumption might be one third, but maintenance, insurance, taxes, etc will not be one third. Definitely cheaper, but not three times as cheap.
The wheel motors can sense wheel slip and adjust torque 32 times per wheel revolution, or about every 2.5" of tread travel. Compare with Tesla which can adjust 4 times per revolution. I plan to use mine all year 'round in Iowa.

A heat pump is very expensive to customize for the smaller space, I would think once they start producing, go public and are profitable, they will develop a heat pump.
I think they have mentioned that they plan to do that in the future when they have more resources. They have the production line planned similar to the modularity aproch tesla has, where they can make a change at any time, so as soon as they have a design for the heatpumps and validate they work as planned, they can just run out of the HVAC units (or store the remainder) and swap in the heat pump version.
Aptera doesnt have the money to develop one themselves and automotive heatpumps are not an easily sourced part. 100% it would make sense but i think it will need to wait until the first or even second refresh after production starts.

But for SINKS or DINKS this could be a good solution, heck, at the price it wouldn't be completely out of the realm of having one each (for DINKS) Definitely an interesting car, but with max 2 people and dubious to behavior on snow...it's gonna be a bit limited in usefulness... Still, more possibilities and options are better and will get other car makers (not only Tesla !) to look at where they can improve as well !

It has side beams, and front air bags. You also have to consider the price to own and drive, which is an important part of the value proposition. It gets more than 2 times the range of a Tesla Model 3 per unit of power.
They DID say the solar modules can be replaced/upgraded over time. Even somewhat degraded solar panels could prove valuable in stationary solar power installations. Mine will be a daily driver that is also valuable and frequently employed for road tripping and remote camping!
Aptera is not permitted to use the Tesla super chargers as they have not performed the validation needed. Why not ask them for the actual price given they claim they know how many they need to be profitable but refuse to update the pricing on the website.
Because they are still getting prices on component parts and pursuing cost efficiencies for these. Since each Aptera is majority sourced from suppliers, and the prices of most parts and manufacturing are still falling from their pandemic highs they are reluctant to put up a new price pin at this time. Not everything is a conspiracy or a cover-up. I believe they will do right by their customers. Unlike Tesla did with their Cybertruck pricing. That was a massive disappointment!

My wife and I intend to drive to Death Valley after picking it up and camp. It will have more room and be more comfortable than the tent we slept in when we went motorcycle camping there every year for a decade.
Just waiting for the IPO ✅
Looks like something you'd see in Tomorrowland at Disney
Not a beautiful car, but love the focus they have to build the car as efficiently as possible
Can't wait for my Aptera. The only thing that will make it complete is if they bring down the cost of the airless tires for cars.
Airless tires will have to become MUCH more efficient for that to happen. Hopefully, they will improve with time.
It's not really comparable with any current Tesla as it's only a 2-seater, but then again, Tesla started with a 2-seater and worked their way up to bigger models, so it's early days yet...
QQ - as per Aptera they keeping same battery pack size and increases heights for different range - 70mm size batteries gives 400miles range how 90/120mm size tall batteries gives 600/1000miles range?

It's still huge. Remember, drag scales proportionately to frontal area. Not a hater, it's an amazing machine and a 0.13 Cd is impressive.
Also 3 wheels don't decrease rolling resistance, that is untrue.
@@Moonbow826 How is it untrue lmao, the tyres are the biggest rolling restistance on car.
It’s more efficient than the quite efficient Tesla Model 3 (car) but how does it stack up against other motorcycles/ autocycles?
Far better. motorcycles are actually quite inefficient at speed. Turns out the human body has terrible wind resistance which is why electric motorcycles have such low range.
Interesting - do you have any stats? Drag coefficient is likely worse but remember that has to be multiplied by frontal area.
I think the original point was that he’s comparing an Auto-cycle to a car.
I think Apterra is great but he’s comparing apples and oranges…

I'm pretty sure they can think a bit more and re-organize the internal structure to put one more seat without that much lesser trunk space.
Think about avoiding pot holes in a 3 wheeler....
There is almost as much room between either outside wheel and the center as there is between the two rear wheels on my Gen 1 Honda Insight - straddling won't be an issue.

love it !
What about the high pitched motor whine throughout this video? Is that what it sounds like to the passengers, or was that a result of camera/mic placement?
You are likely hearing motor noise.
Prototypes don't kill anything, just shows something off.
I'm not an ev car person however this one looks neat
It is what 2 years i saw the first aptera wonder how long we still have to wait to be able to get one. This the only ev i would ever buy,
Wish Europe went with the NACS conector, it looks less clunkier than what is used there.
Anyone else notice they forgot to put the license plate back down
Oh, I didn't notice that, but thats probably why they went with the swing design in the production model.
Aptera was "about to start production" when I first saw it in 2010 as an IC engine. I think it's a great product I just have concerns about delivery date.
That was not the same vehicle or company. By 2009, the Idealab appointed CEO had kicked the founders out of the company and abandoned the original plan.. Aptera Corp, founded in 2019 will not repeat that mistake.

It will be in the neighborhood of 400 per hour - perhaps more. We will find out when the PI vehicles are being validated.

Neat, in a Spaceballs kind of way.
Does the Aptera have cruise control?
It can be ordered with the Comma.ai Open Pilot.
But they have not released yet so it’s not a killer
It's not about killing tesla but consumers need more electric options. Aptera is the right vehicle for a good number of people as an affordable electric sports car and extreme efficiency commuter.
@@ccibinel They told their investors 2 weeks ago that without serious additional investments that they would not make it to production...

18:14 What you're saying is incorrect. Three times as efficient does not translate to one third operating expenses, compared to a Tesla. The energy consumption might be one third, but maintenance, insurance, taxes, etc will not be one third. Definitely cheaper, but not three times as cheap.
You are forgetting the solar panels, which will provide over half of the Aptera's yearly kWh's.
Isn't this just a big bike? In one of their fillings they have stated this.
take my money.!!
Good , if as advertised, for non snowy locations
The wheel motors can sense wheel slip and adjust torque 32 times per wheel revolution, or about every 2.5" of tread travel. Compare with Tesla which can adjust 4 times per revolution. I plan to use mine all year 'round in Iowa.
Its seems really crashy. It is better in IRL?
they will do crash test this year for it i ve heard i think before going into production to validate everything is alright.
but ye i d say it will do rather poorly on crashes. it saving points are that it s like a cocoon and it deflects the cinectic energy well + has more strenght structurally bcs of it. it will have some steel reinforcement bars inside which should help.
@@popcopone5172 Carbon fiber is 7 seven times stronger than typical vehicles and the egg shape design better distributes the impact energy. They have simulations that show it will do just fine in the crash test, but nothing beats doing it for real.
That was my thought as well. Are they airbag equipped? But, oh well. $hit happens. At least it's shaped like a casket. That and getting it insured in most states might be an issue.
@@richritter They have airbags for the driver and passenger in front. No side airbags though.
It's not a "production car" until it's produced.
tesla does allow to repair minor things, they have a service manual which they rent
Really like to see heat pump in it for the hvac
350 MPGe is not efficient enough for you?
@@ccibinel I wonder if I can exchange my 2013 LEAF heat pump in for their resistance heater. Not as efficient as the one they will eventually engineer, but it would increase my efficiency in our N. NV winters.
But which model 3 trim? The guy in model 3 could just purposely go slower lol
I like it, but it will NEVER be a Tesla killer - most people don't want to ride in a car that looks like that.

On of the last videos I saw of Louis is he was hanging with Jacksgap and he got LASIK
you should watch again your video before publishing, a lot of editing mistakes here and there, and also sound mixing between the two mics should be improved, but great subject nontheless!
With the covers on the wheels, the low front AND the 3 wheels I wonder how it's gonna do in winterseason....unless it's only for sunny places (for the solarcells)
The comparison with the Mod 3 won't do much if you're more than 2 people in your household. Hell, you probably can't even bring your dog unless it's a small one without any problems...
But for SINKS or DINKS this could be a good solution, heck, at the price it wouldn't be completely out of the realm of having one each (for DINKS)
Definitely an interesting car, but with max 2 people and dubious to behavior on snow...it's gonna be a bit limited in usefulness...
Still, more possibilities and options are better and will get other car makers (not only Tesla !) to look at where they can improve as well !

Such a light vehicle, yet still it is heavier than a tesla model 3???????
Question; does it have side impact protection beams and airbags? Price please?edit;@$30,000 to $48,000 it puts it out of the market, maybe if they sell to a Chinese company that price will come down! Only the Chinese can make this into production and MAKE MONEY.I wish Aptera ALL THE LUCK IN THE WORLD, may they survive.. " Concepts are easy, mass production and profits are hard", Elon Musk. ....
Cheers Mate🥰 from 🇨🇦
It has side beams, and front air bags.
You also have to consider the price to own and drive, which is an important part of the value proposition. It gets more than 2 times the range of a Tesla Model 3 per unit of power.
WOW
Oh great. Hype a vaporware car .
Please no yoke on the production model 😢
What they do nit tell you is the solar panels lose efficiency over time. A decent vehicle for short drives or maybe a city.
Rocks last forever, buy one of those
What you do not tell us is that, even without solar, you can plug it in and charge it up for a fraction of other EVs. 🤷
Or long drives. Good point - efficient
They DID say the solar modules can be replaced/upgraded over time. Even somewhat degraded solar panels could prove valuable in stationary solar power installations. Mine will be a daily driver that is also valuable and frequently employed for road tripping and remote camping!
Maxeon, the maker of the solar cells has a 40 year warranty on the ones they sell.
Aptera is not permitted to use the Tesla super chargers as they have not performed the validation needed. Why not ask them for the actual price given they claim they know how many they need to be profitable but refuse to update the pricing on the website.
Aptera is the reason that the NACS standard even exists, and Elon gave Aptera permission 6 months before Ford.
Don't need it
Because they are still getting prices on component parts and pursuing cost efficiencies for these.
@@jeffcarlton3590 But they can't honestly publish a break even point with the missing info you listed. Another example of Aptera fraud.
