    You've explained in less than 2 minutes about bitmap and vector what others have taken over 20 minutes to explain. Plus the fact I can create my own Doodly images, where I thought you had to buy the add-on packs. You've saved me a lot of time and money. Thanks.

      LOL, They have now made it MUCH easier now. In an update version you can now bring in raster (GIF, JPG) images and add your own animation paths to it. However, I agree it still is a laborious task to create your own animation, hence why they charge you for assets that come with pre-made animation.
      So the choice is, free, or laborious work. 😁
      I actually did a video showing me animate a complete photo. The animation building took over 6 hours.

      @@JohnDayQA that just seems rediculous. Vyond has the animations ready to choose and click and I had so much fun making (and actually finishing) a video during the trial. I got this and somewhere around the 8 hour mark of my ONE min video I forgot my initial intention because it was so tedious. Just sharing my experience and maybe I'm naive to just how laborious it has to be... But damn. Thank you for your response.

    Hi John. This video is great, straight and to the point. Super job.
    I've got one question and wondering if you can help. I've already made one vector image and put it into a doodle and it works great the paths load so I'm happy. I just created a second. This has a lot more detail its got about 40 paths within Inkspace. I've put it into Doodly but just 1 path loads. Would you know why? Is there a threshold on the amount of paths that can be imported on one vector image?
    Thanks again 👍

    • @JohnDayQA
      @JohnDayQA  2 года назад

      There is a limit to the number of paths Doodly can read (currently 50), but what normally happens is it just loads the first 50, and then ignores the rest. If it is not ready any then the path length is also an issue. If a single path has more than 32 nodes it cannot read it.
      These limitations have been raised to the Doodly team. There currently is no update on whether they are working on resolving these issues.

    Thanks for the EXCELLENT tutorial. I am a newbie using Doodle. I have downloaded an SVG file containing multiple SVG images. How can I extract one or all of the SVG images into indivudal SVG files for use in Doodly as Doodle does not like the file with all of the images? Thanks David

    • @JohnDayQA
      @JohnDayQA  2 года назад

      You want to extract the cabbed SVG file an app like GIMP which is free and save them separately. Watch out, I noticed some of those SVG files are in fact ZIP files. May be worth changing the file extension first and trying to unzip them. You never know.

      Get a photo of you. Donwload paint dot net (getpaint.net) and you can convert the photo to sketch or painting or even make a simple avatar. Doodly works with raster images now.

    Not easy to understand, I am referring to the 'paths' and holding Ctrl + clicking on the node adds a new path, is that right? It is not clear how these paths have to increase in width 'covering' the drawing? Huh? What's that? I understand how you can click on the grips/handles and reshape things but the width of paths is not easy to comprehend.

    • @JohnDayQA
      @JohnDayQA  3 года назад

      It's a 22 minute video, so, I'm not sure which few seconds you are referring to. At time 18:52, I specify {Ctrl}, and click "extends" the path. At time 18:11 I show how to make the path wider. I am sorry if this was not clearer. I'll try and add something to the video to change that.

    why the "simplified" outline only? Now how are we supposed to see how one does a color vector?

    • @JohnDayQA
      @JohnDayQA  3 года назад +1

      I did show a colour vector. It was the sun and cloud with the raindrops. I created it in PowerPoint and dropped it in. The reason I demonstrated "editing" with black only is because it simplifies the demonstration.
      If you want a full on demonstration with a colour vector, I'll be happy to oblige, but there will be nothing new involved. The editing demonstration will be exactly the same.
      Alternatively you can look at my other video which works with colour on Raster images now they have updated the software. Editing works the same way whether it is raster or vector.

      @@JohnDayQA Hi John, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The part that I was not understanding was when creating paths, I noticed when you were doing the curve at the time of 18:44 that part of the curve was not covered by the 'path' so I finally understood that the path that you trace must cover all of the geometry that you are tracing over. So I think that I may have 'got it.' Thanks again John.

      You are very welcome. I found it can be quite painful creating the animating paths for one single image using Doodly. This is why I use Inkscape to do most of the work.

      @@JohnDayQA Thanks again John for taking the time to reply, it's appreciated. I need to animate lips to make it look like they are speaking, there is a video by Doodly Official that covers the topic of making something look like it's moving. I had a look at the intro for Inkscape, are these drawn with 'paths' without the need to go over them with a 'pen' in doodly to create paths? Thank you.

    • @JohnDayQA

      @@mvdmusicvideostorefreshthe3224 I have not seen this video. As far as I know, Doodly cannot animate individual images. They cannot even animate animated GIF's or motion SVG's which is a huge shame. What they probably have done (I am guessing) is what we call a "frame-by-frame" or stop-motion effect. This is where you create a scene with images (whether you want them drawn on the screen or not). Then duplicating the image and change the settings so the images on the new scene are "not drawn". Then move certain images around on the scene to give a motion effect. You repeat this for as many scenes as you need to create an animation. However, between each scene there is a minumum delay of 0.5 seconds. This means the animation is slow and not smooth.
      With an application like Inkscape or GIMP (GIMP is better) you can create animated GIFs. This is done in a similar way by creating an image, copying it to a new "layer" and move it a little. Each layer is used as a frame. With SVG images in Inkscape, you can move part of the image rather than move or resize a whole image like on Doodly. When finished you export the result as an animated GIF and set the delay between frames (default is 40 milliseconds).
      Rather than creating layers which can be tricky you can create one image, save it, move a few objects, save another image. Repeat this and then upload all the images to a site such as gifmaker.me/ where it will create the animated GIF for you. A n example vide of this is here: ruclips.net/video/SokWRndtzfs/видео.html
      Sadly, these still cannot be used in Doodly. What you'd have to do is add your Doodly movie and the animated GIF's into a video production application such as Cyberlink powerDirector or TechSmith Camtasia and produce them so they look like they are on the same video.
