    I have the same van, 2012 and been driving it since 2013 without any issues. The best van I have ever had and rides smoothly. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about, period. In many ways he appreciated this vehicle in his review than not. By the way I change the oil and of course I check the dipstick without any problem and open and closed the rear door 1000's of time, come on!! Are you this lazy not to maintain a car that serves you?

      He is right about CVT's, they are designed to fail much quicker than old school geared transmissions..It got plenty of plastic parts and a rubber band. I will never own a vehicle with a CVT if I can avoid it for the rest of my life, but if not..it still would not be the Nissan as he is correct about that as well...the worste

    Bruh, it's got so many miles and its obvious that this minivan was not well taken care of. 190,000 before trans went isn't a big deal and shouldn't be a complaint. Then you bought an old trans where you assumed the risk. Yeah, you had a little bit of bad luck, but can't agree with your gripes. We have an LE, it's basically a very reliable near luxury car. Was really looking to forward to hear your gripes and waited a very long time. I was expecting a lot worse, but I was underwhelmed. The average car doesn't live as long as yours. The Quest's CVT is regarded by the experts very highly. Where the Quest ranks low is the safety tests. Thanks for your opinion though.

    Nissan Quest is one of the best Vans to buy for the money! It has one less seat compared to our vans out there! It's 1/2 of the price of other vans. Very comfy and very solid. 3.5 V6 Engine is the same as 350 Z so that engine does not die. Tranny is great but u have to change the oil every 30K miles. Amalie 72886 56 Universal Synthetic CVT is the best oil out there, in fact it's better than Nissan's oil. Amalie is the best technology advance lubing system. I have a 2016 and has over 280K miles and still runs and rides good. This guy does not have a clue! First choice to buy a Van, Toyota, Honda, Nissan but as i said, the price of Nissan Quest is almost 1/2 of Toyota and Honda. So the money u save it's the money u can always use to replace the trans. $2,500 for a good used part and labor.

    Hi thanks for the video and a little history of the quest that was nice, I have a small opinion. You got a used van with 183xxxs high miles then the trans gave out at 193xxx. Then you got a used trans with 93xxx high miles (hard to know if the trans was maintain proper with those miles)and kept it till 233xxx miles the sent it to someone else. The dealership helped out with some of the cost so you didn't broke the bank.🤔 Personally besides the transmission issue and door, I think that quest is damn reliable. Imagine with proper maintenance wow damn good van oh and those other issues I would just fix myself. Dealers would charge alot of those fixes. thanks again and thumbs up!👍

  • @dragonsfart
    @dragonsfart 5 лет назад +8

    A seven year old van with 233,000 miles on it and you call that unreliable? While the van might not suit your family for a variety of reasons, any vehicle that achieves that level of service (without any major issues, of course) is *reliable* in my book. I am an owner of a 2012 Nissan Quest SV which has 110,000 km (yes kilometres) on it and I'm happy that it hasn't given me any major trouble in seven years. The biggest issue I had was that the rear A/C lines had a leak and getting the part for that at a decent price from Nissan required a trip into NY state to pick it up. It was 1/2 the price of the same part in Canada.
    This van is not sexy looking, it doesn't have any of the advanced tech features newer vans (or the SL/LE models) have and it's heavy but it has taken the family to Florida and back three times. I wouldn't want to do a super long distance drive with seven people, but for the six of us, it has been very good. The problems that I would note with the van are the following: (1) it does not achieve the fuel economy that it was marketed with, (2) it has very poor off-centre crash safety at 40 km/h and (the biggest issue) (3) is that my Nissan DEALER (!) refuses to change the CVT transmission fluid on it because he said that after changing the fluid these vans have a high rate of transmission failures. That is the main reason why I don't think we'll keep this van. If the DEALER is worried about fluid changes, then I'm extremely worried.

    • @ThatCarVlogChannel
      @ThatCarVlogChannel  5 лет назад +3

      I could have easily forgiven all the other things if it weren't for the back to back cvt failures. We did take the van from east Tennessee to central Illinois and back, probably near 1500 miles that week alone, and it went great.
      I miss the nissan quality of the past. I had a 1994 nissan pickup that had 270k on it when I traded it and it was still a great truck. But I was 21 at the time... oops.

    • @dragonsfart
      @dragonsfart 5 лет назад

      @@ThatCarVlogChannel I posted my comment before I got to the part with the back-to-back CVT failures. That very much lines up with my biggest fear for my van. And having experienced how Nissan takes Canadian owners to the cleaners on repairs, I would trade the van in immediately if I suspected any kind of CVT issue.

    With all your respect, don't agree with this review because I got a 2011 Nissan Quest and I had never got a transmission problem. Most cars lifespan pretty much depends on the maintenance you give them. My van only has 60K miles and is a year older than this one... Engine runs perfectly!! and inside is spotless...I think my car will go for anohter 10-15 years. Every time I take it to the nissan they always ask me If I want to trade it; they can't believe that it looks like new :). Just saying any car in the market needs maintenance if you want them to last longer... but that car being a year newer than mine and it has 173k more miles than mine .. tells its own story.

      If you can find out whether or not it has the original trans I would start there, not really sure myself how to determine that. Otherwise take it easy on the trans, don't be too hard on it. If you notice it start slipping then it may not be too long before you need to repair or replace. As for the dealer, it's not a nissan dealer, just a used car lot, so most likely wouldn't be of any help for trans, but dealer name is Hepperly Auto Sales, should be easy search on google
