I love the look so I went and bought a pair (not easy trying to track a dealer down in NYC but I did it). I'm wearing them around the house for a day or so to break them in before I venture out - but they are a magnificent boot!!
It's beautiful. I intend to start bootmaking and the lace to toe style is way down the list just because of the difficulty and amount of work involved. Gonna make something similar with a more aggressive tread.
As far as having imperfections being a hand made boot. How come the Redwing Heritage Lineman 2996’s or any of the Heritage line are flawless and hard to find any imperfections in them ?
What is the function of so many laces? They are so cool, the more you look at them they better they look, kinda grow on you and with the right pants will look way cool.
Hey Bootguy, i have been wearing these last couple of days for 4 5 hours a day... i have bloody blisters on my ankles also the heel cup is slightly inward on my left boot that pains a bit. Did you went through the same pain? 😒
I have Alden, LLBean, Military (Belleville) boots and now thanks to TheBootGuy a really nice pair of 1892 Dodgeville in Cognac. The boots have met all my expectations for a boot in that price range and have no complaints. If you want a flawless boot try an Alden cordovan, currently about $800 at Shoemart. Step your game up. :-)
I wish Thorogood's would get their quality control in check. I tried to buy a pair recently and It's embarrassing to see that union stamp on such shoddy work. (Stitching, bad leather).
Well they still have quality control issues. I just left boot barn and really wanted a pair of thorogoods but every single pair they had had some type of issue. A bunch of them had a flaw with the welt, there was about an 1/8 inch gap between the welt and leather on the front of the boots. Ultimately this kept me from getting a pair and instead I bought a pair of Carolinas. I must mention I am talking about the moc toe version of the boot.
I agree this is prob the most baller heritage style boot if u are really going for true old school functional form and overall sickness of style. I just got a pair of the polish gym shoe" style and are real working boots. I got a lot of respect for thorogood as far as tough and simple construction.
It would be a shame if they decided to discontinue the 1892 Portage like they did the roofers. My roofers most comfortable footwear, period. Please do not discontinue the 1892 Horween, they will last 'forever."
Anerican made!!!!! Hopefully we as country start making a lot more of the goods we consume instead of importing. We need to get away from this throw away culture . I love how American made boots are pretty much for life because instead of throwing them away the boot gets better with age and can be repaired
The real thing is that they're built to a price, they have everything they need to and a few minor imperfections accepted to get this quality of boot to you for the money. Plenty of handmade custom boots can be had without these minor imperfections, but one guy is spending many more hours on it and charging 3x or more what these cost. I am perfectly fine with minor imperfections here and there on a boot that's factory manufactured on an assembly line with hand operations, espwith thorogoods. They look nice and perform well, you practically have to put your nose against them to notice anything.
how does the 6522 compare to 6233 in terms of comfort when standing all day? Is the Roofer design more optimal for boot comfort then say the heritage moc toe?
Cool, thanks. I just got a pair of the tobacco wedge lace to toe and they are by far the most comfortable and best fitting boots I've owned. I have narrow feet and the lace to toe design helps keeps my foot nice and secure. I'm looking to get a pair of these, I'm just having a hard time choosing which leather to get. I love CXL but I'm thinking of trying out the horsehide version. Do you have any experience with the horsehide?
+Manny Francisco yes. Since they are the same company. I'm sure the leather and sole would of been different. This boot has a cork sole and Horween chromexcel leather.
Question: would I be able to resole this iteration or the Woods n Stream one to look more like the 814 4233 Wedge Roofer? I’m more a fan of that version and they are harder to find now. Thanks for any info
+Ethan Goodwin No, since I look at footwear as a case by case basis. I would say if you where going to add a second casual boot to your collection. Then definitely think about this boot. But as for Best. That's to bold of a clam for any foot wear enthusiast.
+TheBootGuy also let me add. I love my pair. But I have had three of the same style boots just with different soles over the last twenty years. So getting a cork sole is a treat.
TheBootGuy How do you like that sole in comparison to the others you've had? You do seem to be wearing this pair a lot, from the looks or recent videos.
I have a three pairs of Thorogood boots and love all three of them. I own two for work, and a pair of the 1892 collection, the Beloit for everyday wear/as a dress boot. If you get a chance The Boot Guy, I would definitely like to see a review on the Beloits.
@@weilm I was referring to the sole - not the upper. However, I can speak from experience the sole does indeed have a lot of traction even though it is smooth rubber. I guess you would need that for standing on a roof. They are incredibly comfortable when broken in and I love mine.
i hear you. you would think posters of videos would list an msrp and a link to the manufactures website , but only a few on the web do. the way profits are made on videos, i would think everyone would do it. My experience with American made boots has been disappointing... doubly so because I'm not an American... so I can't exchange them when they develop problems
Maybe you need to watch the video I have where I interview the man who created this boot. thebootguy.com/richard-martens-thorogood-boots1892-collection-boot-guy-road-trips/
I think it's comical how much you're trying to push These Boots vs Redwing boots. You not comparing them side-by-side but you have an obvious and biased preference for some reason. They do make good boots but for me they will never hold up to the quality of Red Wing boot. Just my opinion.
So sorry, have you watched my other videos? I don't cover the box at all. A few days before I shot this video I was in a shop talking with the owner about stocking more brands. They repeatedly said to me that space was an issue. The size of the box matters to small American owned retailers. I guess you could say I was doing this more for them. Really sorry to have wasted your time. One other thing I should point out is, boots like this take a long time to break in. If your time is in a short supply have you looked at lite weight boots like the chan or Normandy by Allen Edmonds?

Luis Sauceda I’ve heard it flexes more when you bend at the toe. So a roofer who’s in a bent toe position most the day, allows better comfort.
Hey Bootguy, i have been wearing these last couple of days for 4 5 hours a day... i have bloody blisters on my ankles also the heel cup is slightly inward on my left boot that pains a bit. Did you went through the same pain? 😒

To be honest, at first I thought they looked a bit odd in design but I'm slowly starting to like them.
Wearing the right pants helps though.
Mike W. Thinking of getting a pair did they wear well?

after corona virus passes, im sure the 'made in china' badge will be a mark of shame. it will be prime time for american manufacturers again.

Amazing looking boots. Need it badly

As you have iron rangers from red wing, how do the sizes compare?
This is what I came here to find out
How is the break in on those compared to the Redwing Heritage boots ?
great video. terrific boots!
Awesome pair of boots. Have to find some now.
Do these come with a removable insole like the wedge version?
Yes, did I forget to mention that. sorry . I wear my pair without the USA insole.

I bought a pair of these and my toes are just past where the eyelets end, is that how they should fit or should my toes be at the end of the toe?
Where can you buy them?
Leather welt?
Question, Wood n' Stream had the same design before. Was it done by Thorogood, too?
+Manny Francisco yes. Since they are the same company. I'm sure the leather and sole would of been different. This boot has a cork sole and Horween chromexcel leather.

Those are some really nice aesthetically pleasing boots!
really looks like a bowling shoe

Those are nice boots!!!👍🇨🇦
These look like bowling shoes
...I can't unsee it anymore
They make a contrast color model that looks so much like bowling shoes. Suede tan outer, and a dark brown polished toe.
These look like reidell skate shoes
These are almost identical to the Red Wing Lineman boots.
Duluth Trading used to offer them as roofers' shoes.
That right there is a old school Telemark ski boot.

Having a smooth looking sole - it does have traction right?
leather outsole. it is not rubber

very impressive boot!!!
My box was red white and blue
Look like my ice skates without the skate.
Birgith Krogh Jensen you're right.
Looks like a mid height bowling shoe 🎳
Yep: Gorgeous! Great idea, doing an unboxing. Mahalos!
By the way...great jammies!
814 or 815?
+mark clemens 814 it's the non steel or safety shoe designation for Thorogood.
cool thanks. if i remember correctly at some point in the video it was referred to as 815.
why would they name a roofers boot portage? isnt that when you carry your kayak from water source to water source?
All the 1892 boots are named for towns in Wisconsin www.portagewi.gov/
Oh yeah ,stick shotrees in all your fine boots.
Can you do a review of the Ariat Contender?
Good looking boot. I want a pair....👍

No one cares about the box.
I'm sure your right. But I was thinking more about the small independent retailers who have a limited amount of floor space and storage.
theyre on sale on certain sites, but range from 170 to over 300. hope this helps. they are probably not being made for awhile now

Daniel Salm completely agree. Seems he is endorsed by thorogood.
I just don't like lace-to-toe boots. The look of the toe box is just off. Like a surgical procedure new parents elected not to have done.
Sorry guys, but they are the ugliest boots i've evr seen !
Thank you for your honesty
