"Running time" is such strange argument. It shouldn't matter if the film is 10 minutes longer, if those 10 minutes make it better.
it's the same as with Disco, they overloaded cinema with graphics until people stopped watching movies at all, and graphics did push everything else out
Its a business decision. Longer runtime means fewer times they can show the movie per day.

@@eagc7 I agree. Yet at some level in movie production, whether it be with the director or in the studio execs' offices, runtime is seen as a paramter of quality. Which it in my opinion should not be.
I think some directors do think a lot in runtime when shooting a film, though you are probably right that it has a lot to do with instruction or pressure from the studio. I remember Joss Whedon talking on and on about how pleased he was that Age of Ultron was a few minutes shorter than Avengers 1.
Havok was such a cool character, I wish he didn’t die.

He needed to though for Scott to become a leader. It really changed who he became. He’s almost more Logan than Scott at this point.

@@Dropsey818 yeah looking back Famke did slightly better job adding emotion to the role at what was slowly happening to them becoming Phoenix, while Sophie was a bit stale. They both had two movies to get it right. Didn't help they were once again forced to narrow Dark Phoenix story to single film, this point wouldn't mind Disney doing another recast taking one more crack at it for MCU. But this point looks we get might just get more Famke instead in the next Deadpool! 😏

These scenes have the feel, the tone, the energy off the first two X-Men films. Y'know, the good ones.

I've never seen this movie but the scene of Nightcrawler looking at all those shoes is wonderful, I had very small feet as a child and for a long time I could only stare at shoes that other people my age were wearing, and no matter how much I wanted them I couldn't because they didn't come small enough. Different situation but the way he looks at those shoes... It feels real and made me smile
I know how you feel. I have the same problem, so having Nightcrawler looking at all the shoes was a special moment.
I wish they kept the mall scene in. Kurt getting a brain freeze is hilarious.
Every time i see deleted scenes they are always scenes where the characters get development or actual personalities, sad

I can see your point against love scenes in action movies on the other hand. Although i couldn't really name concrete examples for long gay love scenes, but that could well be due to my lack of knowledge.

In the 80s, almost half a century ago, their teams were always half male/half female. EVERYONE knows who storm, Jean, mystique and rogue is, and many more with Emma, Psylocke, Magik, Polaris, etc. I legit don’t understand what you’re crying about? What mainstream Xmen movie suddenly turned a character gay? I don’t think even you know what you’re crying about.
Mall sequence should have come back in an extended cut. This creates a full life for the characters

The "You dont know me" scene was a huge mistake to take out. The fact that she easily joined Apocalypse and then changed her mind in the end was so weak that this scene wouldve made all the difference.
The problem with X-men is that it has a huge assembled cast, but every movie focuses on the same main characters.
I tend to agree. I'd like to challenge creators to make a movie with less "popular" characters. There are so many interesting powers that could look good on the big screen.

A series would solve this problem. Shoving all into one movie ruins everything.
It is based on comics.. not books. It makes no sense that it isn't a series.
The problem is more specifically that they want to do big epics almost everytime they make an X-Men movie.
We don't get to see character development because the events we see are supposed to be big defining moments - but there's no time to properly develop so many characters and to show why and how it defines them
If there's a group of "superheroes" that would benefit from a MCU type of movie making, it would be X-Men. Have a bunch of individual movies and shows about different characters, each one with their own side characters, and then big "X-Men assemble" movies like Endgame and boom, we get to see characters we care about do big things that define them further.
Imagine of all we saw of Ironman was a secondary character in two or three Avengers movies. Nobody would like him much.
Whats funny is that these deleted scenes are actually better than the actual movie. They should have just cut apocolypse and made it just watching the xmen kids in the school. That was by far way more fun

AMX should have been a trilogy- do a small scale movie about the kids, build up Apocyplse in 2 and then the third one have them fight him.
Or made Striker the villain.
@@LDtheBrachio i agree! apocalypse wouldve been a way better villain stretched across multiple movies. hes supposed to be this all powerful mutant but he dies like as soon as we meet him. a trilogy also wouldve done so much for the stale character writing, it wouldve rly given the characters a chance to grow and develop. there was so much potential here

what's sad is that a lot of fans wanted more Jubilee scenes and a lot of these deleted scenes had Jubilee in them.

I had no clue that that was Lana Condor... they picked the right person to play the role...unfortunately, it speaks volumes that I don't remember her in the movie. Jubilee is such an undeveloped character in the cinema to say that there are so many xmen movies... I've always secretly hated that bryan singer chose to put Rogue in the shoes that Jubilee had because Rogue is so much more complex as a character than Jubilee would have been in that role

agreed, DOFP is probably going to be #1 of the main series no matter what forever, but apoc was a close second, and that would put it even closer.

Jubilee has actual character here which is awesome. I hate when editors cut 10 mins of footage that make the characters grow. Like Mileenas in Mortal Kombat, after the cut she had 1 line haha

1) The brotherly relationship would have been nice to see in the movie.
2) The school scene would have made the school explosion even more impactful and gabe Jubilee some much needed screen time.
3) Magneto's cut is the most understandable so far, the Apocalypse scene was amazing and built him up.
4) Hank's cologne and Braddock lines? The Summers brothers' last time seeing one another? SERIOUSLY?!
5) Hank and the glasses was wonderful. Scott and Jean time that shows how Jean appreciates living things but avoids people because of her powers? WHY?
6) Jubilee screen time. Enough said. Scott trying to make a joke about Jean's telepathy? The kids being kids?! Oh yeah Hank and Raven were nice and moody.. no loss there.

I understand why the first Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) was so captivating and well-developed, while this version portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence is so unsatisfactory! Mystique is a cunning character; her power to transform makes her unpredictable. The actress who portrayed the first Mystique, without acting experience, was always depicted with an animalistic facet, adding to her complexity. Both her appearance and feelings were ambiguous. However, with the Mystique portrayed by the Oscar-winning actress, she became a heroine, and automatically, all that ambiguity disappeared.
I guess you could say the character lost her... mystique ;P

I’m sad the mall sequence got cut not only because of not developing Jubilee’s character (and learning what her power is), but Nightcrawler is one of my favorite characters in the x-men movies and I would’ve loved to see them develop this adorable sweetheart even more

If these scenes weren't deleted, this might've made the X-Men Apocalypse being 160-165 minutes long. I haven't seen this film though.

The movie was a disappointment. I hated how they nerfed Apocalypse.
Glad to see Stryker get what was coming to him before he could cause greater harm down the line. Thus, this would lead to DOFP ending.

Would be cool if Marvel keep those actors. I really enjoied Jean, cyclops, Nightcrawler, Storm and Jubilee. Not to mention Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.
I love how they cut the only scene that gives character to people in a movie where everyone mopes about and feels sorry for themselves.
So all the scenes that made the characters likeable and meaningful were deleted. Nice.

My biggest issue with both X-Men series was that they seemed to focus and revolve around single characters.
Stewart's X-Men all seemed to revolve around Wolverine, MacAvoy's was around Mystique.....but neither of them were truly major forces in the comics, or driving forces in the X-Men themselves...ESPECIALLY Mystique.

It's sad because characterization is what was really lacking from the film. Sacrificed for action and cg spectacles, when at this point the core audience really just loves these characters.
Bryan Singer should've left the franchise after DOFP

Actually I dont know how much Singer had to do with the greatness of DOFP. I seriously have to wonder if Singer used superior storyboards by James Cameron. There are a lot of Cameron tropes in Days of Future Past.
There is a huge difference between Days of Future Past and Jack The Giant Killer in quality
DOFP is the best X-men movie and one of the better comic book movies ever. Apocalypse was ok and the ending with everyone in their comic accurate suit would’ve been the best ending. Dark Phoenix was unnecessary.

Sadly because they introduced Havoc as being a founding member of the X-Men in First Class they made Alex the older brother here, while making Jean and Scott part of the second class.

Loads of these would have been cool to leave in, especially the Mall scene. It could have worked and not upset the pacing. it's just a nice scene where they're doing "normal" things. And Eric singing sorrowfully is powerful, and adds emphasis to why he's so p*ssed off. Definitely would have left that longer version in. The last scene is awesome too.

Removing the Mall and Stryker arrested scenes in the final cut is totally wasted.
Apocalypse should have been a 3 part trilogy. The same with the Phoenix saga, 3 parts. Then 3 parts for Dark Phoenix. Cramming 2 of the most iconic storylines together in 1 film is GARBAGE and beyond disrespectful. Thanks hot 20 movies and we get 1 for Apocalypse and 1 1/2 for Phoenix, SHAMEFUL! This was a far cry from Apocalypse with Celestial Technology and near omnipotent. He should have made Sinister and go from there story wise

Always a good idea to cut every character moment from a film.
I do agree that some of these deleted scenes would've improved the film.
But let's be real. The major flaw was Apocalypse himself. He was really badly portrayed. Not a true reflection of what he should've been. So if the main character is so flawed, the film can not be saved even with incorporating these scenes.
Alex was about 15 or 16 in X-Men First Class, which makes him around 36 in X-Men Apocalypse, since First Class is in 1962, and Apocalypse is in 1983.

It makes more sense to me that Erik would sing to them as he first mourns as they are dying and then rages out then the other way around. Tragic scene.
Logan and Erik seem to both have tragic ends whenever they are happy.
