I've known this for a decade but still watched because...JAY IS DA BEST
It's sad Jay is using this dumb audio for his video. So annoying and cliché. Hate this song/melody
SamE
@@Thickcurves i like it, its nostalgic
@@Thickcurves dads are allowed to use that
goofy background music
I will henceforth name all my new drives “Jay Is Da Best”
Mine already say that!!
LOL
Hacker be like: huh???
It is required by law
I love that they're doing shorts. Probably a good way to address some of the questions people have
it's worth noting it might also pop-up a message to "initialize disk" and a choice of MBR or GPT. Unless you have a special legacy system, you'll definitely want to select GPT. From there, follow the video.
thank you.
bro thank uuuuuuuuuuu soooooooooooooo much i got so scared
this didn't show up for me :/
what if nothing pops up and there is no device to have a black bar over it 🫠 I am so stuck
i no no@@sotiredlol
I remember freaking out during my first build lol this would have been so useful 😅
TY! THIS! is what shorts are all about. So sick of creators posting a regular video and then peppering my home page with two or three shorts using content from that video. Great job Jay.
Yeah, no bs straight to point
Jay and Linus are the reason im into pc building today! Love this channel
Great short!! better than 10+ mins video for a simple fix (setup) :3
Just built my 1st pc and your videos helped me through it all. So THANK YOU so much
I work on a call center. I get at least 3 calls about this a day. Might have to start sending this video
what if my drive is not there
inb4 Jay is Da Best!
For those who have encountered the same problem as me. I thought my m2 was broken, bought a new one but it wasn't recognized by the diskmanager BUT it was shown in my BIOS. Fix was go to Device Manager and look for your Storage Controller. IF you find AMD RAID Bottom there, deinstall this driver so the Windows driver reinstalls. This fixed my problem! Hope this helps other unlucky people the many hours it took me to figure that treasure out! :)
I have been stressing about this all day.
You are like my digital Qui Gon Jin.
What if the drive doesn't show up in disk management? I have several drives that power on and spin but disk management won't see them no matter if I use different SATA cables
SSD not compatible
Do more of these Jay, it's all useful stuff for new builds and setting up windows
Simp
I remember when I learned about this and found out how to partition a drive 20 years ago. I felt so smart around my friends lol
Finally a actually good person that gives tricks and not basics information! (I didn’t know this because they appear but this is great just in case)
That happened when I smacked a 2tb large Crucial P3 onto my Motherboard.
The Partition Manager was my first Option to check if the Nvme has been recognized in general when I saw the Black "unallocated" bar.
You can also select multiple drives and put them in the Dynamic Striped layout so you can have multiple smaller drives acting as one big unified drive. This acts more like a basic RAID 0 setup so be aware that if data loss occurs on one drive, you might not be able to recover the data from all of them.
I've been doing this wrong the whole time, I named my storage drive 'Thicc Boi' and not 'JAY IS DA BEST' lol
Quick, straight to the point, excellent quality!
Thumbs up, awesome job!
This actually just helped me figure out something I didn't know how to figure out on my computer for over a year so thank you Jay!
Jay doing God's work. Now I don't have to do this for my brother in 3 weeks. Lol
really appreciate this man, short straight to the point which is perfect for someone who understands enough about computers but not enough to be sure 😂
heh, up and running in no time. So I went through the experience recently buying a second SSD drive. My first one had a split partitioning, 500GB for the boot drive and the rest for applications. After getting the second drive (which was easy to set up doing exactly this), I wanted to restructure the partitions on the first drive, 50/50 split.
After moving some apps from the old drive to the new one, I shrunk the old drive's Apps partition down to 1TB. Went to expand the boot partition up to 1TB, except there wasn't that option. Because the unallocated space on the drive had the Apps partition between it and the boot partition. In order to expand a partition, the unallocated space has to be connected to it.
There's a few third party programs that allow you to move partitions around in the physical space of the drive. So if you need to do this, they are easy to find with a simple google search, and you can get it done with free options. Don't pay for it. Definitely something that ought to be included with Disk Management already.
Named mine Jay is Da Best, like a man naming their newborn child after a kind stranger saves their lives one afternoon on a lonely road.
I have had a 1TB M2 sitting in my computer for months now not knowing why it wasnt showing up and honestly just let it go. This video literally told me why it wasnt doing anything so BIG THANKYOU! ❤
Super helpful and quick, thank you!
Quick, simple, and to the point! Thanks man!
I Bet over 100 people will actually name their drive Jay is da best 😂😂
I just installed a new nvme yesterday for more game storage. Apparently, I had to update the bios. Turns out that old bios with newer ssd cause being stuck at the splash screen.
I would recommend checking and updating your BIOS anytime you install something or make changes in your PC.
Boot into safe mode and restart your computer
Thank you!
Thanks Jay. I always can find answers to my questions on your channel.
You could also right click on the start button and then click "Disk Management"
I just used this to fix an old external hard drive I've had for a few years. Works as good as new now! Thank you for the video, glad this appeared in my recommended feed!
Thank you Jay! I just built my first pc and I have 4 storage locations but only 1 would show. This is exactly what I needed! 🙌🏾
A short with actual good information, these are rare....
Thank you for the instructions.

its 2023... this and your watching a tech youtuber if you did not know this 10+ years ago you really are not watching these videos to again any kind of knowledge
@@bmomosaik Did you wake up one day and just assume that the world hates you? Relax ever so slightly, I know a lot about tech. But sometimes we forget things or find things useful. I see in your recent comments you have an awful amount of hate against Jay. Maybe you should disassociate from the internet for a while. All the best on your therapy. 👌🏻
Thanks! Never had gone through this so was confused! This helped a ton.
Good short so many people gonna need those advice
Dude! great short on a specific topic that most people don't know. Thank you!
This video is good if the pins on whatever is making that connection to the Hard Drive is in intact, I had once a laptop that needed something very particular in order to make that connection but it was missing some pins, essentially I had to replace that item and suddenly everything was back to normal. So yeah, this video isn't the only troubleshooting idea that should come up in your head, check your hardware as well and make sure everything is intact
I wish the data loss I just had was because something simple like that. Anyway, once again, great video and keep them coming! 2 Billion views, here we go!
Windows update and gptr are the main culprits. Go back to MBR and it'll stop it.! Love how Windows condemns a drive when it's own updates is the real culprit...
Hello Jay and the guys as always a wealth of info on how to do things the right way thankyou for everything you do/create and post keep up the great work
I don't know when Jay decided to do these shorts, but I kind of like it 😅
Good info. Had to look at a friends new build and his disk wasn't showing in Windows, but it did show on UEFI and disk management. This was my first time running into the Storage Pool problem. Just had to delete the pool and everything worked and showed as normal after that.
my hdd that i use for bulk storage(because its cheaper that way) i had to make it part of a storage pool as windows calls it to make it work which kinda makes it easier later because when i add a new drive i just add that one and it is still under the d drive from what i can tell
In the first screen of the window that lets you assign the letter, you can change how much space will that drive will use, it is in mb and to get gb, put in a multiple of 1024 in that area
Literally looked it up everywhere and people had 20 minute long vids lol, this Short was quick and easy
we need to have jay makes shorts out of all the usefull computer tips
If you haven't initialized the disk either you'll be notified, if you do so choose "GPT" instead of MBR
Thanks, Jay. That's actually very helpful to know for future reference.
I saved this and have used it a few times already, super helpful thank you Jay.
I named my new drive Jay is da best, then reboot. My pc exploded!!! Dang U Jay! U owe me TwoCents, Jay, JayTwoCents... hahahaha
Thank you so much❤
My bios detected the m2 disk before and now it works.
Love this kind of info quick hit!
Allocation size does matter especialy on NVME , format a drive with 4kb then one drive with 64k , the 64 one will be way faster overall altho it will waste a little space on files under 64k
So I have a question… I installed a new NVME drive the other day, and it’s working fine as it should be, but for some weird reason the drive icon shows as a disk instead of the usual drive icon. I’ve checked everything and it’s configured the exact same way you did in this video. I’ve configured tons of drives over the years and I’ve never had this happen before. But like I said, it works fine, speeds are also fine..
I just did this last night but with an external hard drive. Thank you! Got 4TB external storage to finally use!
It also can ask if you want GPT or MBR.
If it's not an old system with a drive that is less than 2 TB (MBR partition cannot exceed 2 TB), and you don't need backward capability (like Windows XP), choose GPT.
Thanks Jay that really helped out a lot You're awesome keep up the good and formal videos
Just done it thanks Jay you really are DA BEST
Thumbs up for the Rockman wallpaper! ❤
Wonderful. Thank you
I have an issue where I had drives already installed, but I installed an NVME drive and now the drives that were previously installed are missing. Been Googling and trying solutions for hours now. Gotta love Windows!
Just built a new computer yesterday and was having this issue with my second drive. Thank you so much!
jayz's short clips are so pleasant
Jay is the best confirmed
thank you once againg jay for a quick late night fix u the man
Thank you Jay!
Great tech tips!
Super quick and helpful!
Thanks Jay!
That's a nice simple short for the scrubs well done
I am so grateful for this ❤
This was so helpful!
Thank you, and God bless you 🙏
i installed 3 m.2 drives in my new comp. The 3rd one never showed up. I said f it and went on with life. Then I saw this short and within a minute I have my 2rd drive. Thanks jay z
Thank you so much ❤
I had to initiate the ssd before I could make a new simple volume. Great quick guide nontheless!
Yeah he skipped that step lol
Awesome, this helped! Thank you
Yes more clips like this this is the way in my mando voice***
Thank You so much ❤
Thanks a lot for this, Jay. Ur the best!
Just installed an NVME drive, good to see the algorithm trying to be helpful but being a tad bit late at it.
Actually never knew this, just worked for my hard drive thanks
Instructions unclear - I have a volume called "Jay is Da Best" :)
Remember when you had to put the floppy disk in the type in fdisk and then do the partitioning and then you could format? I remember when I bought my 1st computer in today's funds it would be right around 18,500.00. The specs were insanely good for the times. It was a 486 dx266 no math co-processor.
Yo bro, you are the best. I couldn't find anything and then you helped me out. It actually worked thank you
This is waaaaaaaaaaaay more useful than people realize.
Say if you install an NVME but want it to now boot windows. How do you copy windows over from your current C: Drive to the new NVME??
Thank you so much.
Gotta drive related question for you, Jay (or anyone for that matter):
I'm running out of space on my one NVMe, so I'm looking to add one just for games. My motherboard (Asus Strix B450-f) has an extra M.2 slot below the graphics card, but the manual says if populated, the PCI-e slot will be reduced from 16x to 8x (running an RTX 3080). Will this drastically affect my performance or should I just get a 2.5" SATA SSD?
Love the channel!
I would just get a SATA SSD instead of dealing with that hassle, even if your current GPU doesnt have any issue it is possible the future one will and I would think it is more likely that you will upgrade the GPU more frequently than the motherboard. You very likely won’t really need the speed anyway, the biggest uplift with SSD is the smaller reads and writes and not the massive ones you would need to do to get to 1+ GB/s speed. If you needed the higher speed then you can use your NVMe specifically for that.
Thank you
This helped alot, thank you!
for me it doesn't show the new SSD I installed and can't use the wizard thing since it's not there to be selected
I still do the pea method even on newer Ryzen CPUs, but on newer Intel ones, I put a line of thermal paste on the middle along the entire length of the CPU. Never had a problem.
Should do a video on recovering a partition table using DMDE. Tool makes it really easy. For some reason I’d not been able to narrow down windows 10 did not like my 3900x and all Sata drives would lose their table by becoming corrupted on reboot or from updating/entering bios. Just randomly started happening. Since I installed a new nvme, 5950x it’s been fine. So probably the cpu. Wonder if it’s under warranty still since that’s the only thing changed the could be capable of causing it.
I love JayzTwoShorts!
If its a brand new HARD drive you should NOT use quick format, doing a full format will increase speeds when using it. This does apply for spinning rust, i don't know if it matters for SSD's (my first thought; for SSD you should use quick format only)
