    Very unexpected from these guys. 1-4-5 blues based structure and the main riff is like a cross between Manic Depression and Whipping Post. Interesting lyric and melody flow. However, it’s still different enough to be awesome! Glad to see them still kicking it!

    Nice classic rock / blues band feel with good energy, unlike the last record Paul's guitar doesn't seem to have been hidden under a bunch of duvets it's clear and sounds fantastic same goes for the entire mix.

    With all due respect, we're in 2024, not the '70s! Where is the evolution, where is the creative boldness, where is the progress in sound?! Even with big names like Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert, their world-class musicianship can't save mediocre compositions and production...

      @ThalesPosella 7 месяцев назад

      In music there's room for everything, every taste. If you want to listen to music that is constantly evolving, every album is different, you can, there are plenty of bands out there following that path. If your thing is to keep listening to music that are more true to their roots, you also got it, as we can see here on this amazing new release by Mr Big. It's a matter of choice, you can also choose to enjoy and respect both worlds (that's where I usually find myself). But in my opinion, what you should try to avoid is to tell bands or musicians what they should or shouldn't do. Respectfully, just let them be and do their thing and then decide if you want to press play or not. Just saying...

    • @respiromedia
      @respiromedia 7 месяцев назад

      @@ThalesPosella Thanks for your comment in good spirit! Let's dive a little deeper. My comment is based on reasoned arguments. Let me give you two examples (two songs) of musical evolution:
      First, Extreme's "Rise", released a year ago. Extreme is a band formed back in 1985 (for context, Mr. Big was formed in 1988). Second, Nightwish's "Perfume Of The Timeless", released two days ago. Nightwish is a band formed in 1996. In both cases, we see a genuine interest in high-class composition and artistic messaging.
      I'm not a hater; I'm a musician looking for inspiration and fair treatment from the world-class artists we all respect. When you're at the level of Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert, the expectations are huge, and you need to live up to them.

    • @ThalesPosella
      @ThalesPosella 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@respiromedia Yes, I understand that there are amazing and refreshing new music being released by some "old" bands, and I myself loved the Six album by Extreme.
      But I think you touched some of the roots of this problem, in my view. I think the problem lies within the realm of "expectations". Lots of musicians few enormous pressure while recording subsequent albums because they feel they will have to deal with people "expecting them to live up with their own expectations", and honestly I think this is not good for the music world.
      I feel like this can go wrong in a couple of ways. Firstly, if the artist deviates too much from their "roots" or "last album", they will have to face a myriad of fans who will say stuff like "they changed too much" or they "are a sell out", "bla bla bla". On the other hand, if the artists stay too much true to their roots, there will be a bunch of people who will judge it as "not innovative" or say things like "where's the creative boldness?", like you did here.
      In my opinion this is not good, and it can make artists make decisions that are not all for the good of the art itself but will start to make practical decisions because they are afraid to lose their fan base and money along with it.
      The way I see it, this is totally avoidable... if only us (the fans) would just dial down the judge inside and just let the artist do what they feel like doing at that moment in time and try to respect it as much as we can, and if we are lucky, enjoy the content that they want to produce.

    • @ItsVictoriaG
      @ItsVictoriaG 7 месяцев назад

      Not everyone’s voice ages the same. Even great voices are known to change with age. Annie Lennox said she noticed when her voice changed at 50. Eric’s 63 and doesn’t have the range of a 30 year old kid anymore. It is what it is. At least they’re still together and able to play and create.

    • @toddrorick117
      @toddrorick117 7 месяцев назад

      @@ItsVictoriaG Well I’ve said similar stuff a million times so that’s obvious. Nobody expects an older guy to remain 20 forever. However if you’re going to put out music, people can comment. That’s all. And his voice was always a tad limited. But here it sounds rather shaky and tight. Yes happy they are still playing, but since when do you listen to music just because it’s been made? No shame on aging but…

    • @ItsVictoriaG
      @ItsVictoriaG 7 месяцев назад

      @@toddrorick117 Completely understand your point about wanting to hear a good product and not excusing someone for putting out a subpar product just because you like their previous work.
      I completely get it.
      I guess I’m too saccharine and sentimental because I think of all the singers I truly loved that totally lost their voice from not taking care of it before they died: Eddie Kendricks, Whitney Houston… at least Mr. Big is still here and capable of performing.
      I can listen to this track and appreciate it for what it is, and remember that Eric Martin himself said in a podcast interview, “the first four Mr. Big albums got my voice in its prime.” Even he’s fully aware of his limits. And he completely lost his voice for a couple weeks right after they recorded the album while they were touring the UK.
      (Also - Hall & Oates produced the record Ruffin & Kendrick shortly before Eddie Kendricks died. Eddie’s voice was practically gone. Gone, gone. Performing on one lung with lung cancer gone. but Darryl Hall is a post-production magician and somehow pulled something together on the song I Couldn’t Believe It. Hall should’ve gotten an award for that.)
      Not everyone’s voice ages like Smokey Robinson or Frankie Valli’s. I saw Smokey Robinson in February 2020 and he still has the same range and timbre as he did on his records. It defies the laws of aging and entropy. Felt very lucky to get to listen to Smokey at 80 years old and be in awe of his voice, just like the first time I heard him. It’s a rare magic.

The way the vocals is doing one thing and the whole band is doing the other thing, but then they got this horrible video. I would never wanna watch this more than once. I could watch Paul and Billy play all day. The appeal is there and watching their fingers.
