Eh, i think it’s just where Kevin ripped out the old (better) verse and stuck the new one in, just needed that to make it flow. Same thing with the first verse.
A singer or band will be known and loved by one maybe 2 generations, then the next big thing will come along for the next generation and they'll likely be forgotten by them. Ask any 70s-90s rock band about Generation-Z, or the reverse.

When the original ‘Borderline’ came out, it instantly became my favorite song ever. I’ve listened to it more than any other song since then, and now it’s gone. Kevin, please bring back the original at least as the single so we can all download it. I want my dark and atmospheric version back.
Couldn’t have worded it better! The first version was so intense, « darker » yet punchy in a profound way. I enjoy the second too, but surely not better. The first was my favorite track from the first seconds! Everyone hopes KP will put it back, but he won’t- he decided he didn’t like the first version so as every perfectionist, he won’t change his mind to please us and let people have choice between the 2 versions.
giant mood. i don't hate this version but god do i love the single version it is one of the few songs ive ever considered perfect. i can't believe he would just remove it from EVERYWHERE. both versions have a right to exist online. i really don't understand it and im upset one of my favorite songs just got wiped off of everything :(
ruclips.net/video/MXkZ-eeGs6A/видео.html&ab_channel=Cz%C5%82owiekDrzewo this was the original but he took it off all platforms when he released this version. he just felt like the original was missing something and tried to fix it (even though lots of people enjoy the original more)
this literally dropped as I was listening to the original borderline, I didn't expect to get the chance compare them so soon. (but I hear the base this time, and i'm vibing)
Serra Rojas I’ve listened but I keep my opinion straight. First version is waaay better. I’m actually kinda mad about Kevin changing it for the album. This one could’ve been called a “reimagined” version...
This song is like waking up before the sun comes up and getting on the road to go somewhere. Only you will know where. Also I get a sitting in a parking lot late at night with friends vibe with this song.
For me this feels like something between some absolute 2000ish peace, manifestation of word "chill" and overwhelming almost apocalyptic paranoia / horror, as if everything is falling apart
I'm a uni student moving into the city on my own for the first time, about to pursue my dream... and this song just gives those vibes... absolutely in love with it.

This song is about time and meaninglessness. the reason why it is called borderline is that he is on the 'borderline' of realizing that nothing matters
I seriously can't decide which version I love more!! The 'ahh' and 'if you and i get comfortable' are simply ICONIC but I cannot get over how funky and sexy this bass is!! And all the little extra noises AHHH idk i just LOVE IT ALL!!!

I have discovered this artist some weeks ago, and, had time to realise how it made me feel. This song gives me the feeling of something lost in time, alone and nostalgic, the lyrics are perfectly done and they seem like a lyric that wouldn't make sense, but once you try to listen.. you realize how sad the words are, the picture of this gives a backroomy vibe and it intensifies the feeling of loneliness, far, and relaxing even if a bit eerie. This is a song that I would listen over and over and over again
Man that flute just absolutely hits harder than anything else I've heard in a long time. I love how it cuts through the rest of the sounds but it isn't offensive at the same time
I love the rhythm of this song, like you can feel the even-ness of every beat, it makes for great walking music. not to mention the bass in the chorus, which is amazing how it transitions from low and mellow to very crunchy

this gives me crazy flashbacks and nostalgia. MGMT vibes heavy, and they have been around both for a while but that just shows how ahead of their time both these bands are
Maybe this new version was not necessarily him being in his head, just him finally giving in to the fact that he has to be confident with what he releases as a final product. He had to be himself. This was it.

- at 0:48 You can hear the lyric saying: ''Quite a show for a loner in LA.'' which is pronounced faster than the older Borderline.
- at 0:53 in the (Old) Borderline the lyric goes: ''Asking how I managed...''
But in the newer version the lyric goes: ''I wonder how I managed...''
- at 1:01 in the newer version the lyric that goes ''Get away'' is pronounced and vocalized in a different way than the older version.
- at 1:28 the silence before the drop. the volume noticeably decreases as you might be able to hear a sudden yet short reversed sample that is washed out with reverb. allowing the drop to stand out even more.
- at 1:59 You can hear a couple of notes playing in the far background, that help support the groove of the song.
- at 2:37 The short sudden vocal before jumping to the next part is also new.
- at 2:45 You can also hear more layers of background vocals that without a doubt made a /huge/ difference in the sound.
