#1 SONG FROM THE LATE FALL OF 1964, EARLY '65. MY PERSONAL FAVORITE .
This was one of my two or three favorites from the Supremes. Nice, simple song, great drums.
Mary Wilson's smokey alto filler voice & Florence Ballard's soulful soprano voice sound so beautiful.. Beautiful SUPREME harmonies.. Magical.. Long live The Supremes..
The great Diana Ross and the Supremes.
It's an amazing treat to see you hear this FABULOUS record for the first time!!! I completely agree with your take on this record also. There aren't words to describe how perfect I think this song is.
It was a mega hit......Radio actually started playing the song from the album ......when nella dodds single was released Motown had to rush release the Supremes version.....it's debut on billboard charts @#66-31-13-8-4+1-2-2-2+1-5-8.......nine weeks on top 8.....seven top 4 .....five on top 2 .......#1 (twice)
a mega hit on radio and retail too
My favorite Supremes song!
Dianna Ross and the Supremes never put out a dog. Their harmony was right there with the Everly Brothers.
Flo and Mary singing vocals …….”baby for you…..” are awesome ……
This one would really get people dancing. A great platter to get a party moving.
Coming after Where Did Our Love Go and Baby Love, this is somewhat overshadowed by them but just as great as its predecessors. Glad you loved it as much as I did.
MOTOWN put out some of the best music groups ever. Thanks for the play.
It was number one for two weeks. It knocked the Beatles out of. number one, then it was kncked out by the Beatles. The n the Supremes performed it on Ed Sullivan and it rose to knocked the Beatles out of number one for a second week. This rrepresented three number one is a row which was unheard of . Ultimately they had five number one's in a row.
Did I miss the reaction to Lorne Greene’s number “Ringo” which was a number one between leader of the pack and Mr. lonely.
Hi Jesse - unfortunately, it was blocked worldwide :(
I heard it a thousand times through the years so over played in the USA but it's a great song.
TBH, I'm not as big a Supremes fan as I am of other Motown groups, although I do like this song. I just feel like some of their other stuff is more pop than soul. Many will strongly disagree with me, I know.
They were intended to be more pop. Berry Gordy wanted them to be his crossover queens. That it is exactly what he got!
