Very neat install! Truly looks factory.

This video is really helpful. I just installed the inverter into my class c motorhome. Everything works perfectly. Thank you so much! I just have one question. When I start the car engine, the 110 ac power stops working. I get the power back when I turn off the car engine. Is this normal?

Wow, thats a new one for me. There must be some interlock switch that turns the power off when your engine is on.. Maybe there is an additional transfer switch that cuts off power from the transfer switch you installed when the battery charger is receiving electricity from the Engine? Without seeing it, I can't be certain.. but it does sound like a transfer switch it shutting the power off. Good luck and let us know if you figure It out so others can learn from it!

If I have solar running to a charge controller, that then connects to my outlets throughout trailer…if I install an inverter that would be connected to battery for power, then splice in to outlet connections so it can power the outlets…would I need to worry about a transfer switch? Couldn’t I run inverter while solar keeps battery charged?

It Depends. If you hard wire the outlets to the inverter, then the only thing the inverter is powering is those outlets. But if you also use a generator, or plug into shore power, the transfer switch determines what power source to power the outlets from. If you are just adding dedicated outlets that only run off the inverter, then no need for a power switch. In this installation, We ended up with two transfer switches - so the whole rig would automatically be powered wherever the power came from, wether its the generator, shore power or the inverter. But if you just hook up outlets that are ONLY powered by the inverter, then you don't need a transfer switch. Hope that makes sense!

This was a good video, but could not finish it because the music was so distracting.😢

So, technically, the inverter is also activating the battery charger, causing a less than efficient loop. Is that correct? You'd end up with some inefficiency. I'm considering doing this anyway... Great video! I really appreciate it.

Correct. Since you are powering the whole electrical panel from the inverter, it is creating a loop. Therefore, we marked the breaker that powers the battery charger, and just flip the breaker off when the inverter is on. That way, you stop the circular loop. In another rig, I actually put an automatic switch that turned off the power to the battery charger when it detected power from the inverter.

@@JamesandPaulsRVAdventures AWESOME! You gave me a 'Duh' moment... Never thought of a breaker to kill the charge circuit. THANKS!!!!

You are welcome! If I find the link for the switch I used that automatically turned off the charger I will add it!

hey ever find link that shuts off power to battery charger which is the converter right great video

    • @JamesandPaulsRVAdventures

Yes, to shut off the power to the battery charger when the converter is on, we flip the breaker switch that powers the charger. It's a flip switch in the main power distribution box.

Nice. You didn't mention it, but I believe this also allows running air conditioning, true? That would be very valuable. And, many coffee brewers (Keurig, Nespresso, etc). Thanks!

Unfortunately, air conditioning units require a huge surge of power to start up, and most batteries can't provide that. There are 'soft starts' that you can add to your AC unit that will allow it to slowly start up with a battery bank. But, AC's use alot of power, and unless you have a big battery bank, it will use up the power quickly. However, Keurig's, microwaves and other appliances can easily be used with a battery bank and inverter.
