  • Welcome back to Drifting South!
On this weeks episode we are finally in Mexico on the Baja California. Our first stop will be San Felipe which is the first beach town on the east side of the Baja. We are slowly getting used to how to drive and find our way around.
We've got a few tips for you if you are ever planning to RV through the Baja and if you have any questions please comment below.
Some of the highways got pretty narrow and we had to change our plans at one point because we didn't have enough cash on us and it didn't feel safe. Some of the spots we stay are in the middle of nowhere with no cell service and often no debit machines. Also very few gas stations so be prepared!
Thanks so much for watching and take care until next time!
    Jenny

An ocean of a different kind. Cacti, and scrub bushes. Beautiful scenery to boot. Stay safe, and happy trails.

Thanks so much! It really is beautiful and the landscape is so different than anything I’ve ever seen before. All this beauty I was flying over when visiting Mexico in the past

The boojum trees south of San Felipe but north of Guerrero Negro are surreal. As Doctor Seuss as it gets . Just tell the military guys No me pistola no me gringo loco si me gringo bueno. They’ll usually chuckle at this and say ok gringo bueno you go now. And if the military guys say howdy to you when you say hola to them. Then they like the looks of you. You’re golden.

Thanks for the tips! Haha I am definitely a gringo bueno! Brent does all the talk as he speaks very good Spanish. I will look into these places you are suggesting. We are further south at the moment and will be in Loreto after Christmas.

When I go backpacking and leave my truck at the end of the road, for a week. I hide my money, credit card, and medical cards, in the air filter under my hood, or the inside air filter, or under the carpet flap under my front seats.

Six month Mexican visa but are you limted from how long you can be away from Canada by Canada? Seeing you devain the prawns. I think that sounds good for dinner also.

Hi Charlie! We’ve been eating so much fish it’s amazing! We were so lucky to have a vendor drive into the RV park offering fresh prawns for sale.
As for how long we can be out of Canada, I believe it’s as long as we want to be. The Canadian citizenship laws have changed a bit which is good news.
I won’t be out of Canada that long though. I’ll be back at Good Hope this spring/ summer.
Thanks for your comment Charlie! Take care

It’s called Club de Pesca. It was easy enough for us to get in but a little tight. It’s great being so close to the ocean! Thanks for watching!!

I lived in the Tijuana Rosarito area for 10 years. Be kind and respectful ad friendly at the check points.I never had problems with the military, it's the cops you have to watch out for. NEVER leave your money unattended, it's your word against theirs. Believe me, their word wins. I got hit twice and it was my fault because I was the gringo! Not my fault either time. I speak fluent Spanish and the cop never wanted to talk to me. I finally had it with the corruption and left. Don't trust anyone, sad advice but the people told me that. Have a great time, there are some wonderful people, enjoy the culture! DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE AT ALL. They will impound your vehicle and extort a lot of money out of you to get it back. Never happened to me but I know people that it happened to. Best to use cash as much as possible. i used my card to buy gas once and my account got hacked.

The sad truth about corruption in a poor country. Money is king and some people will do whatever they can to take it from you. Thank you for your words of advice. We will keep doing our best to stay safe. We have cameras in the truck and it seems to deter anyone who comes to our window. They know they are being filmed. Hopefully we will continue on our lucky streak and stay out of trouble.
      Take care!

Hello! Would love to know the name of the tattoo artist you visited!

    • @jenny_adrift
      @jenny_adrift  7 месяцев назад +1

Hi Tanya! Jamie is an older gentleman who works in the tattoo studio in San Felipe. I can’t find him online at all so I will just explain where we found him.
When you’re in San Felipe and are walking along the little malecon, you will see painted letters near the top of a building that reads “tattoo”. There is a little pass through hallway that takes you to the next avenvue further from the ocean street. His shop is in the middle of the hallway. There is also a woman’s clothing store and a barber shop in that hallway.
I’ve looked at google maps for better info but it looks different when we visited so it’s hard to say.
Jamie was so friendly and accommodating and made us feel very comfortable. He also showed us the needles he was using that came out of a fresh packages.
I hope you find it!! Thanks for watching the video!
