  • After watching Stuart from Proper DIY scarify his lawn, I was mesmerised by his Fiskars Xact stand up weed puller... so much so, we bought one for my mother in law, then I wanted one too 😂
*You can watch his video here: • The Step by Step Guide...
So, if you've never seen one before, I've put a hands on review together on how we got on with it in time for the Easter weekend if you want to do any lawn care and maintenance.
I talk about the pros and cons for you to make up your own judgement - and think quite frankly, the sound of weed pulling would make a great ASMR video(!)

Bought one a few years ago and it's still by far my favourite gardening tool. It's a lifesaver for large, thorny weeds as you don't need to get your hands anywhere near them.

Weeding is only phase 1 but here is the breakdown for Sept - Oct lawn maintenance.
    1. Wait until the ground has loosened especially after a hot dry summer (a week's rain should do it)
    2. Pull up weeds (leave holes for now)
    3. Mow as low as possible
    4. Scarify lawn to de-thatch (use a rake or power scarifier)
    5. Aerate
    6. Seed and top dress
    7. Feed
    4.

I bought the older version of this a decade ago. I have a backyard hill and this is a must to pull out the weeds without getting on my hands and knees. I use this tool in my business. Yes it is less efficent than whipper snippering the weeds and then poisoning them but some areas can be hazardous to use the whipper snipper like around carparks or house windows and the like and this tool pools them by the roots and gets me off my hands and knees which I hate the most.

You can simply push in some topsoil if you want, but unless it's a gaping huge hole, just leave it. It's no different than using an aerator on your lawn, and will let in oxygen and rain. Healthy grass growth will fill it in, after a few days go by.

I'm not really impressed with mines. I wondered if it might be faulty, on some spots it seems to really lack the grip on weeds as if it doesn't close tightly enough or I might be running in to the issue you did where multiple weeds are in the same spot. My garden is not flat like yours, but more hilly I'm not sure if it's having any bearing on it, but yeah. Disappointed.
