This is done to help the band get the timing of the song right, and to act as a rough draft so the engineer knows how the final vocals will fit with the actual recording. It leaked a few years ago along with other Nirvana multitracks(the audio in the video is mixed by somebody from multitrack stems). Also Lithium (Alt Take leaked). The source is not precised, but people say it was around the time multitracks was being researched to use in Rock Band game, and somebody made himself a copy.
To add, nearly every Nevermind track have many alternate takes with scratch vocals. That's how they were doing it. Record many versions, compare. For example Butch Vig said he took vocals from Drain You first take and put them into the final version as background.
His voice sounds like he's really tired, in my opinion that + the less "echo-y" guitar makes this have a more unique feel that the final one doesn't have. I like it better.
