An Italian breakfast is a coffee and a cigarette, thats why the breakfast is light
In Germany we call this a "Nuttenfrühstück" hooker's breakfast.
Maybe the cigarette can be replaced by a cornetto, cannolo or similar, depending on the region. :)
@@bastian6625 nah definitely cigarettes
@@sac5608 Nah, not so much. Don't know anyone who does that, or see many people doing that.
@bastian662 just ..no it cannot. you can have just a cannolo in ADDITION, the cigarete is not up for trade .P
Asking an Italian if he ever had Minestrone, is like asking an American if they ever had ketchup! 🤯😂✌🏼
I am Italian and I never ate Minestrone lol

She didn't lie mate. Italian MRE are really good. And i say that as a french used to eat our MRE. Italian and french MRE are REALLY good. In fact i would trade one french MRE for one italian. French MRE for american MRE ? Never....
Somehow I expect some wine in a French mre ?
@@Maverick21491no but in Italian mre there is a cordiale....❤❤
The most european rations are made for a whole day in one package.
In Spain the emergency ones in Spain are a bag for the whole day. But the campaign ones are three boxes (breakfast, lunch and dinner) with cans and various things like chewing gum. a toothbrush, powdered milk, powdered soup, fire starter, matches, a small single-use oven...
In .se we have 24/48h rations, I tasted one of the us ration last exercise, it was sweet as hell, got somth called "cheese spread with jalapenos" sounds very artificial. Got a second one I have not opened. Menu 18 Beef Ravioli in meat sauce.
The rations I received during my mandatory military service back in 1987-1988, when we were doing field exercises, were already for 24h.
Italian MRE combat rations are one bag as well. These are campaign rations
As a former Swiss Army Chef I would say that food is one of the most important things to keep the troops happy, that's why rations are used in very rare occasions. Our field kitchens are able to prepare and distribute good meals most of the time.
Rations are used when you are on mission. Would be awesome to have a field kitchen out on missions but they are in the bases obviously.
I think the most offensive thing might be that the subtitles added the "bolognese" stuff when he very deliberately did not call it bolognese :D
First of all, why is that offensive? And second look at the video again between 7.14 and 7.17. The Italian says it is bolognese.
@@smek22071975Thats the part Im talking about. Unless you have some hearing problems (you should have that checked out), he very clearly doesn’s say bolognese unlike what the subtitles suggest.
It's not offensive in the slightest. The thing he's referring to is called ragù bolognese, or sauce bolognaise in french, aka Spaghetti Bolognese (though it's not served with spaghetti because they can't hold the heavy sauce). Now for him and most Italians the combination of "Ravioli" and "ragù" makes it obvious that he's referring to bolognese (or at least some type of hearty sauce), but for many people outside of Italy, they don't automatically associate ragù with bolognese. Most people probably think of ragout, a hearty stew. So for them Ravioli ragù/ragout would likely be ravioli with meat chunks and vegetable chunks in some sort of stew.
Not everyone likes peanut butter, I personally hate peanut butter
i second that. i do love whole peanuts though.
When your in a combat situation and you are hungry you don,t give a shit
@@smek22071975 Yeah, lots of energy in there.
@@smek22071975 never been but i would assume i wouldnt be all that hungry at that moment.
Peanut butter for me is one of the most tasty things ever.
Thanks Ryan finally we see Italian footage ...keep Italy 🇮🇹 coming❤
I love how she´s explaining that to the italian dude, when ALL of Europe's military MREs work the exact same way lol. ( oh and the American pacage is 1 meal, the Italian box are 3 meals )
You simply cannot give an Italian an American pizza
"Oh, it's like a toast!" 🤣🤣🤣 ... not sure I'll recover from that for the rest of the day
She asked if he had ever had Minestrone soup...!! That was my _first_ Italian meal when I went to stay in Rome for eight days (with my secondary school) when I was 13 years old...in 1966...🤔🏴🙂🇬🇧❤️🖖
"he seems very sceptical" well they OPEND with giving him a bit of bread with a chese like substance and called it pizza , his trust is shattered at that point :P i think this would have gone alot better if they kept the "pizza" to the end :P
Ryan’s face when the Italian soldier was going to eat the pizza 😂
Go to Croatia some are even better than Italia
When I spoke with Aussie military at a base, they said that to be deployed you need to be fit medically, mentally & dentally. So having a tooth ache when placed in a zone without a dentist is troublesome. So brushing teeth etc helps that happen!!
To be fair, combat rations aren't really meant to be fabulous. They're supposed to be high calorie, quick prep, easy to carry things.
I served in the British Army from '84 to '94. In the 80's at 24 hour rat pack (ration pack) was a box approximately 8" Square. Which contained 3 meals, a brew kit and a hexy cooker, which could be packed into your webbing easily. With the introduction of Bint Bags (Boil in the bag) You could (in theory) get a 'better' meal. Heating on was easy if you were on the move a lot because you could just drop one down the front of your Combat jacket. Your body would then heat it so that it was at least warm...ish.
The most important item in there was the brew kit. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, powdered milk and boiled sweets (usually Spangles) and toilet paper oh, and a Yorkie.
I think the combined calorific value was in the region of 5000-6000.
Nobody from other nations liked our rats. We just ate it and moved on lol.
I once met an Italian Alpine soldier on an exercise. His rations included some Grappa!!! Only in Italy, lol
I don't know why but that's not the US 24h K-ration (the food is more, there are other videos online), the Italian instead, is a normal 24h K-ration.
Dude, if you have never visited Italy and tried their food in some families homecooked meals or in some restaurants the locals love to go, you haven't lived!
The Italian soldier is so sceptic all the time and polite for the circumstances I might add.
If you get what he gets at home, this "food" doesn't appear like edible sustenance.
He is spoiled with the best food on the planet. You can't be angry at him. It's not his fault.
There’s an American trying Aussie ration packs too, I saw recently. He must be a military chef. Some items were out of date but the Aussies said they still eat them.
Glad you say it as American...' Americans are notorious NOT HONEST.'
Awesome video once again thank you ❤
The American soldier is not lying when she says that canned ravioli is good. No Italian (soldier or not) would settle for a dish they don't like, the food culture in Italy is almost a religion for them. Give an Italian soldier bad food and he will go over to the other side. Of course this food is incomparable to when those same dishes come straight from the kitchen. And the fact that the package contains cutlery... in Europe we use them whenever we can, we get used to it from when we are children. I have seen Americans in restaurants who do not know how to use them.
I have once seen and tasted a Hungarian ration kit, and it was also mainly Hungarian meals in cans. But... not very good. There were some water sanitizing tablets: if the soldier's only access to water is mud water, they can make it drinkable. Nothing gourmet or fresh or yum-yum, it has to last a long time and it has to fill you up.
In WWII, the Americans had ice cream ships.
Everybody else was eating scraps.
That's because you showed up at the end, after most of Europe was bombed and destroyed.....famine was hitting hard,so obviously they didn't had icecream.
Damn no wonder all those ships in Pearl Harbour were ruined. They legitimately melted after being struck.....
Must be the reason why everywhere you go you'd see regulars and vets of Meal Team Six.
The US Navy had ice cream but no alcohol. The Royal Navy had alcohol but no ice cream. I'm going with the British option 😂
@Cydonius1701 let's be fair ours had oars, and rowing was sore
Swede here, if there is something that they have perfected in the USA it's peanut butter!
That accessories (i hope i spelled it right) are rather common for european rations and its common to to get food for the whole day
By what I've seen of US MREs, they seem awesome considering they basically only need water, and they're light weight because the US has perfected freeze-drying.
But if clean water is difficult to come around, the canned food wins.
Lighting a fire close to the front may not be the greatest idea of all time, as the enemy will be able to smell it and see the smoke... on the other hand, a self-heating meal, and its steam, will also show up if you have thermal vision.
The original idea of MRE was that it should be edible without any cooking, in than sense I think the cans win a little bit again... eating freeze-dried chili con carne out of the bag, as to not reveal your location sounds a bit dry to me.
Anyway... serving pizza to an Italian... of course it won't get a great score, but he was very diplomatic saying that you can't expect "home cooked" in battle.
Perhaps that's something, the little startup, NATO could do better. An international effort to improve the MREs for all members... that would get countries proud of their cuisine (Italy, France, Greece and Turkyie just to mention a few) to pay more attention...
Problem would be that when the boys return home, they'd expect better food.
I can't say a winner... they both have pros and cons... depends on who's the enemy and what's the weather like.
Ryan, you should take a look at some of the hundreds of military ration reviews on RUclips. They are often great.
"NATO, 've you ever heard of them?" dude that's not a youtube channel that's an extremely famous military alliance between european countries and even the US
pretty cool seeing the para troopers in the back 7:10
All soldier's rations are pretty crappy everywhere except maybe the French rations they are very good.
US MRE 's are crap .
Where does all your tax dollars go in the US ?
Not the soldiers it all goes to weapons ,um , da !!!
Just look at all the military bases all around the world the US has, for their gunboat politics, then you know were the taxes are going.
The advantage with the American MRE is that you don't need to light a fire and that is quicker. But yeah, I wouldn't call it a pizza either. And yes, that seems a one meal only. But I did see other American MREs as well with accessories like water tablet and drinks and so on. I had canned ravioli before, and if it is anything like the one I had, it is actually quite good. And yeah, I wouldn't like chicken in jelly either. That is an aquired taste or something like that.
But you have to carry a lot water and plastic waste with you. Most european MRE can be eaten cold (ravioli are total fine at room tempreature) or even contain item that dont need to be heat up (chocolade, canned bread, cookies, ect.) and there is no need for extra water to prepare the meal.
One of the best trade items in the German rations are the the thuna with lime bags, one half of people loves them the other despises them. Chocolate is great. And I always keep the canned rye bread around.
Ryan, MREs aren't meant to be fantastic food.
OTOH, the food aboard US aircraft carriers, submarines, etc. is superb.
The little cooker we had back in the day. That blok fuel Esbit is very toxic and sometimes influenced the taste of your food😅 the Dutch army switched to little propane burners. When I was in the Dutch army I was deployed for KFOR on a base with the 82nd. Talking about well funded. They had complete fast food restaurants like a KFC and they're kitchen had 24 hour food with steaks, burgers, all types of meat, fries, a cake bar, all types of soda like a food heaven. Soldiers also were walking around with plates of meat and.... miracle whip😂
Sound like you were in paradise.
I was in the German army, deployed in a Dutch camp (1(NL) Arty Bn RA KFOR 1) in a comunication squadron in KFOR. Sleeping in Dutch tents, in wich you got baked during daytime and the canteen was only open 3 times a day (the camp didnt even had a own kitchen), but at least all you can eat
@@wolf310ii I know what you mean. Were you in Ohrahovac with the 11 AFDRA or Prizren?
@@MarcelL-DM My battalion i was deployed to was in Prizren, but my squadron (sqd because it wasnt even a full platoon) was in Orahovac.
When i was there, '99 a few months after the start of KFOR, it was the 1(NL) Arty Bn RA, thats what my engraved Leatherman says that they gifted us at the end.
@@wolf310ii I was also part of KFOR 1 as part of the NSE. We did all the supplies to all Dutch camps. RE stands for Rijdende Artillerie and means or Horse Artillery. I later became a sergeant with the Gele Rijders and you probably remember the distinctive hat they wear 😂
@@MarcelL-DM I can only remember one of my tent traded a bottle of booze for one of that hats (only 2 bottles of beer per man and evening was allowed, because of the dutch rules), but cant really remember how they looked like, alsmost no one wore a hat in the camp. What i can remember is the dutch pants, were you could take of the legs and the dutch girls wore them one number to small as hot pants
Here is "my" real story, on a (NATO) maneuver in Denmark, We got MRE's for the first 2 days (I'm German)...
there was " EPA " number 4! Insiders know what that means!!!! ;) " Goulash with noodles ", on the first day , and on the 2nd there was... " Noodles with goulash "
and what does the “kitchen bull” do on the third day? EXACTLY he made the leftovers from the 2 days before because no food had arrived yet!!!
No wonder we cooked canned ravioli with vodka and red wine out of desperation (to forget about it)
I’m kinda just in chock that they really put a fucking ”pizza slice” in a mre. Like they didn’t even try💀
ok, you call any ragù a "bolognese sauce" that's the third best way to start a war
Actually, canned food *can* be amazing (yes, that's a pun, but also the truth).
If you had ever tried Spanish canned food ("conservas"), you would know what I mean.
(BTW, Portuguese combat rations include Spanish-made "conservas".)
At least she didn't give him the chili mac MRE; everything I've heard from veterans/service members is that it tastes great, but wreaks havoc on the digestive system. 😮😮
I don't think she gave him a complete MRE. I've had them before, and remember each one coming with more than that.
maybe there was something even more ofensive than the pizza in it and she couldnt bring herself to give it to him :P ...not sure what that would be though... maybe one of those yellow square things labeld parmesan?
What about reacting to Germans test MREs? If they does not like it, they will show it directly..😁 It can be a new series of videos.. Ore taste them for yourself..
You can jst tell, that the american one is full of carbons while the italian is full of nutrition and other essentials. I mean american solgier cant live of those rations in a war continuing 10+ days. They will get tired faster etc.
Americans starving in the battlefield 😂
I remember my dad telling me that US army privates in a camp they had with the British, were swapping US 3 day ration packs for UK 1 day packs.
You made a point at 10:40 it's chow, warm&nutricious as could be
Where tf does that American army budget go?! Only into bullets?
How can we poor European countries treat our army better?
It's mind-blowing how much more Italy cares about their troops
The slice of pizza looked REALLY small. Just imagine walking through the woods for hours and then you get this for dinner.
i think the US was the first country to introduce MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) which their soliders soon re-named as 'Meals Rarely Edible' or 'Massive Rectal Explosions' lol
I've heard "Meals Rejected by the Enemy"
Korean englishman has one where they swap with the korean military, its hilarious
I'd hate to be the poor private voluntold to give up his chili mac so the PR folks can have fun at his expense ...
I'm going to post the same comment about the US MRE that I posted in the original video: if the enemy doesn't kill you, your rations will. 😆
As past french military, I can say ours have better taste than americans but it's less "operational" (don't know how to say). Your's are better for battlefield, as you said. No fire is good, and just put it and wait 👌
Diplomacy abounds..... Wouldn't want America to go to war with Italy - or vice versa!
And noone realized the parachute invasion in the background xD
I've seen it, was wondering what it was at first😅 Then it hit me😂
Check out iss rations. Some were cooked and then developed for space by a german Star Chef.
`Slightly different subjet, but a few weeks ago I worked out how much the UK spends on the NHS eacy year. For the year ending 2022 - `23 it spent approximately £180 bn. That works out at about £6000 per second. We are about 1/6 the population of the USA, so it would approximate the USA spending £36,000 per second / $40,000.
I wonder how much the USA does actually spend on health care, per year, per month, per week...........per second.
Nah dude MRE around the world are pretty good. For field and war food.
I have to say... if that canned chicken meat in jelly is similar in taste as the ones I bought a few times in our stores... I completely agree that it tastes weird... pork, beef or luncheon meat are awesome though.
good thing about rations, you are usually very hungry when you eat and then everything taste better 😉
The nice thing is because of NATO doctrine all the countries MRE have the same concept with cultural differences.
Peanut butter and crackers is not universal at all, I've had peanut butter only once in my life, and it was a souvenier from the US. Didn't want to try it a second time 😂I think it can now be bought from more specialized stores here, but only US fanboys tend to buy it here
Peanut butter is massive in Northern America, not so much in the rest of the World
Canned foods can be absolutely amazing, especially if you have access to water and heating. One of my all time favourite foods Finnish hernekeitto (green pea soup) is always bought as canned version. Spam can also be amazing, and a lot of people ofc love canned tuna (I'm allergic to something used in it's making/preservation, so wouldn't know. Funnily enough, I'm not allergic to the actual tuna)
Yeah here in Germany peanut butter isn't really big. You probably can get it in most supermarkets tho. Some german produced american style peanut butter. It's not good and pretty useless for cooking.
Personally as I love using peanut butter/peanut paste for cooking, I buy the dutch ones in a asian supermarket.
Not US fan boys but people that go to the gym love peanut butter. Cheap high protein low carb snack. Black people often buy it too.
The US rations seem incredibly low on energy or nutritional value x
MREs are single meals, the italian kit is for a day, so yeah, it's bigger 😉
Wait for conscription ,,,,,, you’ll love it
I was in the military for like...7 days?? In Norway. I do not know what I'm talking about. But I have lifted a LOT of iron and trained martial arts for tens of years. I have never eaten this much in a day ever!! And why not just protein powder, some fat, sugars and vitamins?? This looks like a logistical nigthmare if you have like 10 000 soldiers for months!! :)
MRE arent for feeding 10000 soldiers for months (do that and you have a mutiny after a month) and that would be logistical way easier than having a kichten and canteen with a huge staff, cooking all day.
With MRE you only need to airdrop a few palettes with MRE once a week
Man, I hate minestrone. I had to eat it every single evening when I lived with my grandma😂
Hi Ryan. This kind of food was design for survive.Im polish.Love your chanel. Try polish war time food!!!
What I like most is to see all these nations doing this fun stuff together and not being at war against each other. NATO is a good invention ❤
True
No one commenting about the parachute drop at 7:13 in the background?
Nothing wrong with cold canned ravioli, I've eaten the ravioli straight out of the can cold several times because I couldn't be bothered to heat it up.
I hate peanut butter in any way or forme, that is anything but universal. It's a very American thing. Hazelnut cream, almond cream, really any real nut tastes better.
Wait did she ask an ITALIAN whether he ever heard of Minestrone??? XD
Look up "British 24 hour Combat Operational Ration Pack".
I think US food is better. It may not taste as good, but it is intended to be a temporary solution and only be used for a few days. Afterwards they usually end up in a camp where there is better food anyway. The Italians have to carry too much with them.
The Italian is not a MRE but a K-Ration (an old K-Ration, the Italian ratio has no longer the stove for several years) that is used in mission and contain the food for an entire day.
Dont look at Portugal MRE... its a full day meal !
The first time i watched the original video i cringed so bad, now? Its the same

Try the french ones, they are amazing.
Hello, I have an interesting question. Could you in one video react to a video about Finno-ugric languages, I believe this could be very interesting to hear languages that have nothing to do with English, German, Polish or French.

Italian soldiers having a full three course meal for dinner!
And pasta both at lunch and dinner? 😂😂😂
Of course pasta at both! It's carb heavy which is ideal for a soldier on deployment
All the K rations - of every country - have the same calories (4000).
7:10 ... It´s raining men
Why would you assume the American is being dishonest? What would be the point of making the video of they weren't going to share their HONEST opinions? If anything I would have assumed the American palate to be generally inferior to that of Europeans. Particularly Italians and French! Obviously an Italian MRE is going to be better than an American one, just think about it for a second... Italian food is the most popular in America for a reason
I don't want to be mean but the Spanish "bricks" are much better than that Yankee thing.
I have eaten some and they have very good preserves. The only problem is that you have to heat them with a kind of oven and I suppose that in the rain and in the countryside you need to be covered and dry.
Italian? Are you sure it’s not German food? Because Americans love hamburgers
There’s not a single Italian food being shown on Statistia wich is a very reputable website
So are the Italians getting a new toothbrush, cutlery etc everyday? That seems ridiculous.
Each dealy pack has 3 toohbrushes 1 for each meal.
video would of been shorter if she gave him a pineapple pizza
As a kid in germany the americans do a lot of military manouvre. And we Kids get alot of mre in change for beer 😀. But there was chocolate and Coffee and stuff in it.
The better the army, the bader the food
That chicken in jelly is really chicken pate ,Americans don't really like pate I think !
Lots of American erm mostly for 1 meal (easiers to carry in pockets and don't need to to stay with big package after eating 2/3 of ration). Italian one designet for day - 3 meals (less package so cheaper to produce and for logistics)
The big difference is, the italian MRE is for serval days (even called 24 hour ration), while the US MRE is only one meal with a lot of plastic waste in the bag.
Also for most european MRE you usually need water only for the drinks, not to prepare the meal like US one and you can eat the meals even cold.
when I was young during the military rookie year in the italian mountain troops our allies during the nights of the military camp trainer came to change your coke bottles with our alcool grappa bottles😂 ......the best jobs time
I would think military rations would be to give you enough energy to keep you going, be quick to make and and conserve space.
The Italian seems to forget that.
the Italian ration you see is the standard one, in the premium one the waiter comes out asking for the orders
Then comes back two hours later with something you didn't order, mutters "Vaffanculo" and expects a tip.
does not expect a tip but everything else is on point 😂
What? No comb and nail file in the food package? 😂
Have you ever seen an overweight US Soldier?
For video ideas like that you really need to find an unbiased video. It's essentially a PR video and therefore totally useless when you are interested in any of their honest opinions.
The American MRE's are designed to be carried in your pack. You don't want to do that with canned food. That would weigh you down big time.
once upon a time there was the cordiale(alcool) in the ration
