We moved here from St. Louis for work and like it. Medical care, however, we have found to be severely lacking. It took us 4 months to find a family doctor who takes new patients. Wait times for specialists is sometimes months. It takes 6 months to schedule a colonoscopy, for instance. I agree about the traffic. Even during rush hour, it's really not bad for a city of this size. Overall, we would recommend it. Oh, I forgot, the glut of personal injury lawyers in this area is almost worse than the mosquitos!
That’s great you guys like the area! I do agree with you on if you’re a new patient, it can take a couple months to get in to see a doctor. I had to wait a couple months to see a doctor one time. That is quite funny about the personal injury lawyers, but very true haha! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Okay, I can only speak in the role of a visitor. But I never had a problem with public transport. I visited Corpus Christi last year and had a hotel in North Beach. Buses ran regularly and even though I wished they would run longer in the evenings, I still got to every destination I wanted to visit. I live in Germany and due to the different sizes of the countries, I am of course used to a different system. However, in Germany the fare is significantly higher and the staff is not as friendly and helpful. If I could immigrate to the USA, which would be a dream for me, Corpus Christi would be my city of choice. I have never felt so comfortable in any other city.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit and that the public transportation helped you get around easily. It’s great to hear how comfortable you felt here in Corpus. If you ever decide to make the move, feel free to reach out-I’d love to help you out!
I have been thinking of getting a small place in ARANSAS PASS because I like the idea of being able to take the ferry backwards and forwards between it and PORT ARANSAS. Probably a nice touristy thing to do. Also since I don't want the expense of a car, people and videos tell me that the little town of ARANSAS PASS is walkable. I believe also there is a bus route between it and CC so if I feel like some big city living from time to time it is not far away. The only thing that worries me about the hurricanes is what do you do if you have no transport. My idea would be to get out of town on holiday for a couple of weeks (e.g. to Austin or San Antonio) and stay in a hotel. But I think I would need lots of notice because I'm sure many thousands of others will be thinking the same thing?
@@MartinMilnerUK Aransas Pass is a good area, and I totally get the appeal of the ferry to Port Aransas-it’s definitely a fun, touristy thing to do! Just keep in mind that the ferry can get really busy on weekends, holiday weekends, and during the warmer months. As for getting around, in my opinion, Aransas Pass isn’t the most walkable city, and without a car, it can be a bit of a challenge. Especially during hurricane season, having reliable transportation is key for evacuations. The city does give plenty of advance notice if a storm is coming, so residents have time to prepare. Let me know if you have any other questions, I’ll be happy to answer them!

Hey there! Home insurance in our area typically ranges from about $1,500 to $3,500 or more, depending on factors like the size and location of the home. Coastal areas often have higher premiums due to risks like hurricanes and flooding. If you're interested, I can reach out to an insurance rep I know to get an estimated quote for a specific area you are interested in. Also, just a heads up, wind insurance would be required for you to have here as well.
First off the job market here for professional work is dismal. We have doctors moving out of CC because their spouses can not find work. Many people here have multiple jobs to make ends meet. Getting a job here is another thing, you have to know someone to get a decent job. I've seen it on many occasions, usually family, favor or friends get hired. You have a BA? It is worth about the same as a HS diploma here. She also forgot to mention the culture of GETO here. It is pretty bad. SO bad I can not go watch a movie without people with phones on and people shouting/over laughing. If you want to live poor, move here. It will be hard to move out, the ol Corpus Christi curse. But hey, if you take a vacation here it can be nice. But remember you are contributing to wealthy land owners who are pushing wadges down here.
Thank you for sharing your perspective. I understand that there are challenges in the job market and other areas, and it's important to consider all aspects when thinking about a move. Everyone's experience in Corpus Christi can be different, and I appreciate you taking the time to express yours
Corpus Christi offers a variety of neighborhoods, each with its unique charm and amenities. South side is probably the safe part.. (more so south of Saratoga) west is the poor side central is mainly stores, but unappealing for the most part.. North is mixed... way north... ocean drive is the extreme rich... east... hmm no clue... guess flourbluff and the base are considered east. Robstown (mainly Hispanic), Flour Bluff (mainly Caucasian), Callallen, Aransas Pass, Rockport, padre Island are all their own thing. And are pretty much poor to rich in the order I gave. I'm on the south side.. my home got broken into once in 20 years. In 50 years... my house has been broken into 3 times... I think. But one of the times it was a classmates parents who stole from my parents... I was 6yo and showed my friend a way to enter my house without a key.
I really wish you would have mentioned the crime rate.I know it's probably a sore topic. But we are interested in moving into the area but the murder And violent crime rate is very concerning. We live between Austin and College Station and I have many friends who grew up in corpus, Christi. And they say that crime is a real problem there and it's not just statistics but affects daily life.
I lived in Flour Bluff once and they went through my car every night. The first time I had my speakers stolen my next door neighbor told me to never lock it or they'll break the windows to get in. Leave it unlocked, but take anything of value out of it. So then, I moved a couple miles down to Airline into a really nice two story town house. I thought that was the end of it, but no, my new neighbors said they were having problems with people breaking into their vehicles. It even happens on the Island, which is the nicer part. I've never known anyone be the victim of a violent crime, but property crime is rampant there and the cops don't seem to care much. When you can get water front property for a fraction of what other people pay there is a reason. Also, it's hard to find employment that pays anything decent unless you get lucky and work for the refineries.
I understand your concerns about crime. While some areas in Corpus Christi do have higher crime rates, it's just like other cities that have certain areas with more crime. The Southside, however, is a great place to consider-it's safe and very family-friendly. Please reach out if you have any other questions or concerns; I'm happy to answer them. Crime rates in Corpus Christi can differ from one neighborhood to another. Notably, the central and west sides of the city report higher incidents. I honestly don't recommend corpus. It is very isolated and the people seem to be angry all the time. Lots of tourists since it's pretty much a tourist and oil area.. It mainly is gas stations, Whataburger's and crammed businesses on two main streets South Padre island and staples street. Downtown is full of empty business'. Lots of homeless.. the city government is very corrupt and tax's are high. Heavy police presence but nothing seems to be done about crime. Mainly pulling people over for petty things. The weather is nice but can have hurricanes and very strong storms that cause flash flooding. Very limited job market. Mainly tourism (port aransas) and oil industries.

Nueces County , where Corpus Christi is located ,has the highest rate of typhoid cases in the nation. Think this over. Very appealing city ,but is it your best choice ?
I've never known anyone who had it and I've lived in the area for 15 years. I've known plenty of victims of property crime, though, both in Corpus and the neighboring Kleberg county area. South Texas in general is not what I would call an ideal place to buy property and raise a family. There are safer, cleaner areas in Texas. My advice to people is don't just go visit. Rent and live there for awhile and make sure you know what you're getting into before you buy. And God, do they ever actually finish the road construction? They tear up streets and leave it that way for YEARS.
The problem with Corpus Christi is that there is no culture. The arts are just about non-existent, compared to other cities. There are no fashionable, chic, sophisticated people. You can always judge a city by how many book shops there are. It is a cultural desert.
I understand your concerns, but Corpus Christi does have a unique culture and a community of interesting and engaged people.
