Substitute pinky for ring finger. Pinky curls under on a subcompact. If the grip is too narrow for your support hand to make contact, you squeeze your support hand over the fingers on your primary hand.
Same. Damn near removed my support hand thumb when I was a kid. The "new" tendon is good, but not like the old setup. I settled for the now out-of-style one finger in front of the trigger guard. It allows me to better utilize my best 4 fingers and my palm in making grip. I crank my support hand around and all is well. Thumb still is there for emotional support. My firing hand ends up just a little less squished into the beavertail so I keep my leverage and with most guns, my trigger finger has a better angle on the trigger. Jeff's method is a great baseline though. Every gun and every individual is different. There are many different ways of instructing pistol grip techniques and I advise studying and practicing ALL of them.
Please put up a video that shows how you modified your grip. I've seen guys with 3 fingers on one hand doing ultra flat shooting one handed. If you put your info out there you can help others with similar damage to get an idea of helpful adjustments. Something like "Shooting with damaged support hand muscles". That's something only you with your particular damage can do.
The wrist is the wrist. You can work on your forearm muscles, which do most of the work and the tendons to some degree. Ron Avery (R.I.P.) has good tips in videos, articles and his book. He built the Tactical Performance Center.
However you squeeze, just be consistent. The issue with push-pull on a pistol (a holdover from Weaver stance training) is that half your grip force is pulling in the same direction as the force of recoil. If you’re compressing the grip frame from both sides with your wrists locked forward, all the force on the gun is mitigating recoil and working against muzzle rise.
@@musicman1eanda Rob makes no sense. The Push-Pull does not "help it come back". When firing the gun the strong arm should be stiff, with the support hand pulling back SLIGHTLY against the shooting hand. This push-pull action steadies the hands and wrists and gives a strong aiming platform for firing the handgun. I explain it using the Box Kite. It is constructed with no strings and/or glue. Each piece holds the others in perfect alignment and support. The Push-Pull is the same physical theory.
@@lonestarhog7407 I agree with Rob Leatham that there is a slight "pull", but it's only just enough to keep the grip intact. It's not, "PUUULLLL! to handle that recoil!!"
He failed as soon as he brought his off hand into the grip, as Jeff Cooper and several others said, "If you can't shoot single handed, the other hand isn't going to help and you may not have the other hand available".
I find that after I have executed a proper grip with each finger, I can generally shoot better if I have both testicles straddling the hem of my pants and my wang aiming to the left. This has been absolutely repeatable for me, and has become an integral part of my firing stance.

Best grip instruction that i have seen! Stability based on physics. Constant but not excessive 360 deg force to stabilize. Great job!
That works on a full size firearm but what if you have big hands and carry a subcompact for CC then you find what ever works for you.
Yeah, my pinky is not even close to being on the grip.

How about you buy something different that fits your hands better? A boatload of good striker fired polymer pistols out there.
I can't argue with these points. I personally had to modify the grip with my support hand since I have muscular damage to the hand.

Jeff, that was an excellent lesson. I will start engaging the pinkies, that was a new tip!
Do a video on revolver grip !
That sounds like good advice. I’m going to try this pinky squeeze on the range.
Given the realities of close encounters of the violent kind I would like to see more emphasis on one handed shooting.
Excellant explanation, Thank you
Great info thank you..
Excellent video, thank you.
Great video
👍👍Thanks!
Good one! Thanks
Thank you
I’ve used the Israeli grip all my life. And I’ll continue to use it
I hope you will do a video maybe some exercises to help strengthen wrist and fingers.

Jump in the middle .... Palm purchase? Thanks for the good advice
What do you recommend for pocket pistols where you cannot get a grip with the pinky fingers?
Take a look at the Bond Arms Bullpup
What is your opinion about incorporating the Push-Pull?

Hahaha hahaha hahaha got to love how these RUclips experts say that there's only one way to skin a cat get over yourself Jeffy
Go play with your Nerf Gun. This place is for adults with real guns and assessing various shooting techniques.
