They all seemed fun! I think that a super underrated one is working at the field office -- I would have loved to get first picks on the donated programs people didn't want to go on but had already paid for!
I am only a junior in high schools but I really want to do this. This video was so helpful! I want to apply for student assistant job that helps with kids. I think that’ll be helpful to me because I have been working with my students day care/ sped classes for three years now! I really hope it works out 😭
potentially... but a lot of people seem to end up making really good friends while they’re working with the other students doing the same job! also, people who work at the writing desk or at the library desk can get their homework done if people aren’t asking for help, so they end up having free time once they’re done working!
@@jessshorst Hi Joss! I am wondering if you might be able to work in one of this jobs, but get the money directly, instead of having your tuition covered partially from the job?
yep that’s right, a day early for training! which is actually pretty cool because you day going through security and everything will be less stressful :)
i think they just send you an email one day on the voyage asking if you want to be a part of it! basically, a staff member of life long learner will be assigned to you and like 4-6 other voyagers, and you’ll meet like every two weeks or something for “family dinner”! it’s just sort of like a home base system, and they’ll take care of you/be people you can lean on ☺️
awesome video! (: did you have a job on the ship? if so which one? I think the lifelong learner student assistant job sounds super fun, how many people do they need for this role?
Do u know if there is a lifeguard job available on the ship? I have experience with lifeguarding for many years and have even taught swim lessons and team so I’d love it if that was a possible opportunity
Hi!! Do you have a recommendation on which jobs are the easiest to get and which jobs are the hardest to get? Also if you get rejected from a job on the ship are u able to apply for different one since u didn’t get the first one?? Last what is the probability of getting a job as a dependent child student assistant and how competitive is this job? (bc this job sounds sooo exciting and the most intriguing!!!)
you can only apply for one job, and if you’re rejected from it then you can’t apply for another one because the job window has already closed, which really sucks!!! and i don’t know for sure which jobs are easiest to get... but i know that the video creation/photography job is really competitive! i think that the library assistant one is less competitive because it’s less “glamorous,” and i think that the child care one, although super fun so more people might apply, has a lot of spots that need to be filled! so if that’s the one you want to apply for, i say go for it!! be sure to list lots of past experiences you have with working with kids, and to sound really enthusiastic in your application ☺️
Hi! I'm a party host and by the time I go on semester at sea hopefully I will have been one for roughly 6 years! I'm also will have been a camp counselor for 3 years and a VBS leader! I was wondering is it very hard to get a job as a dependent Childs student assistant because that seems like an amazing job and I love being around kids!
wow, that’s amazing! you already have so much experience working with kids, i’m sure if you put that on your application you’ll have a really good chance of getting it! the dependent child student assistant isn’t too competitive because of how many workers they need to entertain all the kids and give them each enough attention (at least 5-10 students). i had two friends who worked with the ship kids and they LOVED IT! they got so close to them by the end of the voyage, and found it so hard to say goodbye!!!
All of them select multiple people, but it depends between jobs how many are actually selected for each one... like the Media Vlogger and Social Media Assistant only select 4-5 between the two, and then there are a ton of field office workers (maybe 15), a ton of child support workers (maybe around 10), student life workers (10ish), and also a lot of workers in the library!
So just generally they have to fill 2 hour shifts throughout the day for places like the field office desk and library, so they need enough people to do work for as long as those spaces are open, and then even though the students that work with the ship kids aren't needed the entire day, they need more of them to entertain the kids and keep things under control (I hope that makes sense!)
How hard is the lifelong learner student assistant job to get? I am planning to be a recreation major and wondered if that would give me an edge. It's my dream job there and it sounds amazing!
Thank u so much for this video!!! But if u apply for a job how long does it take for them to respond back to u to tell u if u got the job or not? And if u don’t get it can u apply for another one?
they usually let you know within about a month, and unfortunately they fill all the positions with the first applications… so you have to be smart when you apply and apply for the one you’re the best fit for the first time around!
there are some jobs that need multiple people, such as the people watching the children (probably over 10 people get this job because they are a ton of work to entertain) and working in the library and all that... shifts are only two hours per day, so most jobs need enough people to cover shifts throughout the whole day!!
You make each job sound fun!

Soo helpful, thank you!!
Another great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
do you feel that people with these jobs are missing out on things. 2h is a lot when you are managing school, relaxation and fun.
potentially... but a lot of people seem to end up making really good friends while they’re working with the other students doing the same job! also, people who work at the writing desk or at the library desk can get their homework done if people aren’t asking for help, so they end up having free time once they’re done working!
Thank you for making this video
No problem 😊
Really helpful video, thank you!
yay, glad to be able to help!
Hi! Does anyone knows if GAP students can apply for some of this jobs as well?
i think they can apply for all of them!
@@jessshorst Hi Joss! I am wondering if you might be able to work in one of this jobs, but get the money directly, instead of having your tuition covered partially from the job?
Do student assistants get to get on the ship earlier than everyone else.
yep that’s right, a day early for training! which is actually pretty cool because you day going through security and everything will be less stressful :)

yay! glad you thought so :)
Can I ask what the extended family program is and how a student would sign up?

Thank youu for this
of course ❤️ glad you liked it!!

i don’t think they do, the pool is super small so i don’t even know if anyone is a lifeguard!

are you allowed to vlog/film and post videos from sas if you aren’t a student assistant?

How many people get the jobs? Does each job get taken by only one person?

so there a few that only take 2-5 people, like the video creator position... but most take more.
Sometimes we need to get away from home
