I have been doing the arm exercises about twice a week for a few months and am beginning to recognise the slim firm upper arms of my youth!I am 82! Arms somuch firmer.
I must have done this routine one of the very first times I came across your channel. I hit the like button but didn't comment. I've rediscovered this little gem and find that this was a wonderful routine. I'm so much stronger than I was when I first attempted this routine working your well thought our exercises for seniors. I love working with weights and I've mastered seated push ups. I can actually do many more than 10! So, a belated BRAVO and thank you for this exercise routine, Mike.
Fantastic arm workout! I could feel it in the back of my upper arms shortly afterwards. I’ve started out with 3 lb dumbbells. Any suggestions as to when I can move up to my 5 lb and then 10 lb ones?
Diagnosed with myositis with mitochondrial dysfunction. Just out of hospital 2 wks ago and so weak in arms/shoulders and hips. The weights are too heavy for me to lift even to head level and hope doing the arm movements will be good enough until I can hold weights. I already do leg and hip exercises using my walker and kitchen counter but was discharged from hospital before we could start upper body exercises. This video is the right length for me not to be too exhausted when done. Thanks.
Thank you. I have discovered your videos a fortnight ago. Due to the lockdown in Delhi, India the hydrotherapy section at the hospital I visited, has remained closed. I did try attending yoga classes online but the instructor would expect us to hold a position for nearly 4 minutes. The muscle pull left me dore at many places
Thank you Mike for your wonderful video . Iam lean and thin and 6 ft 2. tall. Iam 68 years and do yoga for 45 minutes every morning. With your illustrative video Iam going to start using Dumbbells and practice to strengthen my arm and body muscles. Very easy to follow your instructions. Great instructor. Thank you.
Forgot to ask you about weights IV been doing a senior workout three times a WK. And upping weights to five lbs. With the strength training part, for arms but they're flabby. IV been doing a year
Hey D Lynn, You're welcome! 🙂 Yeh, this exercise is difficult for those with shoulder troubles. Stick to the other exercises and for the lifting above the head, you can try 'shoulder flexions' instead (found here: morelifehealth.com/ul-exercise-library). Do this without weights. Only lifting as far as you feel comfortable and never push into pain. 🙂
Thanks so much, Mike! You actually make this fun! Looking forward to getting stronger so I can try more of your workouts. But how do you know when to give us advice e.g. keeping good posture, arms straight as we’re going along? Kind of like you’re in our living room. 😄
I bought some new 'dog bone' dumbells as mine were large and cumbersome ....an awkward shape. New ones much easier to use. I now have about 6 or 7 of your exercises sets that |I alternate ......so doing each set about 2/3 times a week. Many thanks.
Nice video. Thank you. I’m 6’6” and not new to training. What weight were those hand dumbells? I want to be more aggressive. I’m 71 and will have open heart surgery in six weeks. What weights can I start with?
You are very welcome Trish. Start slowly, perhaps twice a week and once you feel your fitness increasing, you can add additional days. Always listen to your body.
Thanks for teaching systematically. The scroll can be placed some what lowerthe screen.Because we are unable to see your legs while imitating your movements. Once again a big thanks
I m long time looking for this kind of excersis thanks for u. U explain very well n as well as u gv us opportunity so v can do with u once again many thanks
Hey Alicia. You're welcome. Yes the exercises will help. You'll notice improvements as you become fitter and stronger. The deep breathing we do helps with the lungs also. Slow and steady with it all.
Hi Mike I am 77 have been doing your other exercise routine. Your chair triceps exercise is causing my wrist to be sore. Can you recommend an exercise for my triceps , which use less push on my wrists but still gets the job done ( Until my wrists get a break) THANK YOU Austin
Hey Mike! Does the wall pushup also exercise the triceps? If yes, what is the best position for the arms when bending your elbows? In other words, should the arms be moving in a horizontal direction or vertical?
Will these excersises make much difference to arms that are flabby between wrist and elbow. If you keep doing these how long before you may notice a difference. At least I am doing them. Thank you
Yes, you should notice an all over arm tone Sharyn - it will vary for each individual although the key is consistency and to keep at it for the best results. Let me know how you go - I look forward to hearing how you progress :)
Can you please guide on what would be the weight of the dumbells. My mom is 75 and I suggested her to see your video and do the exercise. But how much weight it should be? OR should I suggest her to lift two 500ml bottle or 250ml water bottle. Please advice. Thanks.
I am unable to use weights due to cervical disc herniations. Is there something you would recommend I could use instead? Also if I don't have a chair with arms, what could I do instead of the last exercise? Thanks!
Thank you Mike, these exercises are just what I wanted (and need) . I am currently just doing them in the morning; is this sufficient or should I do them more frequently?
Mike, I don't have flab, I just have weakness. My upper arms ache when I use my up-right walker. Will this exercise help me and if so what weight DB should I use?
I am not Mike but I am 67 and can assure you this simple workout will do wonders for you( been doing this for decades)do the ones you can with light db, 3lbs 5lbs 10lbs, please just start,, but take it easy and get a day or two of rest between workouts.Best of luck.
This has been answered well above John.. Yes it will John! Also if your handles are too high on your walker, your arms will be in the wrong position causing arm fatigue. Walker handles should be set to the height of your wrist crease
I have a question. I don't have convenient access to a chair with side arms that would work for the 3rd round exercise. I was thinking an alternative is using the seat of the chair and doing the squats. Would that achieve the same results?
Hey Bette, I think I understand what you mean... Bringing your bum off the chair and dipping down, with your arms on the end of the chair? If you're able to do that, then yes that is an effective way to target the same areas.🙂
I am using 1'5 kilo weights that are larger than yours.I am struggling a bit but do not know why .Pretty fit on the whole at 82 so it is a mystery. Any ideas. With thanks.

For a senior citizen like me, aged 74 years but somewhat thin, how much should be the weight of each dumbbel? Thanks. Will wait for your advice l
Start light and build on it Anup. around 1kg to begin. If too heavy go lighter. If too light, you can increase it.
@@MoreLifeHealth Thanks. Will do as u suggest.
I love these videos

Can seniors do these exercises every day with 2 or 3 pound weights?
Thank you Mike, these exercises are just what I wanted (and need) . I am currently just doing them in the morning; is this sufficient or should I do them more frequently?
Yes each morning works Donald! No need to do more than this to get the arm benefits! 💪
Is this o.k. if you have DDD? Thank you!
Are these safe to do for people with prolapse?
Mike, I don't have flab, I just have weakness. My upper arms ache when I use my up-right walker. Will this exercise help me and if so what weight DB should I use?

I will be doing this as soon as I buy me some weights.

Three times a week. Day in between to allow for recovery.
Thanks. Hoping it does the job for my horrid crepey arms
can you advise weight of dumbbells to be used
What weight dumbbells please?
What is the best weight of dumbbell to start?
Start lighter Karole. 0.5kg - 1kg (1-2lbs) .. Get used to the movements and build up the weight gradually.
Hi mike my name is Yvette, how many time a day do can I do this exercise.
Once a day is more than enough Yvette. 3x a week. If it's too easy you can increase the weight
❤

When you say struggling June, do you mean the weights are too heavy? Start without weights or lighter weights.
Yes.A bit too heavy at 1.5 kilos.BUT after a few more days I was improving! Thank you.@@MoreLifeHealth
