My mother was a musicians who specislised in 19th century folk music. She played pretty much any instrument, but preferred obscure ones like the hammer dulcimer. At the same time she was a product of the 60s. A lot of hippie, disco, blues, and rock to come before and practiced by her. Unfortunately my mother and best friend passed when I was 18 in 2012. When I hear songs like this I always think of her. So many meaningful lyrics in a simple melody with a complex harmony. Songs like this always reminds me of my mother so much, and I hope I never forget who brought me to music in the first place.
For those who are incredibly late to the show like I was last year this band is so worth doing research on. Each album from the first to current is super personal. I respect the band so much more and their growth. It's incredible.
amo seriamente a las personas que ponen la letra en los comentarios, no se porque lo hacen, nadie se los pide. Nadie les paga, simplemente lo hacen, es conmovedor.
Voice like a warm hug when he sings that slower bit "so long.." great lyrics as always too. This song particularly helps ease my anxiety and I love what the guitars, bass and drums are doing, it kind of shakes me out of my anxiety & depression and gets me moving. And for that I thank you all, even though I realise you won't see this. Ho hum.
That's how it works for me with a Strokes song: listen once: meh... listen twice: i think something is different... listen three times: WAIT WAT listen four times: OMFG CANT STOP
Almost two years since I stumbled upon this video and my life was changed. The song was so amazing, those vocal melodies were awesome and inmensily catchy, the way the guitars interluded and weaved around each other was fantastic, the way the tempo slowed down once that guitar solo hit, the drums just had this bouncy way around them, everything was in perfect unison. It seemed almost orchestral, as though I would never get the song out of my head. Long story short, I found The Strokes.
I am deeply in love with this song. I tried learning this song on the drums my freshman year, when a lot happened that year. I'm now a sophomore and every time I listen to this song alone, I'm flooded with nothing but sad and happy memories at the same time from last year. I can feel so much emotion being evoked by this song alone. Thank you Strokes for this master piece! :)
Julian, you and your band has once again touched my soul with this song. I have to say I felt something stir from deep within my very core INSTANTLY. No easy feat, and nothing I've ever heard has so deeply affected me as this song did as soon as the tune began, and then once again when you began to sing. Legendary doesn't begin to describe your talent, both in writing and singing. The repeat button was invented for this song.
I was interviewed for around 3-5 seconds on the news because people were protesting the gratuitous use of that word while I was walking into the theater. Everyone ended up saying they were going to see The Dark Knight.
Que lindo se siente poder escuchar esta cancion sin que te traiga recuerdos.. mas de un año esperando esto que lindo es volver a escucharla como la primera vez sin recordar a esa persona :)
Love the Billie Holliday vocal influence used on this song. Truly amazing to see modern musicians utilizing an almost forgotten genre which, if it weren't for the Swing and Big Band eras respectively, we may not have progressed musically as we have. Truly admire this band 100%
I'm very open minded when it comes to music, mainly listen to rap. But sometimes I'll come across a song like this and add it onto the playlist. Thank you NBA 2k15 lol
Lyrics: "Slip back out of whack at your best It's a nightmare So I'm joining the army No house phones, but can I still call? Will you wait for me now? We got the right to live, fight to use it Got everything but you can just choose it I won't just be a puppet on a string Don't go that way I'll wait for you And I'm tired of all your friends Listening at your door I want what's better for you So long, my friend and adversary But I'll wait for you Get dressed, jump out of bed and do it best Are you okay? I've been out around this town Everybody's singing the same song for ten years I'll wait for you Will you wait for me too? And they sacrifice their lives In our land are all closed eyes They've said it a billion times and they'll say it again So long, my adversary and friend Don't go that way I'll wait for you I'm tired of all your friends Knocking down your door Get up in the morning, yelling no more So long, my friend and adversary I'll wait for you"

When he sings "dont go that way.. I'll wait for you" it pulls me into a state of melancholy. Dont know why... the delivery and tone i guess but it hits me hard when that chorus hits.lol
This is the band to listen to when I'm tired of the complexities of my massive prog collection. These guys know how to be so minimalist yet so unique and melodic, which is pretty hard to do (for me at least). An amazing song.
been listening this for 2 years, never had a proper look at the lyrics.... it makes me wanna punch the table and mess up my room and kick the tv that "i'll wait for you, will you wait for me too" just fucking kills me...
i was always a fan of the strokes and remember the first time i heard this on pandora....dont remember the date, but i do the place and time.....up in a bucket in madison wisconsin building a three phase riser for a hyvee store being put up.......the first 15 seconds it came on and i figured out it was the strokes i was so happy. i think it was fall of 2011.
It's one of those songs where you think it's just okay at first or don't really care for it, but after listening to it a few times you begin to love it. I don't know what it is.

There's so much inspiration behind every word, every note. The Strokes often make me cry with joy.
