The Beach Boys' songs give a picture of a kind of ideal lifestyle. Mike Love (of the Beach Boys) once asked song writer Brian Wilson what their songs have that make them so popular and Brian replied, "The joy of living in a very simple way."

The 60s were a time of rebellion, kids defying their parents etc, so the "bad guys" that they are referring to in this song are the guys that the kids are rebelling against, parents, teachers, policemen etc. "My buddies and me are getting real well known, yeaaaaaah the bad guys know us and they leave us alone", meaning nobody is going to f**k with them now because they are making themselves known, they are getting around, they have found a new place where the people are the same as them, hip, rebellious etc. Love it.

my fave Beach Boys song is Don't Worry Baby. I moved to So Cal some years ago ( from the UK!) and when I drove my car along the coast with the Beach Boys on the radio and a girl sittting with me, I realized I was actually in a Beach Boys song.

when you get to Don't Worry Baby watch this version. It captures the feeling so well. It was a sadly nostalbig dreamy song when it came out. By the time I was listening to it in the 80s it was an oldie. But I had a red 64 Corvette which had an am/fm radio and sometimes I would listen to the am oldies station and when I heard this song I was literally in a time machine driving on the coast to get a milkshake by a stand on the beach . It was like I was in some sort of dream. And I think of my old car and old girls from college.

“I fucking love that song!” Lol I second your excitement man. Amazing song. However my favorite Beach Boys song is “Good Vibrations”. Can’t wait for your reaction to that. It hits #1 in 1966.
Only backstory about “I Get Around” that I know of is that it was in the recording sessions that Brian Wilson fired his own father as the group’s manager. His father, Murry, was an asshole. He was upset about Brian giving away “Surf City” to Jan & Dean, and during the sessions of “I Get Around” he criticized Brian’s production techniques, called him a loser on more than one occasion, and claimed no one in The Beach Boys had as much talent as himself. So, Brian fired him! His own father! So the legend of Brian Wilson was born.
JUST MISSED: Here’s Millie Small’s annoying as hell “My Boy Lollipop”, which peaked at #2 behind “I Get Around”. Listen at your own risk! 😂 m.ruclips.net/video/dwrHCa9t0dM/видео.html
JUST MISSED x2: Johnny Rivers’ “Memphis” also peaked at #2 behind “I Get Around”. However, I love this song, and I actually used to live in Memphis once upon a time. Here it is: m.ruclips.net/video/IAc0FKyBgks/видео.html

Beach boys are the best. Timeless music no matter what age you are and Im 24. Loved them since my teen years. You should react to 'surfin usa' & 'wouldnt it be nice' by them. Many catchy hits

Fun fact, according to Billboard magazine, The Beach Boys actually had their first #1 in Sweden believe it or not back in 1962 with Surfin' Safari. I found that out when looking at their Hits of the World section in old Billboard magazines and I find it surprising they hit #1 outside the US before they did here. Also if I had to pick a favorite song of theirs, this would be up there but I'd choose Fun Fun Fun

Hard to pick a favorite Beach Boys song. Maybe Surf's Up, just for the harmonies.
