Had my 12-40 f2.8 Pro for about 7 years - been through hours of rain, saltwater splashes, wind blown sand and fish slime - still delivering pin sharp images and fast AF. Only quibble I have is that I have lost 3 lens hoods because they always seem to work loose at unexpected times. Absolute gem with the close focus and the manual focus clutch - brilliant.
I've just been bought an OM-1 with this lens as a Xmas pressie from the wife. Did a quick test with a portrait of the pet dog. I must say I'm blown away with the results especially as I haven't set the camera up properly yet. I currently use a Nikon Z6ii and changing over due to weight issues with long lenses.
I got the second version of this lens as a kit lens with my OM-1, though because I was concentrating on telephotos, I still have to give it a proper workout. This video reminds me there's too much quality (and money!) tied up in that thing to sit, waiting patiently, at the back of a drawer. 😳
Go on Grant go and get the 12-40 f2.8 .. and go for the Mark II (second hand if you are like me) and swap it for the Pana Leica 12-60 you have .. as much as I like the idea of a 12-60 lens, in reality there is an IQ compromise with it besides the variable aperture
Hi. I already mentioned, but just in case you missed it. If you pair this fantastic lens with the Pen f you‘ll need to add a grip or at least a base plate. The combo would not sit flat on desk without this addition hight.
It's a great lens, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the CA and flare management in my example, which is a first gen. My understanding is the coatings are better on the Mark II.
Great video. I do like the images from this lens - better than my Olympus 25mm f1.8. Note though, it hasn't any Image Stabilization. So i lost nothing when i switched from E-M1 to G9. Sweet!
I've been an Olympus shooter for 4 years and i finally just ordered this lens. I think I am going to sell my Sigma 16 & 30mm f1.4 lenses to invest into the M.Zuiko 40-150mm f4 pro lens. 🧐 🤔
Great video, I’m looking for a camera mainly for pictures/ photography, not so much video …..In your opinion which one would you recommend, the GX8 or the Gx85. I also been looking at the G7 , but I think that one doesn’t have image stabilization. Thank you for your help 🙏😊
Hey Grant ! I’m having G9 with OM 25 f1.2 pro as the only lens. I’m looking to get my next lens and can’t decide between this (mk ii) and OM 40-150 f4 pro. Could you recommend which will be a more suitable next lens among these to shoot candid pictures of my newborn in her element ?
@@grantrobertdavies Yes, but I think I'll keep both the 12-40 and the PL12-60. This last lens is a perfect "all-rounder" and when I travel with the GX9 and visit somewhere even for just 1 day, I find it very comfortable and the focal range is perfect. 20mm on m43 makes a huge difference and with the 12-40 I felt this limit which is why I sold it and only kept the 12-60. Being a fixed F2.8 is a great advantage for indoor photos: this is why I find the 12-60 limiting even though I almost always use the 25mm f1.4 for indoor photos. A final limitation of the 12-40, that made me decide to sell it is, that it is heavier and above all bigger than the 12-60. When I put the 12-40 on the GX9, it was much more unbalanced than when I use the 12-60. Then placed on a surface, the 12-40 went beyond the bottom of the machine (being very large, I would say "fat") while the 12-60 is perfectly flush with the base of the GX9. I only had this "problem" with the GX9 while I had no problem using only the G9. But now I intend to take the 12-40 and an M5 and always attach the 12-40 to it.
I feel like marketing from olympus and the new company has been atrocious. Your statement (not a direct quote) 'the om-1 camera, or whatever it is' summed up my experience tracking latest the OM offerings.

undoubtedly one of the best lenses in the m4/3 field ever.

I have it. I love it. Crisp as a set of primes. Beautiful build quality. I shoot G9's but love this one from Olympus.

I don't think the lens has dual synch. Currently only the 300mm and 12-100mm and 150-400mm PRO has it.

Yeah - I think you are correct
Just ordered a refurbished one. I am excited!
Have got the 12-100 f4 glued to my EM1X, with my shaky hands duel sync is a must. Bass sounds great need more please.
Thank you :)
Your photos are great. Your graphic artistry is terrific. And, ya, the 12-40 f/2.8 is a superb lens. Oh, and the audio was really good.

The 12-40 f2.8 is my most used zoom lens. When I go on vacation it is on one of several different 4/3 bodies.
mine arrives tomorrow, Amazon has an awesome sale on it for only 579 USD

Awesome man :) let me know how you go with it :) That 16mm sigma is a great lens too :)
I'm buying it tomorrow and gonna see how it performs with my EM1 ii
How are you getting on with it?
@@jakestechtravels4864 fantastic camera!! With 12-40mm lens. It’s just a perfect combination. The video quality is no slouch either. Loving it

Probably the gx8 :)
Oh and what about the "new" Leica 12-35mm f2.8?
Bang on the money great lens love it 👍😎

I'd Probably Go The 12 to 40mm - I think You'll get more out of it :)
Ahahahah....🤣🤣🤣🤣I did the same thing myself keeping only the PL12-60 and now I'm seriously thinking about buying the Olympus 12-40 again
Yes … I think we need to get it again :)

@@DandoPorsaco-ho1zs The 12-60 is too convenient for travel or when visiting a city. You can't not have it if you use a Lumix
