- I wanted this Quirky Van for Car Camping. 2004 Nissan Quest 3.5 SL Limited Edition in Autumn Red Metallic. I really liked the interior layout and wanted this old nissan minivan for car camping, stealth camping, van conversion for vanlife. But the TCU failing and ECU issues were too much for me.

the seats actually fold nearly flat into the floor. I lived in one for two years. I owned three of this model. One had 350,000 miles on it when it got rid of it. I still want another one.
What to look out for..what are the common problems
I was told by a mechanic that they’re pretty solid. Transmissions can maybe be a weak link if anything. Motor mounts on Nissans aren’t that great. Toyota siennas have the best reliability out of the vans but the seats don’t go down into the floor and the doors aren’t as big I do think they’re tougher than the Honda Odyssey of the same or even later years. I did have tranny issue but it was 300,000 miles of hard driving. So I feel I got good use out of it. I got a 2014 ford transit connect and I already have to rebuild the transmission at 130k.
@@dangrbitchdamn bro that looks extremely tight in there to be living in for a year straight hope you got a house now
No, its huge compared to other minivans!!!@@neteoneteo4321
I remember the commercials for this van when it came out. Was super cool. Especially the sunroof. Though I know this one doesn't have that. That center dash and the sunroof were super sleek.
The power actuated rear vents are great with kids but it is actually a detractor to converting to a camper.
I love that center console so tucking much
I have this van and have been thinking about converting it.
GREAT NISSAN.
It is a good van.
We had a 1989 Plymouth Grand Voyager that had the electric rear vent windows like your Quest does.
Debating which minivan to get for camping. At the moment I'm considering the Nissan Quest. I'm kind of sold on the Caravan and Town and Country for the stow and go seats. Would you say that the quest has similar "floor"-to-ceiling space as one of those? I'm suspecting less... Looking at those seats folded down here, it seems that there's not a whole lot more floor / ceiling height than I get in my SUV with all the seats folded flat. Hard to get a sense of scale, though.
Thanks for this video, very comprehensive. Greetings from the Wet Coast🇨🇦
I always go by the rule if I see too many of one making model of one vehicle in a used car lot that is usually a very bad sign and in my area there seems to be a lot of Dodge Chrysler minivans and used car lots
I own one and I have a SL class and I'm trying to find out what's with the door remote do you know anything about that
I hate when manufacturers put in a tan/beige/light brown interior, but then the steering wheel and a few panels are black.... Anyway, there are SO MANY red flags with this particular car, you should run as fast as you can away from it... It’s probably not worth the dirt it stands on. The model itself is probably good, but find a better one if you’re really set on getting one.
As I watched this video I was yelling nooooo!!!, I was a Nissan master tech in the states for 13 years and that year of quest had so many known issues. Corrosion on the grounds and ground cable to trans might be where those codes were coming from.
Oh no I’m about to buy one @ 130k miles @ 2,500k 😞
Ive been fine have one at140,000
Yep, the main ground wide went south but was an easy fix. The bigger issue is the mainframes rust out as the A/C tube drips direct on the frame rails causing them rust. There was a hidden warranty on that part back in the day. Lastly, the ECU computer box was mounted outside (unlike most cars where it's mounted under the passenger seat) and could be damaged by corrosion and water infiltration. If you can get to it soon enough, you can remove it, clean it up and seal it once and for all. If the control until fries, It's a several thousand dollars repair. Oh, and the timing chain guide nylon guide breaks an the chain rattles. Eventually it will skip an out the van out of timing (however it is a non-interference engine so no serious damage. Have to remove the engine to fix a $71 part which gets really expensive
So what year is good to buy
Cvt or auto trans
I have an 05 Altima, it is sweet! I think that will be a good car.
Кнопку нажми слева сбоку и будет D ))))
DONT BUY IT! NOOOOOO! I own one. They are a constant source of work and repairs. They do come loaded with everything. $2k is a good price. We paid $3,500 for ours. Ours is Gold. The 04 is the test year for it. Ours has no rust. What a joke a car can be rejected for rust in your state. In Michigan, it would be like every other car. Why is it a car in one state is fine to own, yet another state it is bad because of rust. Thats sad.
2007 Nissan Quest S With Options 69K Millage Drove Like a New Van looked like a new one OTHER Then the headlights got in a Accident in 2017 Drove it back from Florida To NJ Every year even after the accident worked great never broke down but everyone has a diffrent van they can't all be the same
I’m in Georgia, and there are basically no limits on rust down here, really because it’s just not a problem, unless a car has come from the north🤣🤣
Lol my 98 Toyota Sienna has auto rear vents lol just saying
Get a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna, far more reliable
Looked at both. Drove a few Odyssey. I would get an 05-09 Odyssey EX-L they are very nice. But everyone I’ve found had bad rust, bad running, bad transmissions. They have issues too.
Netcruzer RC TECH CARS get something newer if you can maybe 2013-2015?
I looked but I’m being cheap. Trying to find something under $5K on the road but safe and reliable. Because a new car will be a funds drain at same time as I’m paying for engine rebuild on the VW westfalia. I’m on a low/no debt plan for this. Just pay for it all outright.
124 miles per hour
No ac! No way
...
Don't do it. Cvt sucks. Get u a Honda Odyssey
This one is traditional automatic. Newer Nissan’s are CVT and the next Gen 09+ Quest is a hard pass they failed front offset crash testing bad. Older one is safer LOL
@@netcruzer that's wassup. 3.5 motors are strong as long maintenance done. Legendary motor. If motor blows up won't be a problem finding a replacement. That motor in mostly ever nissan and infinitys 😂😂😎
@@netcruzer You're wrong. The new one failed the small overlap test, it's very different from the moderate overlap test in which the old Quest got a good rating. The newer one is safer.
Good god you people are dumb this body style doesn’t have CVT!
Sell it to me
Forget it . Electrical problem can never figure it out back yard ir professional mechanic.
Wait until you have to do repairs 😑 catalytic converter prices are off the charts, oxygen sensors, cvt transmission is not good.. Nissan was sued over the cvt transmission! Good luck!
04-09 Quests don't have CVT's.
Yes for factory parts. You DO NOT put factory parts on a used vehicle. Thats just DUMB. Mine is in better shape for an 04. I do not even care about the computer and what it says on my vehicle. I live in Michigan and we just run them as is.
They don’t have CVT moron.
2004 nissian quest is a hunk of junk
