One very important thing to keep in mind regarding this knot... never, NEVER ever use it for heavy-load applications --like trying to suspend yourself or another one.

If anyone is interested, the primary use of a Square Knot is to connect two separate pieces of rope/cord effectively, making them one single longer length of rope. It's a strong and secure knot.

Yes thanks for explaining how to do this knot, and I can use it when next time when I tie the pallets togeather with strips to keep the pigs in their pen on my mates farm in Tasmania.
Granny knots are very hard to get get undone when the strips have been pulled together very tightly.

This is binding knot and should only be used in one bit of rope ,it should never be used to join two ropes together as it is unsafe and Ashley in his book of knots says that more people have died from using this knot then any others.
