Question about Dolby Atmos for Netflix/new Nvidia Shield TV pro: if the TV doesn't support Dolby Atmos but the soundbar that suport it, will I be able to have Dolby Atmos sound or not? I ask this because on 2017 Nvidia Shield TV, even it said that supports Dolby Atmos (and using the TV without support but having a soundbar with Dolby Atmos), I cannot find any Netflix movie with this sound format.
This depends on your set up. The old Nvidia Shields supported Atmos but the Netflix app itself did not on the Shield. If you buy the 2019 flavor of shield and had it directly hooked into an Atmos sound bar you will get Atmos. If you have Shield plugged directly into tv then use ARC to pass to Atmos sound bar this will like not work due to your tv not supporting Atmos. Even if your tv passed it through to sound bar your tv and soundbar would need to support eARC which is unlikely. I have the 2019 Shield pro hooked up to Nakamichi shockwafe 9.2.4 sound bar which then passes through video to an LG C8 tv. For sure the Netflix app had dolby vision and Atmos support and works fine.

Definitely tempted, the shield I have was one of the best purchases I've made. Probably wait a bit though as honestly, what I've got is still fantastic.
It's a bit like the old bull young bull story !! instead of selling you one Nvidia shield they want to sell you two but I suspect in 18 months time there will be another. The main hint that this was on its way was the mad deals on the older model . ie £1 extra to include the game controller which sells separately for £59.95 . They needed to shift the older ones in a way that didn't sting too much so you might just buy the new one. The proprietary nature of Android TV is a put off for me like Fire TV (which is a lot cheaper) . I just bought a 32bit Android 9 4/64 which is remarkably good for £42 . I linked that to my 4k PC screen. You get proper Play Store apps which work easily but with Android TV I have had to shoe-horn apps into the box !!

They have a newer version of that with slightly better specs and more ports they are calling it the Shield TV Pro and its around £200 this is the new cheaper version basically.

How is the wifi tho, is it improved over the dated version any? I don't know about yall but I've purchased 3 different boxes and all their wifi modules where a joke at best pulling anywhere from 5mb to less than 1mb. This may seem reasonable to some however I have fiber nothing more is a first world problem to me when I'm within 20 foot of my modem (and 1 wall) where YT, and pretty much everything else constantly stops and buffers. I turn it on and go to watch a video on my late model non smart 4k tv and it throws out 240p .. I mean this is certainly an entitled complaint but I'm just tired of this kinda stuff after 3 boxes I've not had one which picks up proper wifi. My PC pulls 750mbs, my phone pulls 300mb, my 3 tv boxes pull 0.3kb-5mbs

as it says its an ai upscaling system. meaning its predictive. it actualy sees the pecture snd based in light snd shadow it predicts what's there.. like skin wrinkles. but at resolution lower the 720p those become to garbled and smudged to work.

Yes! Someone who finally agrees. I'm so tired of underpowered Android devices. This machine could be a beast if it had more space/storage and more RAM. Yes, Android is pretty good on low end devices, sure, but when it's buttery smooth and you can actually do things with it, it's a capable OS. Manufacturers must understand that people want smartphone capability in their media player/TV.
Brilliant review. Being that there is no USB port, is there some type of adapter that can be used to enable a mini keyboard remote? (e.g Rii mini keyboard) I find they come in handy when you need to input text for searches and is used frequently.
I have the original model. In direct comparison I don't like the way they have designed the new model from cable management side of things at all! I mean great job making it into a cylinder and ofcourse a bit more powerful processor and upscale features however I would have preferred the cylinder actually sit either upright or horizontal with cables coming off one horizontal side of the cylinder instead of the ports on opposite ends which makes the wires sticking out of the two ends and just shocking design n u just want to hide the damn device well even if that was the idea it's still a poor design choice In terms of where the ports are positioned in my opinion. On the other hand the new 2019 remote is absolutely fantastic and looks like they have actually put some more thought into it. So in the end I'd just buy the new remote if I decide not to upgrade :) gr8 review btw
If this unit does it better you just let it handle it. The TV won't upscale anything in that case because it's receiving a signal that's upscaled to higher resolution.
@@Evil_Peter where is comparison video proving that the nvidia upscales better. the only comparison you have is with the nvidia on and off function. plug in a pc to ur tv and set it to bluray input and play a youtube video in 1080p while ur windows resolution is set to 4k and you will see the results will be vastly different from playing it through your tv youtube app

Why did they make the unit round, they should have made it the same shape as the remote. Also they could have included cool RGB Google logo or something on the unit that you could control from the software. Ah well, at least they have given us new and better hardware.

Late reply but it's wireless. I dont know if the remote actually uses BT but I have my Harmony Hub paired with it over BT so I would guess that it is.

Does it have Plex support
Why did they make the unit round, they should have made it the same shape as the remote. Also they could have included cool RGB Google logo or something on the unit that you could control from the software. Ah well, at least they have given us new and better hardware.
set my Nvidia shield to 4k and the data use tripled if you are caped on monthly net download data keep an eye on it
