Nice Video. Gave you a thumbs up/like. I used your video and the link for the ON/OFF button mod :) I want to make one comment. The first generation (2018) of the SF A1U cabinet has the same 4 hole screw on the joystick but the 2019 they've actually made 2 additional holes in between the 2 top and bottom 2 holes so no additional drilling is necessary. They've also solder all the wires better now but makes it more difficult when you try to upgrade the buttons. It is difficult to use the SAME cheap buttons but since my upgrade was to change them over to LED buttons and we are not using the same USB encoder, I just cut the wires and threw the whole thing out. They've also SHORTEN the wire on the ON/OFF switch (this can be done by soldering to make the wires longer). A1U is aware of the RaspberryPi upgrades so they are making it more difficult for folks.

How can you assume the right/left and Up/down wiring will be correct -- If as you mention you are turning the switches in order to align the 5 pin plug connector on the joystick that will also change the location of the various switches - so depending on how you move the connector location it will also change the Left/right/up/down switch location ! Hi the wife for me the Street Fighter 1up for Xmas and I want to upgrade the joystick to be more precise etc, will these joystick upgrades do just that? And or what are the main benefits I’m expecting with these upgrades? Also will the existing knobs thread right on? Thanks!
Joystick failure on these machines are pretty common. These replacements are more accurate and responsive then the factory sticks. If yours uses the duble 4 pin JST connectors like shown this is a "almost" plug and play. You just need to drill some holes for the next joysticks. The top just unscrews like any other joystick.

Just a note for those using this video guide to replace their A1Up joysticks remember that when you rotate the connection that it also rotates the direction of the stick, so unless you wire/splice it yourself or buy the adapters that are shown you will have joystick configuration issues. If you are attempting to use this 'rotation' method with an aftermarket encoder keep that in mind. I changed out the sticks on my modded MKII (pc) with Sanwa's and it's completely worth it. Best of luck !

I already put a Sanwa into my SF2 cabinet and I'd like to add one of these for P2 but I want the shaft length the same on both sticks. Would you happen to know the answer to this?
It is just a hair shorter then the factory joystick. See: tinyurl.com/y86jkbu3 We can make a led kit for your Astroids cabinet, simply email me pics of the back of the control panel and i can work on that.
Not to tech savvy, but was wondering, would your harnesses also work for the Pac-Man cabinet, or are these specifically designed for the Street Fighter, I am looking to change out my arcade stick in time and maybe your harnesses are the answer as I am not to keen with wiring.
Sure! Send me a message thru the contact form at diyretroarcade.com and i can get you fixed up. Just need to verify if your A1U encoder has two 4 pins or one 5 pin connection. We have cables for both setups that are plug and play
This is awesome. Just ordered... in the meantime, I was wondering if you had thoughts on the restrictor plates. I see you sell an 8-way, but the Sanwas say they come with a 4/8-way plate, so I didn't order the separate restrictor. Is that needed for SFII?
The newer SF machines come with Sanwa clones and they are pretty close to the real thing. Swapped one out with a real Sanwa and it wasn't a big difference.

Received the joy sticks today and love them! Will they also work for the rampage cab? I would like to get 3 more if so
I'm back! Anything else I can criticize 😆 I'm about ready to place a custom order for my Asteroids cab. I'll send pics and part list so we can work out a price. I have a question about this stick. Is the shaft length equal to a Sanwa or the default A1U stick? The A1U stick is longer than the Sanwa.
DIY Retro Arcade Thanks for the pic. It looks like it might end up being the same length as my Sanwa stick.
Will this work for Pacman also?
Sure will
This is awesome. Just ordered... in the meantime, I was wondering if you had thoughts on the restrictor plates. I see you sell an 8-way, but the Sanwas say they come with a 4/8-way plate, so I didn't order the separate restrictor. Is that needed for SFII?
the clones run the single 8 way which will work perfect for the SF ;)
The newer SF machines come with Sanwa clones and they are pretty close to the real thing. Swapped one out with a real Sanwa and it wasn't a big difference.
Are the speakers detachable
We are installing joysticks not speakers.
