This one scared me..

- This was without a doubt the scariest and sketchiest recovery I've ever done, so I enlisted the help of my friend Jason with the Primal Outdoors RUclips channel that you can check out at / primaloutdoors . This is an area that basically right in our backyard and is a beautiful view of the canyon, river, and reservoir. But unfortunately someone thought it would be fun to jump a riding lawnmower off the cliff and down into the canyon. We wanted that eyesore out of there before it attracted even more garbage to be dumped over the edge, so I built a homemade gin pole gantry crane like is used in the oil fields and drill rig sites, then spliced together a couple of @YankumRopes to have enough reach with my @harborfreight Badlands winch. The job went perfectly and we got not only the mower, but some tires, and a bunch of small trash cleaned up as well.
Be sure to check out the upcoming PLS Bend public lands cleanup on July 11th right after the Overland Expo weekend to join Jason and I to clean up even more public lands!

Tip: use a big bag next time you do something similar or when you revisit this site
Saves a lot of winching ;-)
I'm already there, thanks to seeing your 'recovery of the lawn mower"!
@@Wannes_ Maybe he could get one of the bulk product poly bags that they load stuff into to haul on Semis. Some rock quarries use them to load customers gravel into; then deliver the bag. They are about 4'x4'x4'. a friend gave me one about half loaded with gravel. shoveled gravel out into horse trailer until we could move the bag. Sat around here for year until I sent it to the landfill loaded with garbage.
@@funnyfarm5555 That's what we call "big bags" over in Europe ;-)
Love what you're doing but man your truck is awesome
Excellent description of the geometry involved in a gin-pole setup. Nicely done on all of it.
Thank you Rory!
@@CaseyLaDelle Ditto what Rory said. Long time fabricator here. Explanation was simple and spot on.
{bows down} Rory has spoken.
Geometry what is this geometry thing you talk of🤔🤔
Ditto!
Y'all are some TRUE Americans. Respecting this land and actively being stewards of it instead of trashing it and taking it for granted. THANK YOU!
Clever way of getting the job done. Most people will say yes that needs to be cleaned up but few will actually do anything to help with the clean up. Nicely done. As a kid in boys scout I was taught to leave it better than I found it is something we all can do. Again great job
Most people that would Try to retrieve something like that mower tractor, wouldn't likely have the skills set it takes to ' git-r-dun' Safely right?? Now Casey shows us How It's Done!! Enjoy your PLSBend features and looking forward to the next one! Would be awesome to be part of that effort in perdon! What a Beautiful landscape! Love the forests!! Crazy volcanic geology there!!! I would LOVE to hunt for the lovely minerals that are found in your Oregon!! So much natural beauty, but I don't often see examples on other channels of any wildlife other than Sasquatch.....👍👍💚
I learned that concept from my Grandma =)
I don’t have the skill set or the equipment to pull something like that off but I can at least pick up my own trash and a little bit more each time I am in the woods.
Well done all three of you❤️
Couple of things…1. The drone shots made this an impressive junk recovery video, shows the shear scale you were working against, 2. Mighty impressive driving abilities to park the trailer against the wheel chocks every time you had to move it around, 3. Being great stewards of the land is something most take for granted and others just blatantly ignore. Moral of the story … impressive group of guys!!
I saw that too! That's amazing!
Great 👍Thank you for doing this and it made a cool 😎video
Casey LaDelle is a tremendous driver . He used to drive Monster trucks in competition .
@@williameddy1662 I found that when I was searching for his towing company, but there isn't a single clear picture so I drew no conclusion
sheer scale
Great job putting that together. The intro drone scene was awesome. I guess I was wrong on the date by a day, but at least I had the right month, lol.

@@cozfpv591 Spot-on ! i'd have rappelled down & riden-up in a heartbeat if i was there !
As a former rope rescue technician, I would recommend having a hasty harness for whoever is working near the edge; he could just easily clip in with a carabiner and improve your safety factor tremendously. Plus giving the edge person a greater sense of security!
For sure. A little vertigo and you could be over the edge.
The only way a harness is going to save someone is bcs they tripped over the lanyard
As a fellow Oregonian I have hauled my share of trash (not mine) out of the woods. Thanks for what you have done and will do.
So glad to see y'all are cleaning up the area hopefully more will learn from y'all and help keep all of Oregon clean!
I'm pretty much speechless I will say you all did a awesome job and what a beautiful scenery so as always be safe 👍
Great job the 3 of you if it wasn't people like you this world would be nothing but a trash bin
That's some good old fashioned ingenuity right there. Nice work.
Thank you Casey and friends for all the tough dedicated work you do to keep our beautiful backcountry clean. You guys are all an inspiration and fine examples of how to be responsible and accountable human beings.
Absolutely awesome to see y'all working together on this. Would like to say thank you for every generation to come!
Thanks for being a good egg for the environment, that looks like a flying squirrel suit territory
This one scared me too! I am definitely not a fan of heights! Thanks so much to all of you that take care of our beautiful country. I have never been to that part of our country, and wish I had been. As terrifying as it was to see over the cliff, it was absolutely beautiful! Take care, stay safe! Oh, I just subscribed to Jason’s channel, it looks very interesting and my type of viewing.
Climbing down is always easier than coming back up😵💫
I felt butterflies in my stomach watching this, you are correct, that's a really long way down😱
Makes me mad that someone felt this was the place to dump the mower and other garbage 😡
Good job 👍👍
if you wanna feel how old you really are, test gravity, it will let you know real fast lol
Should have just let the winch pull him back up :-)
This is the best video on U tube. Three fellas doing good deed foe PLS. Two of my fav channels. This more than makes up for Jason missing 6-11. I can say the Crooked River Gorge is deep. I delivered a mobilhome to the RANCH, about150 feet from the edge. I had to creep to the edge of the precipice as well. Like standing on the edge of Crater Lake. Found the biggest tree to hang on to. Call me a wuss, but at 78 dizziness comes into play!
That's wisdom right there!!! Be wise and stay alive!
Smart man!
Yes with age comes wisdom.
👍👍 Kudos to you Sir! It warms this old man’s heart to see young people care about something other than themselves 👍👍
I would love to help out with the next cliffside clean up. I'm a climber, and have a ton of gear that would make the job shorter and possibly easier.
Another great plan came together...Cuddos to Casey and your team for hoisting that trash out of that area. An ingenious idea with the pulley system, you are one inventive dude!! 👍
Kudos
PAYBACK TIME....!!!!
Just kidding,,, it's great to have friends like your wife's boss's son... JOB security...!!!!
OMG that opening shot was very cool ... my heart jumped as we went over the edge!!!
well done! as a lover of our collective outdoors, my family says thank you for your efforts!
Sad that people think that they can just toss there Junk anywhere, There was a spot in my area that was always getting tires, beds, old Tv's and more tossed into it, The town set up hidden cameras and now have caught several people dumping, they were arrested and fined and had to pay for the cost of clean up !!!
You guys do such fun things, and go where no man has gone before. Keep up the fun videos.
My biggest pet peeve is people throwing trash in the hills. Awesome to see you guys cleaning up.
He is correct about getting older and things bother you that didn't bother you when we were younger. Guess our brains got fully developed LOL
Thanks for cleaning up the mess. Very interesting challenge. I especially appreciated your explanation regarding the snack block and your tripod makes sense just never thought of it before. Regards
Great job recovering all that trash from public lands. A pox upon the people who think that it is acceptable to dump stuff like that. I'm interested on your jumper cable/winch power quick connects. How about a lead on those?
Thank You guys for taking care of Mother Earth!! Much appreciated!
Good job every little clean up helps
For similar trash recoveries you should look into acquiring an older metal stokes basket and rig a harness. Pretty solid device and normally cheap to acquire. Fill it full and lift.
solid advice.. or he could make one with his "fabrication" skills =)
Fan and avid viewer of both channels. Had wondered if your paths ever cross and next thing you know your both at a clean up. Thank you both for your efforts!
Thank you for your video.. Greatly appreciate people picking up after other people.. I appreciate the real life application of this simple but yeah effective idea. Especially the application of the fulcrum of the lower snatch block . The only thing that I would suggest changing and switching to would be a pitnal style hitch They can handle 10 times the load on a lifting application like that.. Thanks again for taking care of our backcountry .
And yes before I get a hater comment saying that it's only a 300 pounds of weight yes it is only a 300 pounds And not that much force on it . It's not this lifting application it would be potentially the next when they try to pick up something even heavier.
Yeah if this was any sort of regular use thing I would very much prefer a pintle hitch, and even thought of spinning it upside down for a heavier lift. But I test lifted the front of my Jeep with zero issues and only built the setup for this one project, so I left the hitch as is
Awesome well thank you for your channel and and taking care of the area.. From love in Prineville.
Leave it to Casey to put the cart before the horse 😂
😂
Nice!
Excellent work. Thank you Casey, Jason and David for doing this.
Thank You Casey for what you do!! You're awesome and amazing!! It would be awesome to find the people that do this stuff and bring them to justice! 👍🏻👍🏻
Good job guys! I can't wait to get over in the area and help with cleanups.
I'm a subscriber of Jason's channel and yours. I enjoy watching both of you and it is wonderful how you both promote caring for our environment. Thank you and I just wish everyone who goes out on public lands would be more mindful of that privilege. Keep up the good work.
Great drone shots, and thanks to all for keeping this beautiful country clean 👍👏
If the winch is strong enough to lift the mower, then it's strong enough to lift Jason up and down with out all the walking. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, it's not rated to lift people...
When dealing with people, you need additional fail-safes. Like in elevators, where you don’t just rely on the motor pulling up the cabin but at the very least having some passive breaking in the cabin and on the ‘upper pulley’ (eg, the electric motor control should haywire due to maybe a short somewhere.
@@aphextwin5712 a secondary rope like a tree climber uses would be sufficient. On Jason's channel he says they didn't because neither of them had a harness to wear. Fair enough.
why didn't you just lower him down with your rig? 🤔😎
The ropes are not rated for climbing along with the winch and blocks
@@lightman489 had they planned better, 3/8" steel cable (a couple of 100' spouls installed on the trailer wrinch) would have been used instead of the rope! 🤔😎
@@corywright7065 a pto winch like diesel brothers have I'd do it in a heartbeat, but an electric winch count me out I'll take my chances free scale 120 ft
Well done Casey, necessity real is the mother of invention. Nice place to camp as long as you don’t sleep walk…🇦🇺
Nicely done and some people are just pigs.
Yea! I would not be hiking that... hook me up and drop me over the side. It would be WAY more fun.
Your geometry lesson was practical and useful. If it keeps someone else from getting hurt during a recovery kudos to you. The scenery was gorgeous as usual. You do have the best office ever.
Nice!!! Such a beautiful scenery
Compliments to you three men for the effort you took to remove the lawnmower and rubbish from over that cliff. Just being next to the cliff must be scary. Not something for me.
Thank you for making the time and removing all of the mess that was down there. I already knew Casey's dedication to cleaning the forests and it is good to see that he has friends with the same dedication.
Casey, you should give yourself a little more credit. Personally I think your trailer/gantry set up was pretty smart. I live in the mountains of NC and wish I could come out to help with the clean up... since I can't, I am going to do some clean up here in our mountains in kind of a long range support thing.
Thanks for all y'alls efforts!
I saw you headed north on 97 this morning. I had to wonder what new madness you where off to accomplish. Did you see the couch some idiot threw off the cliff farther down? It was off the side of the road on the really high steep part of the canyon road.
To clarify: The couch I am referring to is not visible in your video, it is a separate issue and area.
The camera work, narration, editing are excellent. Wowie zowie!!!!
I appreciate your service!,👍 thanks for cleaning up other people's trash!! I would say if you had extra time (to waste but you don't) find out who's lawn mower that is, and dump it in their yard and the trash as well!!
I live in Prineville and know that must be around here somewhere but I couldn't place exactly where? I follow both channels so nice to see you two working together to keep public lands clean
It’s overlooking prineville res. and the start of the crooked river.
@@jessepitt Interesting, I've never been on that side or ever seen the drone perspective which is always illuminating.
Great team job, however it is unfortunate that the team had to risk themselves and equip. in the first place. great job of using your time to heal the ignorance of others, a BIIIIIIG SALUTE TO ALL, Thank you appreciated
Great job. It astounds me such a beautiful place and people dumping all that rubbish there.
Rigging 101 failure. Never choke with your winch line. Chains (or choke straps) are robust. The winch line is for lifting.
Regardless, Great job at cleaning up some pigs trash!
Great work guys! Even though I’m far from you away in Florida THANKS for doing your part. I’ve removed crap from the ocean and the Everglades and have always wondered how ignorant people have to be to trash up our natural public properties. 🇺🇸
Casey, I'm a little disappointed. I miss the part about "Will the mower start after it's been in the ravine for a long time."🤣
Thanks for the great video. 👍
Nice job, Casey. I was at the Crooked River dirt biking back in March and we stopped at this overlook. Someone in the group pointed out the tractor over the cliff. It was scary trying to get a good look. Thanks for getting it out of there. Why people do things like this, I will never understand.
Sad to see that this needed to be done. Nice to see there were people that would. I just hope there's more good than bad.. Too bad it's only a hope
That horseshoe in the Cascade is very familiar to me. Ben through it many times. In the spring the snow last longer than any place else. People gather there after spring and plows have basically removed the snow everywhere else.
Jason, Big man, at 6.3 or 6.4, to be tired after climb up to top, says a lot. Way to go!
I would have had to be winched up
Enfin quelqu'un qui a compris comme moi l'utilité d'un attelage frontal sur un truck ! Bravo !! Bien le bonjour de la Suisse...
My first thought was: Are we going to see a gin-pole flip? But I see you have the engineering on that down pat. Count me impressed. Thanks for all the effort you put into keeping our public lands clean.
Incredible! When you started the video, I expected you to introduce your PLS friend as a cohort in this recovery. How did you find this trash, being you hate being so close to the edge? I would not expect you to have just walked up close enough and look straight down! Thanks again for your cleanup efforts.
Drone????
Kudos to you for cleaning up that mess, and thanks for sharing this video with us.
Good work, all. Jason looked like he had an injury on his left leg after his climb. Stay safe!
Watch his video to see what happened!
That opening sequence shot was amazing. I bet it is 100 times better seeing it in person.
I learned something today. It makes perfectly good sense I just have never it seen done this way. Trailer steered from the front. Good job Casey. Thanks for all your friends doing good things for the environment.
Very nice. You've built the Trail Mater of cliff-recovery,
Thank you guys for all you do. Great video Casey!!
Talk about a basket case - this one is a classic. Even as sketchy as your rigging looks it appears to be a solid solution for a demanding situation.
Thanks
Nice job!!! Wish more people could see what a little help could do to continue NOT to degrade our environment!! Thanks Casey and Crew!!!
Hallo Casey and Jason,
A very,very Great Job.WOW 👐👏👐👏👐👏👐👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😳😀🙋♂️
Great job guys, needs to be more of you types! Question: Why not swedish seat / Climbing harness rappel using the winch, bring him up and down on the gin pole?
Great rigging for a tuff job and Thanks for what you all do.
I just kept thinking, if Jason had a safety harness, you could have winched him up, instead of having to climb back out of there 😎😂
Now that would be a REAL EXPERIENCE!!! WHEW!!!
Great job Casey and Jason on your constant effort to clean up the beautiful landscape. Longest recovery yet? 🤙😎
And David too!
Awesome job guys awesome I watched David's channel it sounds like you're going to do a clean up here again I have a suggestion I hope this would really work for you it would make things easier I don't know the name of them so that's going to help but the landscape world uses these large nylon they're like four and a half feet by 4 1/2 deep with handles and I believe they can carry up to a ton so my suggestion see how you can get a hold of those maybe make a day of going down and putting all the material in the bags then all you have to do is show up to remove the bags Hefty trash bags are great but it sounds like you need more room with less effort time consuming hauling that up that cliff if I can find out the name of it I will read text this channel guys again all the best you saved avista view from human carelessness okay I found some six pack face cord tote bags company called Northern woodsman second one bulk bag (FIBC) circular duffle top and spout bottom I googled 1 ton capacity bags this should help tremendously for situation like this
Beautiful scenery and as much as I would love to have been there to enjoy in person, you would never have gotten me that close to the edge. Good of You, Jason and David to get rid of stupid peoples garbage.
Awesome splicing chops too Casey
Teamwork makin the dream work here Casey and Jason, proper planning and rigging and it'll happen. Central Oregon is in good hands.
I can't understand why people litter. In land so beautiful laziness or stupidity love the engineering of your trailer thanks for what you do
Thanks for cleaning up your land. Great job.
This is awesome, the broken window effect is definitely real and glad you all were able to recognize that you had what it takes to clean the area up before it became a much bigger job. It would have been a really good idea to have Jason wearing a climbing helmet/hard hat below cliff line like that but I imagine he stood fairly far back while the pulls were happening, just seen plenty of loose rock come off in my time as a climber. Seriously though great work, and cool set up with the gin pole!
Good job guys. I always try to leave the forest/beach/dunes/desert better than I find it!
Great job!, and what a view from the jobsite!
The state of Oregon owes y'all an honorable recognition.
Great job!! Thanks for all your hard work. From Michigan!!;
Did a great job I just never be scared of heights but this one here almost sold my pants watching it because I’m getting older I guess
Awesome, I'm impressed and educated with your engineering and geometry lesson on the gantry!
HOW COOL YOU HOOKED UP WITH JASON!!!.I have enjoyed his channel many times!! Wow!! You Guys ROCK!!!!.lol! THANK YOU 110% For Risking your Lives to clean up after STUPID PEOPLE!!! sorry, can't be nice to careless beings...smh. 😇🕊🤗💞👍💚💚💚💝
Casey I must say "You make taking out the trash fun"!
Great job guys.... people that trash a beautiful place like this should be fined and jailed...
Love what you do please keep up the awesome work I wish I could make it to your next clean up but unfortunately I live in Ohio and have to be home. I will try to make one of your clean ups as I am out on the road 4-6 weeks at a time because I am an over the road truck driver
Thanks for your cleanup.
Jason's right about age and caution around heights. I'm really old and really cautious near cliffs.
Catching up on your older videos!👍 😎 Wow! That drone shot in the beginning 😵💫 Beautiful but scary drop! Thank You for your efforts to help clean up our beautiful lands. ❤️Stay safe out there!🙏
Lawn tractor fishing. Lol
Thanks for cleaning up some one else’s stupidity.
That was so cool, the “crane” you fabricated is so awesome!!!
Nice work! I've rappelled down cliffs picking tufts of pink insulation from a camper off a hillside...tough work!
Think its suitable that your Trailer is named "Summit" Especially for this job...
Excellent work guys. We all appreciate you. Safety harness next time, y’all make me nervous.
