Most memorable Lin Dan shot (and there've been many). I still can't believe that shot at the Rio Olympic Semi-Final vs LCW when he was caught at the net at 20-19.
Gill was right when saying that most people wouldn't even attempt to get it back from such a position. Not a fraction of a second was lost between the attempt at the net kill and running back to retrieve the shuttle

Lin Dan is not only the best player ever, he is very kind too in this interview. You can see he admires LCW and saw how much LCW fought for the most important tournaments like the World Championship and Olympic Games but never won them. In between the lines I can almost read he thinks LCW worked harder than he did himself. I think LD had and has more talent, better technic, more efficient footwork and is mentally stronger. LCW is the better fighter, better condition and is more motivated. A shame he needed to stop due to his cancer.
I'm sure Lin Dan didn't mean that, cuz he said this in an interview, let me translate to you:
林丹：我觉得对于中国运动员来说，没有所谓的天赋这种说法，因为所有运动员都付出了巨大努力和无数时间来训练。但和国外的运动员相比，中国的运动员需要付出双倍甚至更多的努力
Lin Dan: I think for a Chinese athlete (from China), there is no such thing as talent, because all the athletes all put in a crazy huge amount of hard work and unlimited time of training and practice. But as compared to athletes from other countries, China athletes need to put in twice, or even more than twice the amount of hard work.

The All England final with Gade was actually in ‘04. He’s won so many he’s forgotten which year was which.

Just curious about the stars that Chinese player have in their jerseys.. What does it mean?
I think it is championship won. Or tournaments won. Some younger players have only outline of the star. Sort of blank. Awaiting.

Badminton is NOT like boxing where you can defeat your opponent in a man-to-man basis. China has 3-4 single world class players who can tire any opponent before meeting Lin Dan at the final. So, it is more to a kind of strategy. More often before any competition going on, China fielding 2-4 world class players to tire any opponent that they think can jeopardize their chances of winning in any tournament like the Olympic, the All England and the World Cup.
In many occasions, there is no single badminton player who can deter China's chances of winning big tournament except Lee Chong Wei. So,what the China team normally do, if not winning the game,that particular single badminton player has the clear mission [even if he cannot win the game]is to tire Lee Chong Wei [or any opponent]start from the beginning of any badminton tournament. And this will continue until reaching the quarter-final stage and semi-final stage. Normally, almost every game is played with 3 sets. That's so tiring. So, when Lee Chong Wei[or any opponent]survived until to the final, he must be very very tired already. So, this is much easier for Lin Dan [or any Chinese player]to win the game and get the title.
Lin Dan is the best player and no doubt about it. He won gold medals in the Olympic Game, the All England and also the World Cup where Lee Chong Wei often came out as second placing. But, Lee Chong Wei has won many international badminton titles more than Lin Dan. Remember, in badminton, no matter which badminton tournament you want play or taking part,and which title you wish to win, all the players that taking part are still the same line of players. So, China {Lin Dan?]is clever. He doesn't want to take part in every tournament, but, only aiming for the "big" ones. He got more focus and reserve his energy.That is why he won the "big" titles such as the Olympic Game, the All England, and the World Cup.
