The reason I like this design is that it allows a sense of continuity if Robotnik wanted to make metal sonic in that universe, but I think the head design should resemble Mecha Sonic first. This design should definitely be brought to the developers if they are making a sequel. Imagine if this design was a prototype that eventually became self aware and later on improved his design to look more like Sonic.
I hope in the movie hes the same but more realistic but that looks suits the movie

That makes sense because Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic, Boom Sonic and Movie Sonic changed Sonic's design from a series to another unlike Metal Sonic, when he was at Classic, Modern, Boom design his design didn't change through the whole series, So it most likely he won't change in the movie too.

Given that the sequel will involve Tails, it's likely that there will at least be a robot Sonic, if Silver Sonic is any indication.
He has to be in it because why would Eggman be having Sonic's spike if he's not gonna be in the second movie?

I like to imagine that Eggman would use the quill to make it, and he would actually turn blue from the electricity lighting, but only when he speeds up.
Edit: And then actually looks like a ball shaped drone to match Sonic's spin attack (and floating in for the reveal)

I think Metal's definitely gonna look more like the classic-colored version than the white version when it eventually shows up.
The mechs used in the movie FAR more resemble *Silver* Sonic/Death Egg Zone *Mecha* Sonic than any other classic Badniks; so I think that's how progression for Robotnik's aesthetic is going to go. He's going to be influenced by the other worlds/Zones he visits until the things he designs look more animal-based like those in the games, with Silver/Mecha Sonic showing the last vestiges of his _purely_ utilitarian original design sensibilities if it even shows up. Then he'll go full-tilt madhouse with his designs, Metal being his pride and joy.

This is a cool metal sonic design i imagine that he was made as a first prototype for eggman to beat sonic in the second movie without the iconic coloured blue design on metal sonic and later on it will be coloured back on his blue design when eggman is to trying advanced metal sonic
