I am an American living in Kherson throughout the war and I therefor follow related things in Washington very closely. I am surely not an expert on politics but I sense a strong positive shift recently in Washington as evidenced by the final approval of the $61B and the permission to use American weapons such as the HIMARS in Russian territory near Kharkiv. I think that this shift will continue and increase in momentum. If I did not think this, I would not still be here in Kherson. Great discussion.

Well, the US was never gonna back away. It’s too juicy a target for them. However, this US handle everything will have to change once this is cleared up. The American public has grown tired of it. The left has deemed (and I’m not letting the right off the hook here) Russia a threat to globalism and has wanted them broken since the late 90s. They won’t let up till it’s finished. Now, how much and how often is the question. People forget, after the Warsaw Pact breakup the US closed 7 out of 8 defense manufacturers. We have limitations as well. Some of these missiles can take over two years to make.
We should worry about the coming election. No doubt if Trump is elected he will abandon Ukraine to Putin. At one time I thought that Putin held some dirt on Trump that exercised some control but now it seems that Trump just hopes to be a similar tyrant and sees Putin as a role model.

I very much appreciate James, but where is Mekayshebow?
I appreciate Marshall Bell's well balanced perspective. The 'what if' scenario - providing all the weapons immediately rather than progressively, seems like a futile exercise. That's because we'd only be speculating about Putin's response. If the west provided a decisive advantage from the outset, it seems likely that Putin would declare FULL mobilization of well over a million Russians. The west's rapid, escalatory actions would provide the rationale for him to say it's necessary. I doubt Ukraine by itself would have survived if a full Russian mobilization occurred in the first few months. Given this possibility, the measure, incremental approach to arming Ukraine appeases Putin just enough for for him to allow his forces to be slowly bled dry.
Sean Bell is very informative i would love to ask him one why do we let the Russians know what every country is supplying at least let them guess for a little while, seems to by announcing are aid packages it gives the Russians a chance to prepare because it can take weeks and months for some of the weapons to arrive, i don't remember this happening in any other conflict secrecy always seemed like part of the strategy, i know the the Russian have decent intelligence but damn at least make them work for it. Anyway just a thought.
