I just checked the flight time of an ATACM it is only 6 minutes. So if the crew is on alert that a Ukrainian drone will be scouting staging areas they can deliver a package in under 10 minutes.
Wouldn't that be 6.25 minutes? Do you know about Ukrainians?
Atacms travels at Mach 3, and since this was a short range Block 1, it would take 160 seconds to go to its max range of 165kms. Denys must have been thinking about cruise missile speeds. There is very little latency between firing and target elimination.
@@SwarmerBees I think he may have been talking about them resuing the area for staging and training repeatedly over weeks or months. So Ukraine knew to send surveillance drones to check for targets. The Ukraine has had the 300km range ATACMs for about a week. I don't know what the range to this target would have been.
@@SwarmerBees They’re not going in a straight line. They are traveling in an arc with a peak altitude measured in several tens of miles/kilometers.

The calculation is further complicated because the velocity is not constant, we do not know the actual range, nor the angle the missile was fired at. The target was 50km from Ukrainian lines and the Himars would be significantly far from the line, so let's say target is 120km range. I further assume it was an atacms block 1 and we can ignore air resistance. Assuming the missile was fired at a 45 degree angle and the velocity after boost phase is mach 3, then the average V is less than Mach 3's 1029 meters/second. It probably works out to about 876 m/s, with a parabolic flight path of around 170 km, giving a time to target of about 193 seconds.

ATACMS has internal inertial guidance along with GPS so they can’t be jammed. Those additional strikes were probably vehicles used to transport all those troops.

Yes the additional strikes were on the transport vehicles like ifvs, and mtlbs. And then one of the other strikes was likely on anti air vehicles.

Ukraine gets the oldest versions of ATACMS that were decommissioned from US Army, so the dud and possible misses. Like 4 rockets for such a target?
INS on its own is a degraded mode guidance system. GPS en route guidance helps the inertial reference system have the latest position data while the IRS provides a sanity check between GPS updates. Together, there’s synergy.
What russian citizens don't understand, is if they were fighting against NATO, they would have a whole different view of life right now.

Countermeasures can always be circumvented; it just takes time. This was evident in World War II when new technologies were invented and existing ones were enhanced to stay ahead of the enemy’s advancements in tactics and hardware.
A similar situation is unfolding now. While Ukraine’s allies may not be visibly working and operating to develop countermeasures, I believe that many of NATO’s finest minds are diligently working behind the scenes to support the Ukrainian war effort

Something in sequence so as to destroy the first defensive barrier and then a second to penetrate deep inside the target. Ukrainians use cluster ammunition against military targets
Russia use cluster ammunition against civilian targets i.e. Odesa
A friend of mine is involved with a group who send aid to Ukraine. He has driven vans to Ukraine 3 times, mostly supplies for the soldiers, ex-British army winter equipment for example. Unfortunately the warehouse in Odessa where he delivered to was targeted by a Russian missile, it was destroyed and the manager who was described as a very brave man who distributed aid in a van to the front line was killed in this attack.

ATACMS were apparently sent to hit a build up of military vehicles that were parked in the trees. Hence 3 missiles.
IRIS-T destroyed in Kharkov region! New footage shows how the strike obliterated both the command-and-control vehicles as well as the launcher. It also caused a secondary detonation of ammunition at the site and sparked a fire at a building nearby: 140 Million EUR destroyed in two seconds!
ATACMS has GPS updated Inertial Navigation. GPS is not required. The missile is still quite accurate with just the INS. Some upgraded ATACMS are resistant to GPS jamming.
How do you explain the two major misses?
So it's like having a co-pilot who tells you that you're still headed for your destination but fades out because you have the radio on real loud.

Apparently not hidden well enough.......someone must have been watching and supplied the locations of those vehicles to the Ukrainian Army or Intelligence.
Ukrainian command needs to come up with a strategy to stop the Russian strategy of village hopping. It’s how they are advancing so easily rushing a village and using it as cover. They did the same thing with tree lines.
Weapons and ammunition would go a long way to achieving this goal. Since Trump says he will cut off all military aid to Ukraine if he's elected, anyone eligible to vote in the U.S. who wants Ukraine to win should vote accordingly.

Bottom strike hit the treeline where the vehicles are parked. Given you can't see large groups of people at top strike my guess would be drone teams were practicing in that area. Normally they train in a separate area away from the infantry.
According to Ryan Macneal the loss of precision on ATACMS when they rely on inertial systems would something like "they won't hit the target window on a building, but they will hit the building". It is a big missile, it'll do the trick.

Difference between ATACMS missiles and regular missiles is you program them to the target and therefore radar interference doesn't work
They use GPS and inertial guidance, the GPS can be jammed.
Trajectories to a precise point are in the missile's brain memory of the map. Do you need to check the accuracy of the paper road map in your car? No. Nothing has moved.
That's not how it works. Radar is not correct, they are EM(electromagnetic) interference or warfare systems. ATACMS program themselves, it's much more complicated and secure than you can possibly imagine. These were likely older ATACMS from almost 2 decades ago, although they do have newer ones I believe. EM warfare can be more effective against older systems.
Greg29 is correct. Jamming doesnt mean they ineffective. Just means they are less accurate.
Ukraine was having jamming problems last year. Theyve over come that problem.

The great thing is the ATACMS missile is being replaced by the PRISM missile. That means that the majority of ATACMS middles will get sent to Ukraine and Europe.

The longer the range of weapons sent to Ukraine, the larger the buffer zone the Russians will take to defend their territory. Just imagine Chinese rocket bases in Mexico.
