    Bonita, your dishes always make my mouth water. Simple dishes are always more flavor filled, memorable, & more likely to be passed along to future generations. Thank you!

    You've out done again! where I grew up salt pork was used in alot of soups,stews,baked beans the list goes on.Over the years I've swapped salt pork for a good brand of thick bacon.The bacon should be cut in small pieces about the size of a dime,fry until light brown,drippings and all add to your creation ,works well with chicken noodle or rice soup,pea soup,baked beans,fish or seafood chowder the list is endless! I'm a great fan of yours,love your homespun approach in the kitchen it reminds me of my grandmothers actions in her kitchen please keep making such nice shows!!Carl in Avon Park FL

      Hi Bill: Thank you for your message and for visiting my channel, I'm not sure what you mean by sprinkle of malt vinegar. But if you like malt vinegar with your stewed cod you can give it a try but i have never used it. I hope that answers your question. Enjoy Bonita

    traditionally, it's what staples you have in your kitchen or area. We would add carrots. Everyone in our area always had a garden. Mostly root vegetables. Salt cod was a staple in most costal communities, whether in Newfoundland, Italy, Portugal, France, Ireland etc...

    Ms. Bonita, I didn't catch if you cooked that cod first? It doesn't look raw.

    • @bonitaskitchen
      @bonitaskitchen  6 лет назад +2

      Hi John: Thank you John for your message and for visiting my channel, the cod is raw and it only takes about five minutes or so to cook out with the onions and fat pork mixture. This is a fresh fish not salted but i'm sure you can use salted but it will need to be soaked over night first. Enjoy Bonita

      @sheteg1 3 года назад

      I did it last night with bigger pieces. My husband (an expat NFLD’r living in Ontario) loved it. I had pork fat back my sister in law brought me back this summer. Thx Bonita. Still want to see a recipe for cod heads 😂

    • @bonitaskitchen
      @bonitaskitchen  3 года назад +1

      @@sheteg1 Nice! I'm glad you enjoyed our recipe and thank you for following up with us letting me know. Cods heads is one of Mom favourite meals, its not easy to get cods heads and we don't fish. But all she would do when cooking it is add a piece of salted beef and onion pieces with the cods heads and boil it, part boil the salted beef first because the cods heads only need 15 mins to cook. Stay safe and thank you once again for enjoying our channel. :) Bonita
