- ✶ As sixth part of my 'Drawing Mythical Creatures' series, I've decided to do Fairies (or Faeries) 🧚♀️
A fairy is a type of mythical being or legendary creature found in the folklore of multiple European cultures, a form of spirit, often described as metaphysical, supernatural, or preternatural.
The label of fairy has at times applied only to specific magical creatures with human appearance, magical powers, and a penchant for trickery. At other times it has been used to describe any magical creature, such as goblins and gnomes. Fairy has at times been used as an adjective, with a meaning equivalent to "enchanted" or "magical". It is also used as a name for the place these beings come from, the land of Fairy.
In this video I draw several sketches on a sketchbook spread of my interpretation of Fairies and create a composition for a traditional painting using watercolour, acrylic gouaches and metallic ink 💖 not all sketches I do are from imagination. I use references to sketch and get into the mood of the paintings. I'm always looking into the work of amazing fantasy artists like Iain McCaig, Alan Lee that are a true inspiration and help me learn so much about drawing and art.

What refrance did you use to learn how to draw fairies?
I used a few references from artists I like to get into the mood of the creatures and explore poses. Ian Mccaig, Brian froud among others. I also looked into some Pinterest photos during my research phase :) there’s a beautiful book called Faeries from Alan Lee and Brian Froud that I recommend for anyone that loves fantasy art. It’s a stunning book with beautiful illustrations ✨
Use référence or no for drawing
I used some references for body poses and did my research on fairy designs prior to this video. I always do my own twist and my own interpretation even when I use references
How do u know so much about fairies
I research and read about them! Still a lot to learn, but it is a subject that I enjoy very much :)
