  • In this video, I look at how other speakers in a guitar cabinet effect the miced speaker. A lot of videos on RUclips have compared cabinet sizes, but not how the sound of the speaker being miced can sound different when removing speakers in the same cabinet.
    Speakers Used:
    Laney H1265
    Jensen NEO 12-100
    Gear Used:
    Epiphone Sheraton II
    PRS SE50
    Recording setting up:
    Zoom H8
    Zoom Stereo XY
    Shure SM57

I liked the single laney best as a solo guitar sound. The next question is which would sound better in a mix, its a rabbit hole :)

I know sound can be subjective but the Laney in my opinion sounds the best. I think it has the cleaner sound. As for as brightness, that can be as simple as resetting the EQ. I'm sure you've messed with that though at some point

Ya the Laney sounded way better than I was expecting!
I prefer the Jenson and Celestion combo that you can hear at the end of this video: ruclips.net/video/gl64gqrYEwM/видео.html
But I think ill keep the Laney speaker for recording, Thanks for commenting!

I just got the laney irt 212 with 12"80w HH speakers and I love it. I opened the back and it sounds great, but I have a Cele Greenback 25w and I want to throw it in there .
All 3 speakers are 16ohms but what about the wattage ?

When you add speaker wattage, you take the lowest wattage speaker and multiple it by the number of speakers. So if you are keeping it a 212, it would be 25w x 2 = 50w cabinet. So you would be making a 160w cab into a 50w cab.
Not sure what amp head your using but as long as its not over 50 watts than you will not be overworking the speakers.
Since all speakers are 16ohms, as long as you wire it the same, the cab will still be the same ohms.
Greenback speakers sound amazing to my ears and it will be a great upgrade in my opinion!

Interesting comparison but I don't agree with your conclusion about speaker breakup (with caveat about youtube compression making it hard to tell). To me it sounds like the extra Laney just added some fullness and smearing of sound in the 2x12 - otherwise it was very similar. The Jensen is a competely different speaker (which sounded boxy by comparison.)
I have a Jensen neo speaker I love but according to their sales guy at NAMM guitar speakers are designed to break up at pretty much any volume up to the point of failure, which is not a desirable sound. Eminence also say speaker breakup is not directly related to power rating, but cone design and construction.

      Thank you for your input!
Listening back, I still hear more grit from the 1x12 but I think your theory makes sense for why I would be hearing that. Could also be how the transformer is working with the different speaker loads (16ohm vs 8ohms) but not sure.
Boxy is good way to describe it in comparison. I am hoping the cab will sound fuller once I pair the Jenson with the right speaker.

For me I still like the 1x12 cab. I am using a Orange Dual terror 30watts on a 1x12 75 watts 8ohms Peavey Shefield model 1230 speaker. It's a space saver and lighter ko carry when I have a gig.,Thanks for this Topic.
