I just sometimes imagine that Footmen don't actually shield at first, we can still see their shield due to idk, oversight, technical limitation or just the reply above me.
The lore friendly explanation for me was that each footman, or unit in general, represents not one but an entire squad of said unit. Defend upgrade just means that they are working better as a squad to block projectiles!
Blizz at the absolute height of their storytelling powers. Those poor doomed humans had _no idea_ what they were marching into, and that was after the first two wars. But they were so brave, and the honourable ones were honourable.

The quality of blizzard cinematics were always been ahead of it's time starting from warcraft and onwards. In japanese we have Squaresoft back then In western we have Blizzard
actually they exist since warcraft 2 -.- just that the "horde" (orcs, trolls, etc...) is all represented inside of the orcs ans the "alliance" (Humans, Elves, dwarfs ) in the humans
@mysticcrimson Wrong... Horde exists since Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and the Alliance since Warcraft II. In WC3 the Alliance is almost the same of WC2 and Horde is reformed by Thrall
I think, I can request my friends and family to play this music on my funeral, still not have better music that fit better. I can be a Command & Conquer fan, but when we die, the differences are left behind, the difference it is only if you made something when you was alive... but it is never too late, when we die, we all sleep as everyone, but we can still leave something for everyone learn from us. can be just games, but the teaching is real.

They know how to more effectively use their sheilds.
Very good point... then if in a group they should get +1 armor buff if activated defend.
