In this video, I review the Mooer Tender Octaver. I use a Les Paul into a Simplifer pedal modeling a Fender Deluxe Reverb. I also use a Digitech Polara for a room sound and put the Mooer through a MXR Super Badass Fuzz for some THICK Tones. All sounds have zero processing including EQ and compression! In this video, we discuss why you would break in a speaker or if you even need to at all. A guitar speaker is used to demonstrate the tonal difference starting at 5:00, but this concept applies to bass speakers, home stereos, car speakers or any other speaker. We also discuss 3 Tips to improve the speaker break in process and what methods can be used. More comparisons of speakers in this cab ca...

Can you jump between presets while playing live
Yup! If you hit the "Tap Tempo" switch once, than the "On/Off" switch immediately after, you can continue to hit the switch and it will scroll through presets for you. Once you stop on the preset number you want, it will become active. A lot of people mod these pedals to accept an external switch for presets as well, but I feel that it works well enough as is. Hope that helps!
Everything about your video is awesome. Great tones, informative, demo'd using good riffs
Appreciate the support!
Jesus... Night and day. I have have the bj4 with type A ... I didn't think it was gonna be this severe
I am a patient boy!
3 minutes and already liked this video, you explain everything really clear and to the point.
I appreciate your positive feedback!
Glad I found this video!
I almost gave up on Ampeg... Very informative!
Glad it helped!
I absolutely love how you made the compassions. I have my own opinions, but you showed me a true FAIR expression! Much appreciated! Very informative,!
Great video! ThanX, man!
The cabinet sucks
After comparing a number of other combo's and stacks, I bought the SVT. Initially it was not that appealing in isolation, After getting it home I really started to understand what a beast the VR is.
great comparison, and def try other cabs,. my Micro SVT sounds 10x better when paired with stock cab and my 1X12 Genzler. that it does with just the stock cabs. ( i do have 2)
I have thought about that setup too! I love the Micro SVT cab but adding a 1x12 could fill out some low end that the 2x10 lacks, thanks for sharing!
Thank for presentation. But I wont to know how to reset factory preset
I couldn't figure out of to do a factory reset, but if you really wanted the factory presets, you could manually change the settings back. You can find the factory preset settings in the last page of the manual: www.manualslib.com/manual/532587/Tc-Electronic-Nd-I-Nova-Delay.html?page=18#manual I know its not as easy but I hope it helps!
The comments I read on the Micro SVT DI are what had kept me on the fence about getting one. These audio samples kinda put that to rest and I think I'm gonna pick one up
What is the regular Blues Jr have the type A?
Yes the Blues Jr. IV has an A-Type, older models had a Fender branded speaker
@@DisorderlySoundStudios nice 👍
I use the Micro VR with a 15. I’m considering getting an overdrive pedal used primarily as a boost to distort this amp but the sound I get already is amazing. It’s not the loudest thing in the world but it seems to be able to work in a band since it pushes air from a wider surface area with the 15.
Thanks for sharing! I use an overdrive somethings for heavier stuff but it definitely sounds great on its own! It would be nice to have a little extra headroom but I have never had a problem keep up with my 3 piece.
ミルコクロコップ!!
These A/B tests are great but there’s no A/B test in a live music setting. Pick one and go 💯
hai kids, always spirited...
PF
How does the new venture rate against these two ?
Definitely wanna try out the Venture! I have a feeling it will sound similar to the PF350 but with some nice extra features.
Aucune différence
Thank you for this video. Same issue with playing in an appartment and want to play a real acoustic kit. Regards from Sweden 🎼🥁🎼🥁🎼
Nailed it! But the question is, would you rather play guitar with octave down like the White Stripes or bass with octave up like Royal Blood?
Lol! Good question! That's a tough one, but I think I would pick Royal Blood bc octave up bass fills out more than octave down guitar and in a two piece you wanna fill out as much as possible
@@DisorderlySoundStudios facts
When you have the Tweed going into the BJ cabinet (I assume that's what the arrow means?), it sounds SUPER dark. When you have the BJ going into the Tweed cabinet it sounds SUPER bright/thing. I can't imagine there is this much difference just swapping the amplifier (or speakers, depending on how you look at it). The difference is extreme. Were the settings you showed on camera the actual settings they were set to for this? I'm just confused how this could make such a massive day and night difference. I've listened to a lot of speaker and amp shootouts and usually the difference between any two is not so extreme.
I agree! I was surprised at the difference as well, I assure you that all settings shown are arcuate. At times, I use the same settings when switching cab/speaker in order to eliminate that variable, so what your hearing is only the effect of speaker and cab, and not EQ. (no post processing was done either). Speakers can make a HUGE difference!
@@DisorderlySoundStudios Man, that just seems crazy. I know cabs can make a moderate difference, but not that much. And speakers can obviously sound way different from one another, but I wouldn't expect such a massive difference between the voicing chosen for two very similar fender 12ax7 based tube amps. Man, that's really really crazy....
Honestly, I like the Blues Junior a bit better. Also, why does your camera pan to settings that obviously aren't correct (ie. tons of reverb present, but reverb knob at zero)?
Thank you for your question! The reason the reverb is at 0 but you are still hearing reverb is bc I used a pedal for reverb so that it was consistent between amps (the Tweed has no reverb built in). I assure you that all settings shown are correct. Blues Jr. is great!
@@DisorderlySoundStudios Aaaahhhhh, that totally makes sense. I probably skipped that part of the video! My bad! That's a very believable spring verb pedal 😂 Either way, thanks for the great video!
Weren't they forced to change the name and circuit because it was a part by part knockoff?
Interesting! I was not aware, but that makes sense bc it looks like they are using a different circuit for the MKII
I know sound can be subjective but the Laney in my opinion sounds the best. I think it has the cleaner sound. As for as brightness, that can be as simple as resetting the EQ. I'm sure you've messed with that though at some point
Ya the Laney sounded way better than I was expecting! I prefer the Jenson and Celestion combo that you can hear at the end of this video: ruclips.net/video/gl64gqrYEwM/видео.html But I think ill keep the Laney speaker for recording, Thanks for commenting!
Nice Dano! I have the same one.
I find many contradictions. You say you don't like the feel of e cymbals, but you opt for the worst triggers. The false hits, the double hits, the almost impossible possibility of playing ghost notes. That's annoying. Another aspect is that low volume cymbals, even if they are Zildjan, sound horrible. That's also very annoying. You say you want to get as close as possible to an acoustic kit, but you buy the most basic module! It was worth every penny if you bought the Edrum-in midi interface. Anyway... we learn from our mistakes.
I prioritized feel over sound, so the cymbal sound and cheap module does not annoy me. But I agree that false hits can be a problem. I have found low volume cymbals that sound good and plan to make more updates too, I will release a an update video in the future so stay tuned! No mistakes, just improvements:)
I use the PF-800. It does make a difference Live. Especially if u play Death Metal. Louder is better in certain types of Music. 🥷 200 doesn't hit the same as 350 no matter what ya mouth says and 350 doesn't hit like a 500 and a 500 doesn't hit live like a 800 on Bass. I know cause I've used all 3 many Times. The 800 gets much louder. 🤟
Makes sense! For my 3 piece band it definitely cuts through, but I can see it not being enough in a band with two half stacks, especially for metal. 800 watts will definitely let you feel the bass!
@DisorderlySoundStudios Indeed. I mean... each Artist has a way they prefer so to each his own but for me, as a Bassist in Metal over the years, I been drowned out by double, powerful, half staccs many Times to where nobody could hear me. I eventually came to the conclusion in a Band setting, I'd rather have too much Power and dial it down as needed than not have enough. One of many things I Love 💙 about #Ampeg is they offer many different versions to us Artists so we can find what's right for our current Gig or session. If I wanna go ultra light, like for a plane, I can just take Brooklyn and me Ampeg SGT-DI. If I got a Metal Gig or a incredibly loud Band practice, I got me PF-800 which I call SoFi. She's the best Amp I've ever owned. She's expensive tho'. If I was in a situation in which I couldn't afford her, I'd use gear like the SGT-DI until I could. Ampeg does make some terrific smaller practice Amps as well and I'd have no problem using those. Ampeg has awesome Tones no matter the size of the Amp imo. Thanks for the response 🤟
My friend, to get the full beauty of the Blues Jr, you have to crank the master volume all the way to 11 or 12, then preamp volume between 4-8 for taste. Yes, it's LOUD, so put your attenuator on it. This is how you will get those beautiful, full, warm, round tones you never knew were there.
And meant to say, great comparison video BTW
Totally agree about the Master! For preamp I prefer to keep it under 5 bc I still don't love the overdrive, Thank you for your input my friend!
"it's not smokeable" :(
great review! thank you!
I did the same thing as well, converted to a electric set
I just got the laney irt 212 with 12"80w HH speakers and I love it. I opened the back and it sounds great, but I have a Cele Greenback 25w and I want to throw it in there . All 3 speakers are 16ohms but what about the wattage ?
When you add speaker wattage, you take the lowest wattage speaker and multiple it by the number of speakers. So if you are keeping it a 212, it would be 25w x 2 = 50w cabinet. So you would be making a 160w cab into a 50w cab. Not sure what amp head your using but as long as its not over 50 watts than you will not be overworking the speakers. Since all speakers are 16ohms, as long as you wire it the same, the cab will still be the same ohms. Greenback speakers sound amazing to my ears and it will be a great upgrade in my opinion!
@@DisorderlySoundStudios Thanks for your reply!
Sure seems to move nice mids forward
This was a great video! I’ve seen people suggest breaking in speakers by just letting the amp feedback. Do you know how that method would compare to your method?
Thank you! I would not recommend having your amp feedback for the many hours it would take to break-in a speaker (would be hard to keep constant). Additionally, the high frequency content of feedback would not move the speaker as much. Hope that helps!
First half of vid sounds better to my ears. Nice mids
Good video 👍🏼
Thanks 👍
This is a great video! I haven’t seen many people including the tips to crank the bass and mids or providing side-by-side comparisons of the speakers before and after break in. The spectral analyzer was also a nice touch. Well done! I’d like to talk to you about sending some product for use in your reviews. If you’re open to it, what’s the best way to get in touch?
so, if i want to bypass simplifier and use a real tube amp, I'll just use one instrument cable and connect the L output to my real tube amp input after enabling the THRU knob . And if i want to use it as a drive pedal or a preamp i will use the R output and enable the SUM mono knob. Right? Also what happens if i just connect either of L/R output to amp input without enabling any knob. No sound?
For your first question: Yes that is exactly what you would do, then you could use the XLR out as a DI while still playing through a real amp. Second question: Honestly not sure if what you described will work but it makes sense to me. You could also go out the preamp "Send" into the the front of your amp to use it as a drive/preamp pedal. (This will bypass the cab sim which is what you would want). Last question: You would still get sound but the Cab Sim would be in your signal and it would sound undesirable. (Although tone is subjective so you might like it). If by "without enabling any knob" you mean that you set every knob to zero including the volume, than yes, no sound.
I liked the single laney best as a solo guitar sound. The next question is which would sound better in a mix, its a rabbit hole :)
I would love to see a comparison between the SVT Micro VR and the RB210.
wayy outta tune
Very true lol, but I was already to far in before I noticed
Such a great pedal. Why it was discontinued boggles my mind. They have a newer but the pedal is a lot bigger. The nova was perfect.
Totally agree! I do think the sound lacks a little character, but the versatility makes up for it and if I were to only have one delay- this would be it. (which is why it is currently my only delay lol)
I just bought a spare one used just in case
Sound samples at 6:51
Thank you so much, this is awesome.
Longview riff is class.
Truly Awesome!!!
