Just replaced my non-responsive display on my Pixel 2 using this video. Phone had tactile and audio feedback. Perfect demonstration. Ordered part from Amazon. $60 including pry tools and drivers. Powered down using power + volume down for many seconds.
The biggest pro tip here is to use a playing card and adequate repeated heating to cut through the glue. Anything else has very high risk of damaging the oled on the underside.
Just broke my screen (protip, a slight fistbump by a 35lb kettlebell will do that) and hoping that the screen replacement will at least allow me to recover some data I didn't before it broke (protip 2, always back up your bitcoin wallet keys).
RWR, I'm doing this replacement right now, I purchased the tape and glue you linked. I'm a bit confused with the huge roll of double sided tape, as I'm not entirely certain how it should be used. Do you have another video that shows a similar process to help give me an idea?
+Jacob B there are some on eBay but they are being sent from China. The ones in the US are overpriced for this reason at $250+. I would highly recommend waiting if you can. I wanted to add on that a company called Injured Gadgets has the part in stock now. At $144, it is a reasonable price. Hope it helps! www.injuredgadgets.com/lg-moto-other/others/google/lcd-display-touch-screen-glass-digitizer-assembly-for-google-pixel-2-black
+Eric Roos to save time, I left out when I added the adhesive. I would assume that the phone is not water resistant after replacing the screen, but there is adhesive and glue out there that claims to be waterproof. I would assume that the glue would make the phone water resistant again, but unfortunately I do not have the funding to test the glue or adhesive. Maybe if I get a hold or 2 or 3 Sony Z phones, I may be able to test this.
The adding the adhesive part is, in my opinion, important. I have no idea what kind or how much to put and where etc. Please reconsider excluding such steps in your future guides.
I do not want to guide people into using an adhesive that may or may not help perserve the water resistance because I cannot test whether or not the phone is still water resistant. With this said, 7 or 8mm double sided tape should do fine. The one I use is from Tap Plastic, but not everyone has a Tap Plastic around them. Again, I can't afford to test whether or not the phone will still be water resistant after the repair.
Real World Review yeah but you can still add it on the video just say do this at your own risk since you don't guarantee it will protect against water. Just some constructive criticism.
This is true. I will make sure to add it into videos in the future (I leave it out to save time, but I have changed my future videos to have the adhesive installation, but it will be sped up for people that don't need it). As for location of the adhesive, just place it when there adhesive was when you pulled off the screen. I have also learned that the microphone is located next to the front bottom speaker, not on the bottom of the frame near the charging port. Thanks for the comments though, it really does help. I'm still learning this RUclips think lol
And it would be really helpful if you can provide a link for purchasing a display for 2xl , as I broke my screen I am looking for a cheaper way to buy one
Not really, unless the screen is already broken. Cause if it's already cracked, just use more force, just make sure to be careful because razor blades can break when doing this, also if the screen shatters more.
I kind of scratched the glass on my Pixel 2xl badly, the touch and all works absolutely fine but its scratched like shit. Any option of just getting the glass replaces rather than getting a whole screen replacement?
Not sure how to do that without unplugging the battery. You can restart the phone by holding the power button, but if you can't see anything on the screen there isn't much to do to power it off other than let the battery die.
I mean, can you tell me what I have to buy to fix my Google Pixel 2, it's his problem that I turn it on but the screen is all black but if I say "Ehy Google" he answers me but the screen is black
I recommend putting some waterproofing glue around the screen where the old adhesive was, and then put some around the front speaker grills. Those seem to be the areas the Google/HTC put waterproofing adhesive when dealing with the screen.
Thanks for the video. Can you tell me where you get a replacement screen? My sons lcd is broken and screen is black liquid now. The repair shop wants $300 which I find to be absurd.
Yeah that seems like a little much, even adding in the storefront markup. When we do them in store, I believe we charge $225. The price is still steep at $150-$175 for the part, but still, $300 is a little much. These screens go in and out of stock, but here is a reputable seller in the US on eBay - rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F132423288390 Hope this helps!
Hi I replaced my screen but the selfie camera is different now selfies are blurred. Maybe the camera have a film in the new screen and really I didn't check if have a film I don't know whats the reason? What do u think
It is possible there is still a film covering it. Also make sure you did not place any adhesive over the camera, because that will make it looks blurry as well.
Dust or fingerprints may have gotten on top of the camera lens which you should replace it, or you may have gotten a fingerprint on the glass on top of the lens
+The Unevers since I didn't ruin the adhesive, I was able to stick it back on there with the adhesive it came with. If you're replacing the screen, especially if the glass was broken, you NEED to replace the adhesive too.
@@RealWorldReview Oh boy, this is very confusing. based on the video it looks like you don't even need to replace the adhesive. I took off my Pixel 2 screen per this video and found out the only problem was that the connection with the screen was loose. Can you advise whether it might be sufficient to re-head the adhesive and have a tight case that goes around part of the screen? will my screen fall out of the phone one day???
@@RealWorldReview blah terrible news but thanks for the reply. I don't need it to be waterproof unlike the princesses in the rest of this thread, but I don't want to be nervous that my phone's going to fall apart! Thanks for the prompt advice, anyway!
So question about the screen. We got a screen replaced on my gfs pixel 2 xl and now all of her front facing camera pics look blue. Could that be from the screen replacement we got?
+Wesley Bridges That is very strange! There might be a piece of plastic covering that might have needed to be removed before the screen is replaced. Feel free to send me some pictures of what it looks like on Twitter, I'd love to help fix that issue!
I have a Pixel 2 XL and only my screen is cracked. I am pretty sure my (LCD?) is fine and I just need a glass screen replacement. Found one online for about $70. Looking through your comment section people are saying stuff costs hundreds- so am I likely being scammed or is a glass screen less expensive to replace than and LCD or what?
Yes, because 1) glass only repairs on the newer OLED (and especially pOLED) screens are extremely difficult to do if it's your first try and 2) the glass can be found on eBay for roughly $40 USD. I recommend replacing the display and outer glass all in one piece, but it can be very costly. The screen sells for $150-$170 depending on the vendor. Feel free to message me on Twitter or Instagram for more info about the repair. I plan on having a repair video for it up in the next couple of weeks.
Real World Review I see. I've been looking up glass only replacements everywhere and I can't seem to find any- I'm assuming this has to do with the difficulty (and I assume risk of scratching the LCD)?
On eBay look up "replacement for Google pixel 2 xl front outer screen glass" and it should pop up. Again, I don't recommend this method. You don't have to worry about scratching (the loca will seal up most scratches) , more about breaking the OLED panel, which is very possible when trying to separate the glass and display.
You can just do the same thing just without heat, but you risk breaking the OLED. If it’s already broken, just be careful of the glass flying up when letting up the screen. But I highly recommend a heat gun, especially since they’re like $10-$20 at your local hardware store
@@RealWorldReview OK guess I will have to buy one cause the screen is not broke ,I need to replace the battery. Wasn't sure if I could use something else for heat or not.
There are two ways to do this. 1) use a hair dryer set on high heat. Be careful because the phone will get very hot. You don't have to get it super hot, just hot enough to soften the adhesive. It's kind of a feel thing. 2) leave the phone in the sun on your dash for 10-15 minutes while charging. AGAIN, PHONE WILL BE HOT! For a thin cutting tool, go to your local auto parts store. Ask for a feeler gauge set. They range in thickness from .002"-.030". Probably a .005-.007" is heavy enough while still being thin enough. You'll just have to experiment with them.
With any repair, it is assumed that the phone will no longer be water resistant, but there is tape and glue out there that claims to be water resistant. Try at your own risk!
broke my pixel 2 lcd screen because i dropped it when i got out of my car so now im watching videos, and i know for a fact i cant do this, i mess nearly all of these type of things up
I would assume that water resistance was lost once the screen cracked. There is water resistant adhesive out there, but there is no guarantee that it will work.
Short answer is no, but you can add some "waterproof" glue like some B6000, or adhesive that is made for the phone. This will definitely bring it closer to it's original resistance.
I recently scratched my pixel 2 screen really badly and my lcd is perfectly fine. I'm not looking to spend $185 just to fix some scratches. Does anyone have a video on how to replace the glass only? Thanks.
There are videos out there that replace glass only on the Pixel, but it is 1) not a fun repair, 2) you run a HUGE risk of breaking the OLED panel if you don't have much experience in this repair, 3) it is hard to cure the LOCA glue when you don't have a stable frame to put the OLED in, not to mention it is a messy process.
No because LG manufactures the Pixel 2 XL and there are 2 cables coming out of the screen, rather than the 1 cable on the HTC Pixel 2. Although I am pretty sure it is a very similar process of starting by removing the screen. If you're talking about the Pixel XL 1st gen, then yes, it is very similar.

I use an 8mm double sided tape found at Tap Plastics, which costs about $10 and lasts about 6 months (I use it like 4 times a day.) This should work very similar, but I have never tested it out. Use a razor blade to cut it perfectly and YES, you should assume that water resistance is long gone.
