  • Welcome to the 35th annual running of Autocar's Britain's Best Driver's Car shootout.
    We've taken the 11 best new sports cars of the year and driven them for three days on road and track to decide which is the greatest to drive. In this year's lineup we have the: Alpine A110R, Ariel Atom 4R, Audi RS7, BMW M2, BMW M3 CS, Honda Civic Type R, Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato, Peugeot 205 GTi Tolman Edition, Porsche 911 Dakar, Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Prodrive P25.
    They're all fantastic cars - the best of the year, so even the one that finishes 11th is great. Join Matt Prior as we run through numbers 11 through to six, with the top five coming next time.

      It's a truck, 2 GMA T50S can still weigh less than M2. Shame for BMW. Need to take a page out of Gordon's book. Some 1200-1300kg 450bhp light weight manual 2+2 is what we expect from BMW in place of M2 (Like 718 & 911).

      @@AnmolSingh-2911BMW has chosen the luxury comfort segment to compete with Mercedes. That's why BMW's are so heavy. 718 is not a 2+2. And you're asking 1300 kg for an inline 6 engine car but even in the 90's, bmw was unable to do that. Barely porsche did with the first original boxster (Gen 986). Nowadays the only true purist sports car remaining on sale is named ND3 MX-5. It has all the ingredients, even the pretty soft suspension that gordon Murray likes for a road car. But unfortunately, in the next few years gasoline will become more and more expensive, so i am wondering if the new answer is the next 2027 Alpine A110 electric and 2028 Mazda RX-9 (iconic SP concept). Thinking wisely to make my decision between those.

    Honestly, I wouldn't take any of these cars. I would take the atom or 3RS but unless I had access to a track at least once a month - no way. Gimme a gt3, cayman gt4, C8 Z06, last gen m2, GT350, or Emira for back roads and I'll be a very happy camper.
    ps. how is the Emira not in this?

    Loving the P25. I have a V5 STi RA and tbh it doesn't sound that different. It is happiest zipping around at full throttle, it is a noisy, crashy car with an engine that sounds like a bag of spanners at idle, but boy do i love it.

    • @mickwrinkles2318
      @mickwrinkles2318 7 месяцев назад +4

      When even the 'small' M2 is this heavy you know BMW does not care about weight. I'd be ashamed producing a fat car like this, but almost every manufacturer follows the same stupid path: next gen has to be faster, wider, grippier which means more weight. Mazda MX5 ND is the very few new mainstream cars that does not follow this fallacy.

So far I would probably elect the Alpine as favorite choice, for the simple reason that I have travelled in and driven one (the base A 110) and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. But then I don’t go on race tracks, just enjoy cars on twisties and mountain roads. Looking forward to reading what’s coming on the first five 👍

    So to summarise this video; Autocar took a bunch of cars including a luxury GT, a long wheelbase hot hatch, two confused BMW cars trading on past glory and two serious performance cars and put them on a wet track. The better the cars are the worse they will be in the wet due to dry weather focused tyres. Oh and the capabilities of the Prodive are way outside what the Autocar hacks can approach.
